Went to the speakeasy in the basement a few years back and tried their GARLIC DILL STEAMED CLAMS.. and they were so so tasty!! So tasty that we ordered takeout of only this dish the last time we were in town.I cannot even explain how tasty they are. You just need to try them for yourself!

This was our second time eating here. The first was great and that brought us back for the second but today was a bit disappointing. It was a busy day in town and there didnt seem to be enough staff to accommodate the rush that the weekend brought. We waited a very long time for service and food. The wait staff who were on tried hard but there just wasnt enough help forom ythe wait staff to the kitchen. The kitchen was also out of a lot of food! Not ideal when you are bringing new clientele into the restaurant.

Stopped in today as visiting the area. Menu looked good. Server came up to us after a bit of a wait explaining she was called in early. It's a holiday weekend and they had 2 servers, 1 bartender and 1 chef. The place was packed and obviously slow service and they were out of like 10 menu items including all pizza and cod. The server was lovely and while it took a bit of time, everything came out of the bar and kitchen was great. Food was tasty, drinks were great and despite all the staff being in the weeds it was a pleasant experience albeit slow. Apparently they got slammed for winterfest the day before and they didn't manage and expectations for today/. But those 4 woman were fantastic!!!! Do better owner and managers!!

I'm conflicted. $5 for a side order of French fries that was smaller than $1 fries at a fast food joint. I mean it was literally 10 crinkle cut fries in the portion. Then I ordered the Thai peanut wrap. It tasted great. But again... $15 and no side with it? I was still hungry... ordered a chicken parm pizza 12" which was $17 but it will feed 2 people so that wasn't too bad. My lady ordered flatbread chicken bruschetta which was $14 also and it was the size of a 6" pita. I mean along with 3 sodas they bill was $65 or so. Had a gone to the pizza shop next door. That same mean would've been $35 and I would got man size portions. Food was flavorful but I low fr hungry.

Great bar with really tasty food. Beer Selection is on point. They had a jazz group playing some really great tunes to set the mood. The bar tender was super nice and personable. Only issue we had was the server really seemed flustered. Wasn't a busy night but when we were halfway done our apps he came and just took the plates with food still on them that we were still eating. Then when he brought our entrees asked if we wanted the check. We would have had another drink or two at the table. Instead, closed our bill and grabbed a beer at the bar.

Stopped in Newberry's for lunch and a pint or two of craft beer with my wife. The inside is set up nicely - large bar up front and booth seating in the back, but for some reason we were pretty much the only patrons inside. There were some people who came in and left without taking a seat which I thought was odd. The music playing inside was extremely loud. The bartender was very nice and friendly, she recommended items off of the food menu and tap list. They advertise 32 craft beers on tap, but to me the list was a bit underwhelming. Mostly IPA's and none that were screaming out drink me. I settled for a couple Zero Gravity Duck Duck Juice and the wife had the Funk Pumpkin Ale. The food menu looked really good, we ordered the crab dip to start - Newburgh style alfredo dip loaded with jumbo lump crab served with mini naan bread $14 - The naan breads were tasty and the dip itself did indeed contain jumbo lump crab meat. We both enjoyed the appetizer. I ordered a Guinness BBQ Burger - topped with our house made Guinness BBQ sauce, an onion ring and cheddar cheese - $16 .... The burger looked fantastic, but sadly after a couple of bites I discovered a hair inside of the burger. It was sitting right inside of the meat so it probably happened when the patty was made. I wanted to throw up, but luckily it was in a portion of the burger that I hadn't bitten into. The bartender saw the hair, and asked me if I would like another or something else off of the menu. I wanted to say no, but I did end up going with a BBQ Chicken Pizza - Guinness BBQ, diced chicken breast, cider-smoked bacon and cheddar cheese. Finished with a drizzle of ranch dressing. I tried a couple of slices and found it to be hairless and pretty good. My wife had Fish & Chips - A giant portion of hand battered Alaskan cod served with French fries, tartar sauce, lemon wedge and malt vinegar $22. She reported no hair and enjoyed the fish very much. I think the prices are a tad high for the quantity of food received. The beer offering is substandard for a place that calls itself a Yard of Ale. They should consider lowering their sound system too. People want to be able to hear each other talk. The hair was repulsive, but I'm sure that's an accident and not a reflection of the overall business. The foundation is there for an awesome place, nice staff, great looking building and good looking pub grub, but they just missed the mark badly on our visit and the lack of people inside on a weekend for lunch was a bit eye opening.

