It’s rare for me to enjoy an untoasted bagel but the bagels here are high quality and totally delicious untoasted. I just had a sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese, and I’ve been dreaming of it for days. Next time I’m in Philly, I will be back.

Gotten plenty of amazing things here, sweet and savory 🥰 these cookies are a throwback to COVID. Essen’s Passover desserts have been a staple at our Seders, the babka and apple cake are common additions to a family party—when we can get them! 🍎🍏🥮 Love their iced tea, miss the early morning coffee//babka deal in the warm weather 🤭

I ordered from to good to go. I spent $40. I received a message that the pickup window changed. I raced to the bakery from Delaware, and arrived 8 minutes early. The employee rudely told me she threw out what I had purchased and that YOU people need to come earlier, I was early. The rudeness was unnecessary and left me feeling as if I didn’t belong in the store, although they already took my money. I’ll never return to that location. I’m also having trouble receiving a refund. FYI I arrived at the store at 3:22pm they close at 3:30pm.

Our friend bought us their chocolate babka years ago and it was our favorite ever since. We were so happy to be able to come to Philly and purchase from Essen ourselves. Unfortunately they were out of a lot of items at 1pm. We managed to get an everything bagel and a focaccia sandwich and the cinnamon hazelnut babka slice and an iced coffee. The coffee is alright. The cinnamon hazelnut babka is tasty but not as good as I had hoped. The bagel has a nice mixture of the everything toppings and seasoning. The onion focaccia sandwich was really salty. We were definitely disappointed with this day
We placed a preorder for the chocolate babka and a challah bread for pick up for Sunday. The challah bread reminds me of Chinese milk bread which is airy and light. The chocolate babka is amazing! It has a nice chocolate flavor and is not too sweet and it's so addicting. I really had to stop myself from eating half of the babka in one sitting. Overall, highly recommend the chocolate babka!

I love this place! The bagels are delicious, as well as the veggie cream cheese you can definitely taste that it’s house made. Their baked goods are also very good and not terribly sweet I decided to try the cinnamon bun today and was delighted but not surprised at how good it was. This place is definitely worth stopping by
Excellent za'atar croissant, very flakey and buttery. Cinnamon roll was just okay, but dry. Would go back for the flakey pastries.

The gentleman looked at me like I was crazy and got very frustrated…. “I would have to make a call!”
Wouldn't you just offer to make the call if a customer really wanted to know for safety? You didn’t have to be so rude!
