“Tonight was just our latest amazing dinner at Blue Atlas! It was Vegan Takeover night and we tried every dish but one … as usual, the flavors were anything but boring. They were bold and surprising and our two non-vegan guests ate every last morsel and then some. The non-vegan nights are equally as extraordinary! Friendly, professional staff (Bas was out server tonight and he was great!) and just a fabulous experience!!! I love the fact that the head chef is a woman (as an aside)!”

“Having been a server for almost 10 years, it is very difficult for me to be blown away by service I recieve while dining. Susan absolutely put it down! Not only was she completely on point with timing of everything- drink almost done? She's there asking if you're ready for another. Just finished your last bite of bread? Here she comes with more for the table- but she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the menu, helping guide you through the flavors present and explaining not only what features in a dish, but how it will taste and feel. I CANNOT say enough about how professional and amazing she was. Then, not only was the service top-notch, but every single bite of every dish absolutely DELIEVERED! We ordered the venison carpaccio, and Susan was able to describe all the sauces and flavors on the dish, so we were able to try the venison with each, knowing it would tweak the overall flavor in different ways. It came highly recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. I got the waygu stuffed quail for my entree and my husband got the sea scallops catch of the day, and the portions were amazing for both- giant scallops, a half a quail that perfectly filled me up, along with amazing waygu cheek stuffed in the quail. Not only were the proteins perfectly cooked and flavored, but even the sides to each dish complemented the proteins beautifully and were DELICIOUS. Not a single thing could I or would I want to change. 100% worth every penny spent for an amazing date night, and we will absolutely book another reservation to return!Parking: Go early to ensure you can find parking, or catch an Uber or Lyft”

“We had a great evening at Penny's Wine Shop - we enjoyed the full flight of featured wines by the glass and paired them with several of the shared plate selections. Oyster mushrooms conserva and potato dauphinoise were our top favorites with the Bolet Cava and Patience Blanc white blend, but everything we tasted was delicious – oh that Basque cheesecake! This is definitely on the list to return to as their menu and wines change on a regular basis so always something new to try! We posted more love & pics @richpairings”

“Dinner at Alewife was the highlight of our five-day visit to Richmond. First off, it was a relief to get out of downtown Richmond with its huge empty parking lots, boarded up storefronts and deserted streets. The historic Church Hill section, with its 19th century row and other houses and interesting looking restaurants and shops, was such a pleasant change. Parking near Alewife was a bit of a challenge, but we quickly found a spot just a block away.The restaurant itself has a fascinating vibe, part friendly neighborhood spot and part disarmingly upmarket dining room. You just knew the food would be interesting, and it was. We started with a gin and tonic and a non-alcoholic beer. The menu is fairly short and apparently changes nightly, or at least frequently.I would never in this world think that I would enjoy an appetizer of raw oysters, bright green pickle juice, creme fraiche and fresh dill. But it was an amazing flavor combination. My partner's appetizer was equally interesting -- lox on thick, toasted rustic bread.As mains, we had the arctic char, with grilled carrots, and the skate, both perfectly prepared and delicious. Service throughout the meal was just right -- friendly, attentive but not overly so. Our charge for two, including tip, was around $150, well worth the price. Thank you for a great meal experience!”

Atmosphere, character and ambiance of the bar and dining room were old-school comfortable and welcoming.Dinner included wedge salad and seared tuna, Arugula salad and simply prepared blackened salmon. Prepared properly, served with a family side of potatoes. Delicious.Service continued their appropriate attention throughout the meal, dessert, and closing out.Not to be passed up if visiting Richmond.”

“I spent New Years Eve here and while the space was amazing, the planning and execution of the event was not. We paid extra for a VIP experience - the food was FANTASTIC! Probably the best thing of the night! The evening included a 90s dress contest, a 90s band and midnight champagne toast....Well, the contest winner was not even announced nor was added to their Instagram - there were 4 pictures posted out of everyone dressed up. Up in the VIP room, there was NO count down or anything - it was 2024 and we didn't even realize it - so much for our special midnight toast in the VIP Lounge! While I didn't know one song the band played, I was assured they were 90s songs. the advertisements should have said ONE STYLE of 90s music.. this event can be great....Just needs some work to it ... especially when people are paying extra!”