We happened to be in the area & Newberry's was a delight. It was pouring out, so it wasn't very crowded at all. Service was good, food was delicious. Hubby & son in law had burgers & raved about them. I had the chicken with roasted peppers & spinach in a ciabatta roll. It was very large, I couldn't finish it but it was so good. Daughter had the flatbread, didn't love it but it wasn't inedible. Fries & chips that came with the sandwiches were very tasty. I would return again when back in the area

I’m going to start this off by saying two stars is a little harsh - the food was decent. Not great, but decent. The service however, at no fault of the TWO servers (one being the bartender) in a rather large pub in a busy “tourist” area on a Saturday afternoon, was frustrating. Upon arrival on a whim after checking out the posted menu, we waited for a bit without being greeted or acknowledged by staff who were clearly working hard to serve those already seated at a table or the bar. In fact, the lone floor server was being asked by the bartender to try and call more staff in as they were barely treading water. We almost ended up turning right back around but as we were making the decision, the friendly server ushered us to a table. Our drink order was taken pretty quickly and those of us that ordered beer received our drinks within a reasonable amount of time. The poor soul that ordered a root beer waited almost 15 minutes before we finally went to the bar to get the soda. We also had to ask for water a few times before it finally made its way to our table. We ordered our food, subbing fries for the chips that came with our meals, and the food arrived again within a reasonable amount of time. When we started eating, we realized quickly that a few of the specifications we had asked for (just two omissions in two sandwiches) were incorrect but given the state of the place we didn’t say anything and just dealt with it. The entrees themselves were decent as stated above but surprisingly bland - no salt, pepper, or much of anything on the proteins, and very meager portions of fries/chips to accompany them. When the bill came we were surprised to see we were charged full price for subbing fries for chips, a full $5 extra on top of the price of each entree. Note - they boast a “32 craft beer!” selection while actually maintaining a list of about 17-20. Overall, this was unfortunately not a great experience though again I have to say that our servers truly seemed to be doing their best in a situation that should have been foreseen by management. In summary, you’re looking at high prices for meager portions of “just okay” food. In the end, I would say you might be better off checking out one of the many other pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Let me preface this by saying this was not my first time at the Yard of Ale. When my husband and I lived in the area, we used to frequent this restaurant and never had a bad experience….. so perhaps this time was just an odd time.HOWEVER, that being said… this was some of the worst service I’ve had in a while. We had a show to get to at the Sherman for 8PM and figured reservations for 6:20 would be fine as the Sherman is within walking distance….. we showed up early around 6:10 and were able to be seated immediately. (Me and a couple of our friends, my husband was running late). We were thinking we could order the drinks and apps before my husband would get there. We ordered the drinks within about 10 minutes, THEN did not receive the drinks until after 6:45. I could see our drinks sitting at the bar. It was NOT busy…..they did not ask if we wanted to order food upon delivering our drinks but then got my husband a drink which took another 15 min.At which point we finally were able to order our food as we made it clear we needed to…..From that point on, my we had to ask for boxes ect and got maybe one refill on our drinks. It was terrible. Luckily we were just able to make our show.I’m hoping this experience was an anomaly as I love the yard of ale. However I probably will not be back anytime soon. We live out of the area now, and only come in for shows at the Sherman,,,, so if I am in town I will most likely be looking at other restaurants.
