Best mole I’ve had outside of Mexico! How many “Mexican” restaurants have you been to which don’t feature the “national dish of Mexico”??? And some feature mole ….. and typically they’re …… okay. But not at Mixteca! The mole was rich, flavorful - ¡Sabroso! The service was excellent :-)

Great food, the carne asada, chorizo and Pastor tacos are all delicious! Home made tortillas, not the packet junk you get at other places! Menudo and the chilaquiles are great options as well! ☆☆☆☆☆

As popular a Mexican Restaurants are, I am not a fan……..But this one really is Great. Not sure what all the differences are, but the quality of Mexican food is much better than what I have experienced anywhere in the Lowcountry I can’t wait to bring my wife by here.

Sorry I didn’t get a before pic.

Thank you!!!

Alright, folks, gather ‘round! Let me tell you about my recent culinary adventure at La Mexteca in Summerville, SC. Now, if you’re looking for a place that serves food hotter than my chili cook-off (and trust me, that’s saying something!), then you’ve struck gold!

First off, walking into La Mexteca is like stepping into a fiesta—colorful decor, lively music, and the aroma of spices that could wake the dead! I half expected a mariachi band to jump out and serenade me while I placed my order. But alas, the only thing jumping was my taste buds!

Now, let’s talk about the menu. I’m convinced it was crafted by culinary wizards. I ordered the carne asada tacos, and let me tell you, they were so good they should be illegal. Each bite was like a little flavor explosion, and I was left wondering if I had just discovered the secret to happiness. I mean, who needs a therapist when you’ve got tacos, am I right?

The service? Top-notch! The staff was friendlier than a golden retriever at a barbecue. They made sure my chips and salsa were refilled faster than I could say, “I’ll have another margarita, please!” Speaking of margaritas, they were like sunshine in a glass. One sip, and I was ready to dance like nobody was watching—even though my kids were filming me for TikTok.

Now, I’ve got to mention the dessert, because, folks, it’s a must! The flan was so creamy, it could’ve been a contestant on “America’s Got Talent.” I almost asked for a standing ovation. I mean, who knew something so simple could taste like a hug from your grandma?

If you’re in Summerville and haven’t been to La Mexteca yet, what are you doing with your life? It’s a fiesta for your taste buds and a party for your soul! So grab your family, put on your stretchy pants, and get ready to indulge. You won’t regret it! And remember, life is too short to skip dessert—especially when it’s flan!

I never do ratings but this place was the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Service was great she was super friendly. Amazing authentic food and really cool art and atmosphere. The horchata was served in a huge clay mug with cool cart on it. I will now be coming here all the time!

The food was very delicious, I had never been to a Mexican restaurant that charged me for chips and salsa. I ordered a Menudo and a panas and I got a taco with the little belly they put in it! I can't believe how little they serve! You fill yourself with broth only. The only thing I liked was the horchata water and the truth is that it still needs more rice and cinnamon for my taste, but it was still delicious. But please put more belly in that Menudo broth!!!! That in my photo is leg bone, more bone than leg!

The food tastes good but if you go in a group of more than 6 people, know that they are not prepared to handle it.

I give rid place three stars, only because the service was so wonderful. That said the food was not very good. I had caldo de res. It was not very good and load with french cut green beans that weighted the whole dish down. Also they charge for chips and salsa. To me for a Mexican restaurant to charge for chips and salsa is like an Italian restaurant charging for bread. I most likely won't be going back. Also the music was way too loud.

Very good place, you can feel the Oaxacan seasoning from the entrance, the stews are very good and their prices are affordable, the seasonal waters are very refreshing and the pot coffee is exquisite, the chilaquiles, whether red or green, always go down well, or If you like something lighter, some eggs with chorizo, each dish contains a very generous portion. We will continue to discover more of their menu.