“We came here for happy hour and I could taste that they used a good tequila in the margarita it was so good. I was going to get the firecracker shrimp but they had some Reuben sandwiches left from Saint Patties Day so we both had them and we weren’t disappointed! It came on marbled bread and the corned beef was sweet and tender with no gristle. Shout out to Brendan and DeAndre for excellent service! It was my BFF’s birthday dinner and they sent over a yummy chocolate cake for her. Thank you. Also, shout out to the chef as she really knows how to cook corned beef — it really was delectable.Edited to add that the beet tower with goat cheese was awesome!”

“I'm honestly surprised I haven't reviewed this place before. In my humble opinion, this is the best French restaurant in the whole city. The staff are impeccably kind and attentive, the food selection is great, and the drinks are to die for. The staff treats you like family, and it really makes for an inviting time. “Our first time coming in here and I must say I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed. For our appetizer we had the southern egg rolls which were delicious, but the fact that 1 order is just 1 egg roll cut in half for 8 dollars in my opinion is a bit much, so we ordered 2. Next the mains, my wife ordered the baked chicken with Mac and cheese and cabbage, the baked chicken was very juicy but over seasoned, the Mac and cheese was decent but that cabbage was just way to sweet for our liking. Myself I ordered the shrimp and grits w/ bacon. Flavor wise I thought it was perfect but when I asked the hostess was it supposed to be that cold she picked up the plate and said "well the bottom of the plate is warm". Not trying to make a big stink out of it I asked her to simply put it in the microwave, she came back with a fresh order but now forgot my bacon smh, once I asked my waiter for my bacon, another server stood off to the side analyzing my plate like I'm gonna lie over bacon. All in all I would recommend that if you haven't tried it yet please do so. Picture of shrimp and grits was the first order before i asked for another”
“I very much enjoyed the experience at Uliveto. The service and ambience were warm and inviting. As for the food, I enjoyed the olive bread and octopus special. Though I would have preferred the olive bread served warm. They reminded me of my many culinary experiences in Europe. However the portion and presentation when it came to the flounder entree was poor. The portion size was much too large and the presentation needed work. I thought the fish was cooked well. I think this restaurant has the opportunity to become a staple in the community. My hope is the menu options are decreased by half or more. A focus on a few dishes that are executed on well in taste, portion, and appearance would not only help customers avoid decision fatigue when choosing their meal, but would ensure consistent quality of food. Having a smaller menu would also help keep costs down by helping the restaurant have less food inventory which should ensure ingredients are consistently fresh. I would also consider having a separate wine bottle menu that is offered on request, while shifting wine by the glass to the cocktail menu.”

“I ate here with a good friend of mine and the atmosphere was very nice, we got a wonderful booth next to the window and they work on a reservation system so heads up on that! The food overall was pretty good, my friend is a big fan of their broccoli but for me nothing stood out to me. Its a very Richmond hipster restaurant with taking elements from different cultures but with their own twist. The dessert however was great and the staff is wonderful so it makes me sad to see disrespectful costumers.”

“We google searched "restaurants near me" while we were in Richmond. The results displayed a long list of restaurants and after reviewing several we found Elegant Cuizines and I knew this was the perfect spot. We made a reservation for 8:30pm But we were running late so we call the restaurant and they assured it wouldn't be an issue. When we arrived we were greeted by Charles and seated by the waitress. The menu host a variety of foods that is dairy, free and gluten-free food. The food was beautifully plated and was to die for. Chef Theresa is making art in plate form. The ambiance was amazand the service was incredible. Elegant Cuizines can get my money any day. Charles and Theresa, thank you for making our night special, and we will be back soon”

The chocolate almond croissant from Sub Rosa is the best one I've ever had..period. Also, the ham and cheese croissant and the tart was incredible. We heard about how fast they sell out so we ordered a few days ahead of our trip. I'd recommend doing the same if you want to guarantee you'll get what you want. Seriously, if you find yourself down here, plan to make a stop, you will not be disappointed.”

