Great place to have breakfast! Either country style breakfast or bakery items. Outstanding service and delicious food!

I wouldn’t recommend anyone eat at this bakery. It is quite dirty and extremely disorganized. It seemed that everyone who works there speaks Spanish and it is difficult to speak English to them. In line, we had to speak to a few employees before one of them were able to help us. The turkey sandwich was inedible and I threw it in the trash. The bread smells and they put onion on their sandwiches. Overall no good and do not recommend the pastry or cookies. Although the cake donut was okay.

Super busy store. Had to wait in long line to purchase reserved ticket which was the same line to order bakery items. The bakery item was good however, not a great experience.

EXTREMELY SLOW!!! No systems in place. The menu is not extensive, keep pumping out the food instead of one order at a time. Person taking orders kept placing her arms on the stack of plates. ?

Appallingly dirty, very disorganized and very mediocre food. This is a bakery/coffee shop with folgers type coffee and powdered creamer. None of the pastries (and there are alot) are flavorful. The ordering system is chaotic. You have to go to one counter to order pastries and then another to order hot food and then find someone to pay. There was a hole in the ceiling with nasty rusted venting blowing down. Most of the chairs and tables are in varying levels of disrepair. There are random chotszkys all over the place that look like they were pulled out of gramma's attic. Living rural does not have to mean you cannot enjoy a good cup of coffee with real cream, and well-cooked food and properly baked pastries. And if a restaurant wants to sell gifts, focus on quality made products of the region. It's not nostalgic like The Hill. It is not adorable like the Gathery. It is not yummy like El Jimador. It is not friendly like Yanni's. It's not legendary like Bellville Meat Market. They are not using quality ingredients like Farm to Market. They are not award-winning like the cupcake shop. It's not cutting edge like 22 North Holland. I come to Bellville 4 or 5 times a year and enjoy all these places but I do not understand Newman's popularity.

Seems this "tour" is not what it once was. Be prepared to wait in a long line to check in at the bakery. You stand in the same line with everyone else ordering food (a ploy that forces you to walk past all their baked goods with your children in tow of course) which took about 20+ minutes. It was super crowded at the castle (they're clearly overselling tickets) and all of the passageways and stairwells are really tight. It made it hard to walk around and enjoy the experience. Also, the overcrowding made parking a nightmare. There was no guide or signage anywhere around the castle, so its difficult to appreciate much on this "tour". Lunch was a very basic sandwich which a bag of chips. Some bakery treats (donuts and cookies) were also out. Overall, this "tour" was not worth the $100 for our family nor the 1 1/2 drive it took to get there. Some notes if you do choose to go: 1 - Arrive early to avoid some of the crowds 2 - Don't bring a stroller. If you have a little one, I'd recommend a carrier or sling. 3- Don't waste your money on donuts and cookies at the bakery; they're out at the castle. 4 - Sandwiches are turkey or ham with onions, lettuce tomato, and mayo. If you don't like any of these items, be sure to special request when you call to book the tour. None of my family eats mayo and it took an act of God to get sandwiches without it. Haven't they heard of condiment packets?

May vet well be one of the filthiest places I’ve ever eaten. Not one employee spoke English so we spent over 5 minutes trying to order a cold Turkey sandwich and a chicken salad sandwich and still one of them had the wrong bread. The bread crust was too hard to even bite into, chicken salad had NO flavor. Shelf through the moddle of store is heavily coated in dust and trash, spatulas to spread Mayo was caked with dried Mayo. Giant hole in ceiling had mold all around it. Floor was dirty, unswept and disgusting. Would never even consider coming back.

They tell you to check in at the bakery. Charge is $20.00. Lunch is a sack lunch with a sandwich, chips and a cup of water. The day we went there were a bunch of people, not a lot of parking space available. I thought it was a tour where they tell you the history of the castle. You walk around on your own and just see the different room. My advice is don’t make a reservation and save your $20.00. Go straight to the castles. No one checks on who paid and who did not. There was a bus full of woolen pulling in when we were there. Maybe some history of the castle would be better and limit the group size.

Our third and now last visit with different family members. I get it was spring break but the castle was so overcrowded, safety violations I am sure. You have to make reservations I guess for the sandwiches but should use to limit. Standing crowded rooms with kids swinging wooden swords. Wheelchairs, bus of blind people plus all the cars with children. Plus the owner no longer discusses the castle history and building. A script should be provided to person and a microphone in order to give the information. $80 well wasted on a disappointment.

We came in nearly at closing time and had a turkey sandwich on sourdough. It was extraordinary. Everything was fresh, the service was wonderful and it was even better than we had hoped. Of course we did not leave without stocking up on some of our favorite pastries we shouldn’t be eating . They were also excellent. So happy to see that others reviews and the reputation we’ve heard verbally was right on. Looking forward to going back having a nice lunch and then touring the castle.

I was looking forward to this castle, however, it seems that the owner (Newman) is not a huge fan of kids. He does tell stories but he was extremely rude to the kids. While I was there, the daycare kids had a field trip and Newman pulled one of the kids by the shirt. He told my kids to shut up in front of everyone and was very rude after that. He told them to get where he said to get (behind the trees because he was launching something) but he just didn’t want them to be together. Just make sure not to talk while he talks, otherwise… good luck! No social skills and no kindness to kids. He even told an elderly lady something rude because she couldn’t really hear. He tried to argue with an adult when the lady told him that his mother cannot hear well. Then he said, well she can read then signs then. Overall, we are paying for good customer service, if he doesn’t like people then he shouldn’t open up his castle (home) to anyone. Yes, you will get lunch but be aware of his treatment. Will not recommend and will never return! Plain Rude! Food and cookies are not even good! The bread falls apart while you are trying to eat the sandwich. No wonder he lives alone! And I’m sorry but he smelled like armpits, please shower Newman!
