Delicious, great service, but sleazy. Who charges a dollar to make a drink on the rocks. Yup, a buck for a few ice cubes. Not once, but on both my seatmate's drinks. Really? How chintzy! We all thought the supplementary fee for using a credit card was tacky, but charging for ice? Also, pass on the 7 dollar sip of expresso.Note to owner: Nickle and diming customers leaves one with a bad taste in ones mouth despite the delicious food. People are going to drop a couple of bills to eat there, so grubbing for an extra buck makes you look ticky tacky and greedy.Part 2: Many thanks for your response. I asked our server at the Royal Tern this evening about the "buck for ice" question. She confirmed your response, so my apologies for that. She did however agree with us that the supplementary fee for using a credit card was a stretch. We backchecked our first visit to your resto and noted that the supplementary fee was not added to that bill. Is this a new feature? Maybe worth the price as we each had five bucks of fun laughing about it. Also had an excellent halibut that evening. As delicious as the tuna I had last night. So, apologies for the ice thing. Was not explained the why, but am satisfied that it's a real thing. The expresso was good, but not that good.

Rehearsal Dinner Heaven! Hege’s knocked our socks off with their attention to detail, kindness to us and our 150 or so guests, and served out of this world food! Co-owner Scott, made planning our son’s rehearsal dinner so easy -he is such a nice guy- and his staff was incredible; truly on top of a very complicated schedule. Our guests were gushing about the food! More than once I was told it was the best fish they had ever eaten and the lobster ravioli was to die-for. Everything, from the seafood setup, the passed hors d’oeuvres, and the station was exceptional. They were flexible when I asked to bring in a groom’s cake, accommodating with set up, timing and menus, super professional and really MADE the wedding weekend for us. It was a huge undertaking. We were thrilled with how the evening went. Thank you Hege’s!!!

We were looking forward to a return trip to Hege’s last weekend, but unfortunately it was not as enjoyable. Two of the four guests ordered the She Crab soup, and both became ill after returning home (only dish in common); the other appetizers/salads were fine. One guest ordered the Halibut special and commented that while a decent meal, it was nothing special and they wished they had ordered something else. Two guests ordered beef dishes and indicated they were prepared as ordered and had a nice flavor. I ordered the Lobster Fettuccini and the lobster and scallops on top of the pasta was overcooked. Other members of the party noticed and commented on the struggles trying to remove the lobster from the shell and cut it into bites. Not the same diligence for the meals as we had previously experienced. Overall, the service was fine, except for the busser trying to clear three diner’s plates when they were not finished with the meals. And when did they start passing the credit card fee back to the diner? Not something I expect from what is considered a high-end restaurant. We have had many fine meals in other restaurants in the area, so will be looking at other options on our next trip to Kiawah.

Hege's restaurant will provide you with first class food and service. From the initial greeting at the front door- which was exceptional- to assistance in ordering and pairing your foods the service was top notch. All our courses were first class, Escargot, French Salad. Muscles, Bread baked in house were all top notch. The main courses were truly spectacular and well seasoned. My Ribeye was succulent and the sides were enormous. Order your steak about 1/2 grade higher than normal though. My wife had the seafood extravaganza and it was spot on. Five star all the way and the portions were sizeable. Desert was creme Brule and just perfect. We loved our experience and will definitely be back. Overall a solid A.
This place is truly special. Such amazing flavors in the food you can’t find anywhere else. Every dish is fantastic, I really don’t think you can go wrong. And always great service.Any and every chance I get to come to Hege’s I will take it!

As a first time guest, I had no idea what a treat I was in for. The halibut was absolutely divine! The rice and beurre blanc sauce blew my tastebuds out of this world! Be prepared to enjoy layers of flavor in every bite. The spinach melts in your mouth. The host/owner and wait staff were attentive and polite. The only negative was the mosquitoes on the patio, but the atmosphere was worth the nuisance and as soon as I mentioned them, the server brought out non aromatic repellant. We will return again and again.Kid-friendliness: Our 9 month old was well accommodated and enjoyed the food!

Heges was by far our best meal in Kiawah Island, including all of the restaurants at the Sanctuary Resort. The French country escargot, blistered shishito peppers, classic French salad, watermellon salad, and classic French seafood roast were a 10 of 10!Dietary restrictions: Heges is very gluten-free friendly