“My partner is a vegetarian and I prefer to avoid meat where I can, so we're always on the lookout for spots that cater to the veggie crowd more than just having one or two vegetarian options that are lackluster in comparison to the rest of the menu.And this place was absolutely perfect; at no point did we feel like the quality or flavour was sacrificed in the process of making the meal vegetarian or vegan. I got the "chicken" salad sandwich (on a gluten free wrap) with a side of butternut squash soup, and my partner got the Gyro sandwich with a side of potato salad; we were both more than satisfied. The gluten free wrap was also very tasty in its own right and not too dry or crumbly.We're definitely going to be coming back sometime soon, but I'll have to really push myself to try something new instead of getting that amazing chicken salad wrap again; it was just that good.Dietary restrictions: Has gluten free wraps available for the sandwiches in place of the bread; and the wraps are pretty good too!”

For our appetizer we had the southern egg rolls which were delicious, but the fact that 1 order is just 1 egg roll cut in half for 8 dollars in my opinion is a bit much, so we ordered 2. Next the mains, my wife ordered the baked chicken with Mac and cheese and cabbage, the baked chicken was very juicy but over seasoned, the Mac and cheese was decent but that cabbage was just way to sweet for our liking. Myself I ordered the shrimp and grits w/ bacon. Flavor wise I thought it was perfect but when I asked the hostess was it supposed to be that cold she picked up the plate and said "well the bottom of the plate is warm". Not trying to make a big stink out of it I asked her to simply put it in the microwave, she came back with a fresh order but now forgot my bacon smh, once I asked my waiter for my bacon, another server stood off to the side analyzing my plate like I'm gonna lie over bacon. A few minutes later, the owner, Tysean, opened the door and offered to go back in the kitchen and cook something for us. We couldn’t pass that offer up. We waited for a few minutes, and he brought us out some of the best chicken I’ve eaten in a long time along with some, nicely seasoned potato wedges and hot buttery honey biscuits. Along with some honey mustard dipping sauce and sweet tea to wash it all down, we had an amazing meal. I’ll definitely be back, and you should visit if you are in Richmond.”

However the portion and presentation when it came to the flounder entree was poor. The portion size was much too large and the presentation needed work. I thought the fish was cooked well. I think this restaurant has the opportunity to become a staple in the community. My hope is the menu options are decreased by half or more. A focus on a few dishes that are executed on well in taste, portion, and appearance would not only help customers avoid decision fatigue when choosing their meal, but would ensure consistent quality of food. Having a smaller menu would also help keep costs down by helping the restaurant have less food inventory which should ensure ingredients are consistently fresh. I would also consider having a separate wine bottle menu that is offered on request, while shifting wine by the glass to the cocktail menu.”

I ordered the Pappardelle with Sausage Ragu and instead of the salad I had the Pancetta and onion soup! The consistency, the flavor, the temperature of the soup, all perfect! The sauce to pasta ratio was spot on!! For dessert we had the limoncello marscapone cake and yall… the freshest, most moist slice of cake I’ve ever had! Sure enough, the food was nothing short of spectacular. The gumbo was packed with spices and amazing flavor. The fried shrimp was next level—so crunchy yet so meaty and juicy on the inside. Tucked away in a nondescript building in Bellevue, this cozy, welcoming restaurant offers incredibly delightful Italian dishes and a robust wine list. I was DD but I heard great things about the Moscato wine. We ordered the robiola cheese to start, which came with their super lovely homemade bread. We needed a second helping of that. Even the olive oil was clearly high quality. For my meal, I opted for the crespelle pasta special, which was basically like a pasta crepe with spinach, bechamel, and cheese with marinara. It was so good and not sickeningly filling, which was an added plus. It let me save room for their lemon mascarpone cake for dessert! Service was prompt and friendly. I was glad we were able to score a table on a rainy Wednesday evening. For busier times, I'd definitely book a reservation.”

