The bread pudding was disappointing. It was such a phenomenal meal it was a bit of a let down. Really wish it was better. The food was so so good they are super friendly the owner is attentive and sincere, the place was slay, but that bread pudding... wow so bad. So very bad. Find your mommas cookbook she wouldnt have made that. Best wish thanks for the fried shrimp, crab, and sweet potato souffle. Extra points for the yummy bath salts in the restroom.

Had a fish sandwich. Collard greens, slaw, fried oysters, and calamari. Outstanding. Collards off the chart. Service even better. 15/10 recommend.
Everything was top-notch. I definitely will return.

We had a very good meal tonight. Cocktails were great. We had the broiled seafood platter and the shrimp and grits. Both were perfect cooked and seasoned. My question is why serve French fries with an upper end seafood meal?

Delicious seafood options and awesome $5 seasonal martinis. Shrimp Basil Burger with remoulade sauce was outstanding! Fried green tomatoes, oysters casino also notable options. Service impeccable. We will definitely return!
Edit: I did try it twice! The second time was on a weekday and wow the difference!! You can really tell the attention to detail and quality in the food. Much better experience when it's not overly busy.
Hanks is a restaurant I want to try twice to really give my opinion. The staff was phenomenal. Very friendly, personal, funny, knowledgeable. The waiter gave great recommendations and explained the menu. Definitely try the crab cakes!!!! The shecrab soup was highly recommended as well. I had gotten salmon, it was good but not the best I've ever had. I also tasted the grouper and was a little disappointed in the lack of flavor. Other dishes peaked my interest that I'd like to try. But the dishes I did try weren't worth the price in my opinion.
This restaurant is very loud at dinner time. Not a good place for a quiet meal to share conversation. Definitely recommend making reservations in advance.

Decor blends historic beauty with elegant coastal accents
My husband and I always try to hit Hanks for dinner while in town. This time didn't disappoint just as expected. We had Sean as our waiter, we've had Sean before and as always, he guided us through a few wine and dinner options. I had the grouper and my husband had the flounder entree's. Both were magical, paired perfectly with our wine. We finished the night off with a shared order of creme brûlée and it was perfect. Food, service and atmosphere were all perfect!

There are four things a good high-end restaurant must have to be successful: atmosphere, service, food and price point. Hanks had wonderful atmosphere, excellent service however the quality of food that my wife and I has was way below the quality we expected from a high end restaurant.
I ordered the Bouillabaisse which is a French seafood stew usually consisting of a soupy base in which various forms of seafood are incorporated. Hank's Bouillabaisse, which, incidentally was one of the most expensive items on the menu, was Tres Ordinare. The soup part was weakly flavored, the included seafood was mostly mussels with a few calms, a small amount of fish and two undercooked, slimy scallops. The key to a good seafood stew is to cook the sea food in the broth. They did not do this, instead, the y made the broth separately and placed the seafood in it at the time of serving. To top it off they presented the dish with a poorly toasted piece of supermarket French bread.
The bread was another problem. Instead of getting their bread from a good local bakery, Hank's used ordinary fake French bread which is white bread shaped like French bread.
Bottom line.....poor food, overpriced.
I must add that mt wife's vegetable pasts was also unremarkable. Our two dining friends were very pleased with the seared (un cooked) tuna... so I guess if Hank's doesn't cook it, they don't mess it up.
This is a typical tourist joint where the restaurant doesn't need to appeal the locals.

Dined at Hanks on Friday, September 26, 2025. Dined at Hanks two years ago and the food was much better then. I had oyster stew for an appetizer. The stew was bland I added salt and butter and still not good. I ordered the butter lobster tails and crab cake entree. The lobster was mushy and the crab cake had no taste. We don’t drink alcohol. For two of us to dine the bill was 207.00 (no desert). I don’t mind paying for good food but this was definitely not worth the money.
We were very happy to start our Charleston week at a fantastic restaurant. Everything with Hank's was top notch. The server was very knowledgeable about drinks and the menu, providing us with some great recommendations for the evening. I had the evening's special, trigger fish. Well done. My first time having trigger fish and was not disappointed. It was so good I forgot what my wife had. Check them out and decide for yourself.

We ate at Hank's some 15 years ago, and it was memorable. It's usually not possible to go back to someplace this many years later, let alone have a meal that meets expectations. Hank's is the exception. Our meal was amazing, service was fantastic, and this was just as memorable as our first time there. Hats off to Hank's! Highly recommend them. (Had Seafood a la Wando, btw)
