This place looks pretty simple from the outside, and even when walking in, it didn't look like much, especially because the place was empty around 9:30pm on a Sunday (day before MLK holiday), but more people came later. Also, during the night, I began to notice the various random pieces of art on the bar shelves and on the walls, which along with some dim lighting, added great character to the place. It's a cozy bar that serves beer, wine, and coffee, so we shared 1-2 bottles of wine (the Bordeaux and Sangiovese) and both were really good. I came with coworkers and another friend, and we took up two of their three tables inside. Luckily, they have some bar seating too, so other guests were able to use those.They had live jazz here this past weekend (which they do every other Sunday), and the band produced an enjoyable performance throughout the night. But the music was really loud, like club volume, so it was hard to have conversations in there... but maybe it's better so people can focus on the music!?! Either way, this was a really laid back spot, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a great experience.

It is certainly not a large posh place but somewhere you may feel comfortable however you dress and whether or not you know anyone. The owner and bar keeper are like family and served bbq shrimp on the counter for customers. I attended a memorial for an actor and it was just right. If it bothers you that the ceiling was leaking into a bucket this may not be your place but, for me and the others, no body seemed to notice.

Khon knocks it out of the park with his mudbugs. Cajun Asian fusion, cold beer and lagniappe! Oui, mon cher! I'd post a picture, but 5 lbs didn't last long enough. His boil is custom, mostly fresh peppers of various kinds, garlic and a little seasoning, but not a lot of salt. Excellent! Start with five lbs for the best price, ask for the fixin's and get a cold one. Only one small,bad part: Not every day, just on the weekends. Too bad! We'll be back next weekend!

It's been a rough year because of Covid. A lesser-covered issue we've all been facing has been isolation and a feeling of loneliness. I am so grateful for Khon's because it gives me a SAFE and low-key place to hang out and get a little social time on the loneliest nights. The best bar in Houston. Not the biggest or flashiest, but a real neighborhood cheers bar where you'll meet regulars and become one yourself whether you down the block or 15 miles away. Great people having great times. No drama or BS.