“Had a great family dinner at the HotSpot 757. It was a very diffirent and unique way to spend a special night. The restaurant offers two ways to cook your food. One is using a hot plate to boil soup that you add a variety of different meats, vegetables and dumplings. The type of soup I ordered was Chinese Szechuan. Although it tasted awesome it was really hot. I’ve been eating Szechuan for years and never experienced a hot version like this one. You can also cook raw meat to you choosing on the center piece table grill. I ordered the spicy pork and beef and both were delicious. There is also fresh fruit and different sauces located in the center of the restaurant for you to enjoy.”

She encouraged us to relax and go at our own pace and asked us to let her know when we were ready to order since she did not want to keep interrupting us. A couple of happy hour beers in we ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer, shrimp and grits entree, and the meatloaf entree. The beer was nice and cold, the food was absolutely amazing. The appetizer arrived long enough before the entree for us to enjoy it. The entrees were generous enough that we both brought home leftovers and mine became my husband’s dinner. However, as a kosher traveler I was really happy to find this place (the only kosher restaurant in the area). The service was really good, the server was super nice and attentive. I had a Caesar salad with grilled salmon and it was very good. This place was just what I needed after living off of snacks for the better part of a week without access to a kosher restaurant. There’s also a chance some item might come out that isn’t right or to your liking, and you might want to ask for something else.There are other upscale French restaurants nearby open with even higher reviews, but feel free to give Can Can a try. Unlike the others, Can Can is easier to get into and isn’t just open for dinner.The French cafe atmosphere and decor with white tiles and authentic cold solid aluminum bar surface (a reclaimed antique I think?) is pretty cool. It’s conveniently? located in Carytown, though you sometimes have to look for parking.The place is noisy and hard to hear when busy, due to the antique Richmond tin ceiling tiles and high airy ceiling.The lunch menu is fairly different than the dinner menu. We prefer the latter. In the afternoon between lunch and dinner they say they’re open but the menu is more limited.We’ve never liked their grilled/seared fish over the years. It can be overcooked, lacking in flavor, or sometimes fishy. We avoid it.Their frites / fries are delicious and huge servings. Be aware they don’t have A1 steak sauce or anything similar.The bread they serve is great. Our dinner didn’t come with bread and butter last time. Also great are their baked goods (croissants etc.) and Lavazza coffee drinks sold at the bar. (Try the cold brewed, it’s smooth like chocolate milk.) If you get there after 3pm or 4pm they might sell you the day’s pastries at deep discounts.The desserts aren’t cheap ($10-$14) but they’re good. Check out the ice cream. Today’s flavors included brandy date, which suggests the ice cream may be artisan and/or specially made in house or local.The steak tartare appetizer was quite good and again a HUGE serving for the price. It wasn’t ground or flat cutlets but large cube chunks. It tasted like rare beef (roast beef, steak or burger) with light caper flavor.I didn’t care for the small raw clams which were tender and priced at just $6 for 6 but tasted like ocean water. Maybe that’s just me.Something was wrong with the iced tea they served us. It was bitter and muddy in color — you couldn’t see through it at all. Surprising that would happen in an upscale place, but we sent it back and got something else. Not a huge deal.”

“I was excited to see the Canes on Arthur Ashe Blvd.. Definitely a different type of fast food in the area. I just went through the drive thru and my order was taken swiftly. The young woman who took my order was friendly. The ambiance of pulling into the drive thru was a little cramped. It is understandable though because of the location. I wish it had more than one entrance and exit. As you try and exit you block those coming in. The combo I got was good. I live the cane sauce it really set off the chicken. Good experience I'll return and go inside to eat .”
