My husband and I grab a quick beer at Great Northern a couple of Fridays each month - right before daycare pick up. Kitty is typically working, who is a total gem and takes great care of us. This past weekend, we threw an adult birthday party at GN BBQ and many adults in our lives have kids, so kids were there, too. It was a total blast and pure chaos - the GN team was extremely patient and made us feel at home in one of the best neighborhood spots around. Huge thanks to Hannah, Adam, Meg, and the whole crew.

Subpar BBQ, brisket was bland and dry. Pickles tasted like citronella candles, and the potato salad was overly salty and mostly flavorless outside of the 6 pounds of dill they put in it. Cornbread was fire though.

Ive ate here twice , the place is small but i love the ambience. The owner was very nice as well. So with that said , the food has its up and downs . The meat sometimes can taste a lil bit chemically ... like gas ..too much Liquid smoke maybe ? Idk what it is but it ruins the experience and leaves you with a bad aftertaste and the bbq sauce is horrid lol sorry ☹️ should definitely get a new bbq sauce recipe.. Cornbread was moist and soft, loved it. the mash was a little different .. I liked it but didn't care too much for the type of gravy that was on it .. the Mac and cheese is also different but very good, I believe it's vegan which explains the different taste but no complaints there . I hate cold slaw but I do enjoy the one here! It's not drenched in sauce like other places and still has a good bite to it . But the star of everything was the potato salad ! I could eat a big old bowl of JUST the potato salad and be happy ? it's that good . (Its literally the reason i came back for the 2nd time) . A couple adjustments with that bad aftertaste of the meat and I would be a lifelong customer

Brisket was delicious. Potato wedges with beer cheese are a great combo. Recommend an appetizer combing brisket, wedges and bechamel beer

Came here for the first time and loved it. They were participating in RI Foodfights Lord of the Wings challenge. We started with the wings, which were very tasty. The hot wings had just enough heat with some great flavor. For dinner I had the brisket plate, which was melt in your mouth delicious. It's a small place, so I would recommend reservations on weekends. We will definitely be back.

I can’t believe I spent $4 on one measly piece of cornbread.I also personally really disliked the wing sauces buffa-Q (tasted like jelly, didn’t have heat to me) and tangy (tasted really mustard forward which I wasn’t expecting). Our waitress was really nice though, and the atmosphere was cool.

We were watching Phantom Gourmet on Saturday morning and there was mention of BBQ, but nothing near our location. So, we searched very little and found this restaurant only 25 minutes away, not far off of Atwell's. As the homepage came up, along too was a pop-up announcing they are looking for help. So, right there we make a judgement call and opt for takeout, rather than risk a slow or problematic table seating. The menu was extensive; easy to find a good sampler of their offerings. We ordered the medium platter along with sides of brussel sprouts, pickles, extra coleslaw and double cornbread. After first entering this order online, selecting no specific time - just ready as soon as... it would not accept the order, demanding that we try again by restarting and selecting a different date/time. We then selected an hour in the future, selected all the menu items once more and the order was accepted. We drove down during a flash snowstorm that left the roads in bad condition. But still, we arrived at the selected time - 6pm - and went in to pick up the order. Not ready. They had a very large order that came in at the counter and were just finishing it up. So, we waited about 20 minutes to get the bag of goodies and head home to chow down. It was all packed up and stapled shut, so I did take a moment to open the bag for a peak, just to count items. Each of the meats and poultry were cooked perfectly and thankfully, none were "over-sauced". This allowed us to really taste it and then add something if desired. The regular pork ribs were decent but we'll try the baby-backs next time. The wings were great, if a tad dry, but again, could add sauce. The sausage was just right, as was the pulled pork - delicious. The brussel sprouts were outstanding in that they tasted more like a dessert. Coleslaw was spot-on and a great way to set expectations for any bbq restaurant. Cornbread was good, with a little drizzle of sweet on each piece. The highest rated item was... pickles! Very yummy, tangy, spicy and juicy. There was plenty for two meals so we expect to enjoy it again, likely tomorrow night. The interior is tiny with not many tables and about 6 stools at the bar. But it looks like they have an outdoor seating area for the warmer months. It was cold inside (very cold outside at 15F), so we were happy to not have chosen to eat-in. Several diners opted to keep coats and even hats on during their meals. If you have not yet been, its definitely worth a visit. If they are still looking for help, give them plenty of time. :-)

The wings were absolutely delicious…and that’s where it ended. We both got brisket plates afterwards, and they left so much to be desired. Brisket was cooked well but had no flavor. The Mac and cheese was macaroni that someone whispered “cheese” onto, and the cornbread was so dry I couldn’t finish it. The vibes were weird, it was pretty empty for a Friday night, and I don’t think I would return.

Good bbq in Providence at a fair price. St. Louis ribs are perfectly cooked/smoked, which makes for a great bite. The house bbq sauce (likeable to a soy demi-glace) was very good and stood out as unique. Pulled pork, cornbread, and slaw were all slightly above average. Only critique is that the wings were significantly over-salted.
