This is one popular spot, and justifiably so! During what I thought was an "off-time;" 2pm on a Saturday, we waited an hour for our table. Once seated the intimacy and relaxed pace of the restaurant offered an explanation. Our server was very enthusiastic and friendly, but our food was not quick to the table. Because we were starving at this point, we ordered fried shrimp and chicken wings I liked the house hot sauce that came with the chicken wings so I set it aside for the catfish I'd ordered as an entree. The entrees were AMAZING, soul food for days! I ordered the catfish, and it was hands down the best catfish I've ever had. It was light, crisp, and flaky and fried to perfection, not even slightly fishy (if you've had bad catfish you know what I'm talking about--and it was not that). The candied yams were dessert sweet and the mac-n-cheese was savory and delicious, topped with crispy bread crumbs. Others in my party had the ribs and fried chicken with greens, the bites I had of these were super yummy. And I like that you have the choice between light or dark meat with the chicken entree. We sat right next to the cake display while we engorged ourselves, so we compromised and took a piece of chocolate to go. The cake was moist and decadent, and had a hint of hot cocoa. The restaurant itself was very welcoming, reminiscent of being in a family members home. I really enjoyed my meal here. TL;DR apps meh, entrees excellent, you must get some cake!, worth the LONG wait
This is our first time visiting Richmond and we decided to try the this restaurant. Let me start by saying the bartender was excellent his customer service was on point, however the food we ordered for takeout was terrible. We got back to our hotel to discover the chicken was not done. It was burnt on the outside and pink on the inside. The Mac n cheese had no seasoning, the yams was undercooked and had way to much cinnamon. My husband spare ribs appeared to be boiled, not smoked or grilled the greens were undercooked with no seasoning. The catfish was the only thing that was decent in taste. I love soul food however this place is not it. I would recommend the liquor and not the food. We were very disappointed.
This restaurant was hands-down the best restaurant I have eaten at in Virginia. Not only was every item they served on point in quality and quantity (from appetizer to dessert), but the customer service was so wonderful. They play awesome throwback music to keep the mood fun and their speed in getting your order out to you is great. Also, their servers are very friendly. Shoutout to Jamal who served my boyfriend and I last evening and did the best job in customer service. The only downer to Mama J's is you may be waiting a bit for a table on their busy evenings because they're so popular, but it's SUPER worth the wait. My boyfriend and I had the best night thanks to Mama J's food and service.
The food and our server was amazing. The amount of time we had to wait to be seated not so much. We waited for over an hour then we had to wait almost another 45 mins for our food because there was a mistake made in the kitchen. Once we were inside I realized why the wait is so long the place is really small. I'd def eat there next time I'm in Richmond but I will just order to go. The prices were good and the portions were good also. Best catfish I've ever had.
Wonderful establishment located in the Jackson Ward area. Good food, warm friendly environment and nice setting. My only complaint is the seating in this restaurant makes you feel cramped. I don't like having someone right next to me while I'm eating. 😲 Other than that this place is awesome.

Fighting Fish is an amazing poke and sushi restaurant. If you want delicious fresh fish, eat here. I love sushi, and this place is simple and amazing (the way the best sushi should be).
The best sushi/sashimi in Richmond! Incredibly fresh fish. If you like poke or sashimi, you must go here!
Great quiet place with excellent service and a compact, but delicious menu!

Food was fantastic. Decor could be better. We both walked in and we're unimpressed by the atmosphere but the food was great. I had the pork chop which was delicious. Hubs felt it had too much cinnamon but I liked it. He had the BBQ chicken which was very tender and tasty. I'd definitely go back.
First timer! I had no idea what to expect at Pasture. I went during lunch around 11:45am with a large group. They were not really crowded, but I've been past there before when it was more crowded. We had the chips/dip and the pimento cheese/crackers appetizers. I didn't try the pimento, but the dip was really good. I had a barbecue sandwich and fries. Didn't come out hot, but I'm guessing that was due to the 10-person group. Great portion size and it seems pretty much everyone was pleased with their food. I would go back again.
Modest menu with wonderful options. Great wine list. Always friendly staff. Farm to table goodness.
Food is tasty, a little higher on the price for the portion. Their service is very good and interior decor looks very good. Will go again.
Amazing specials with fresh ingredients, great drinks and frequently updated craft beer selection. Pimento cheese is highly recommended!

This is one of the finest restaurants i have ever visited. I was there eith a party of seventeen and the restaurant was crowded. The service was incredible as if we were the only patrons. But even more amazing was the food. Each course of the meal was better than the previous course. It is worth a trip to Richmond just to go to this restaurant. Just INCREDIBLE ! GIVE IT 10 STARS.
Amazing atmosphere, great service, absolutely divine food.
Thanks to Chef Antonio Capece, it's the best food and service I've had for a long time. If you want to treat yourself or someone else (family, friends and clients), this is the place to go. Chef's wife Andrea is brilliant! She knows how to run the front of the house and makes everyone happy they came. They make everyone feel special. I had already made plans to eat at this restaurant for dinner and ran into my friend, who had eaten there for lunch. She said that the food was wonderful, affordable and the atmosphere was delightful. She was absolutely right! I don't like to go out to eat because my husband is a fabulous cook. The food never seems as good when I go out. However, both my husband and I enjoyed the food at the restaurant when we were in Richmond on a conference. I also don't like to go out to eat because I don't like the atmosphere, have to wait on the wait staff or am interrupted by waitstaff while in deep conversation to inquire how the food is. Nothing kills an intimate moment, like a third party injecting themselves. I didn't experience this here. Other restaurants can learn from them. If the waitstaff is present/ attentive, they don't have to interrupt to ask if everything is ok. It is in the Hilton building diagonal from the Richmond Convention Center. As more people learn about this restaurant, there will be a wait list for months. Many thanks for a wonderful time
We visited during restaurant week and they were very accommodating with gluten free pasta.
Creamy, for the expense. Excellent Old Fashioned and good seevice. Calamari-polpo (octopus) salad, bland, more marinating and or spices needed, while the cozze-mussels were excellent - sop up every drop. Their olive oil was sharp and bitter vs. Buttery and full, smooth. It was perfect that they brought a plate with fresh parm, sea salt and freshly ground pepper for dipping as requested. Fish and veal were as good as the pasta. Salmon may have been better than the fresh Halibut.

Love this place! Great food and great staff. Make sure you get the Oysters Rockefeller and the summer punch. Amazing atmosphere!
Great place for lunch. Blue fish melt was outstanding.
Great night of great food.... highly recommend .... Take it all in and enjoy!!!!!
Went for brunch . The "open face sandwhich" and French toast was great
My favorite happy hour in Richmond. Cheap oysters and cheap beer from Virginia's best oyster farmers.
