We've many great things about this place. We finally went there. I went there for the bone-in fried chicken, but I ended up with chicken (tenders) and waffle. First of the portion is big. The tenders are juicy and flavorful and the waffle was fluffy and good. I got full that I didn't get any of the desserts and pies. The good news, it is a reason for me to go back. Which I will definitely will.UPDATE: we went back for the pies! We had the banana creme and key lime. They were both delightful! These are not your pre-packed pies that they defrost. These are made with fresh ingredients. My favorite is the key lime. Tell you what, the key lime (they said from Key West), is the definite star of this pie. The banana creme is up there too.

The chicken fried steak plate was very good. The thin coating on steak was just right, which made the steak better. The green beans with bacon and tomato were good. The French fries were very good, and crispy. My wife's chicken and waffle plate was very good. The waffle was very good and with the chicken, it is sensational.

Earl Abel’s staff are lovely, they answer the phones to take a reservation, the ambience and cleanliness is top notch. The food was just very basic. We had chicken fried steaks, mash and gravy and salad. The salad was great, biscuits are good too. I was sad because I’ve seen the reviews, but in the photos the food looks so good, just doesn’t taste the best. It just doesn’t wow you. We took home key lime pie and cream puffs. The desserts were great. Overall was a good place to meat up with friends but it wasn’t somewhere I want to run back to. So that’s sad because I want a place full of lovely vibrant staff to do well.

We didn't hate it, but we definitely weren't thinking we'd return for brunch. The bottom of my waffle was charred, the fried chicken wasn't impressive, and $2 for a handful of blueberries scattered on top (I was probably silly for expecting them to be cooked in) was all disappointing. The sausage patties seemed to be the same brand I get at Holiday Inn. So, all in all, not a breakfast/brunch choice. The service was great and if we're in the area we'd come by to try out some pies and the lunch/dinner options! The pies all look amazing.

Earl Abel's is always fabulous! The food is reliably delicious and Stayton is a terrific server. Highly recommend the fried chicken tender sandwich add fried egg, or the chicken and waffles (bring your appetite!), the chicken fried steak, oh everything there is delicious!Vegetarian options: There are definitely options for the low carb or vegetarian crowd. Harder to satisfy vegan needs but there are limited options.

Crispy Fried chicken with decent breading cooked just right. Fries were also battered and had a good crunch and flavor.

We came to Earl Able’s on Thanksgiving. We had tried to call several times to make a reservation. When we arrived we were told they were totally booked. However they told us we could sit on the patio and get a meal. We ordered the soup and the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The waiter arrived with salads - we explained we had ordered the soups. She left the salads and brought the soup. Before we had time to finish the main meal arrived. It looked beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. There was plenty of food and we both took a to-go box. We tried pie for dessert. The pumpkin and cherry were both delicious. We were so impressed by the food and the kindness of everyone that worked here - we decided to return on Saturday before we had to go to the airport to return home. We wanted to try the world-famous fried chicken. I had my favorite - chicken and waffles. So good! I left nothing on my plate. My wife enjoyed her chicken sandwich. Also not much was left on her plate. We would highly recommend this restaurant!

I specifically went there to get a maple pecan pie for my son. He says that's his favorite pie out of all pies, so I went to get it for his birthday. I have to say they are delicious. Always are.Anyways... I went into Earl Able's yesterday and I was greeted/assisted by Stayton. He was quit jovial for it to be so early. His spirit and personality is what they need around there. Very helpful and knowledgeable. He even talked me into getting there lunch special for the day.The chicken sandwich was ok. The piece of chicken was small compared to other places and it was a bit over cooked. It was nicely seasoned though.I will always return for the maple pecan pie. And I would also return because of the outstanding customer service. I'd probably just try something different on the menu next time.Kid-friendliness: The children will probably enjoy the decor and the outside seating on the patio. This is a pet friendly restaurant as well.
Glad I finally was Able to visit this San Antonio landmark! At first I was worried about the parking but there's a good sized little lot off to the rear right side of the building. Of course, I ordered their FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN which happened to be the special of the day: 2 pieces of amazing fried chicken, fries, and a biscuit for only $7.50 - You can't beat that!!! The chicken was AMAZING and I'm still trying to fugure out what that extra scrumptious taste is that makes it stand out amongst Gus's and Chatman's. Right now it's tied for the 2nd best fried chicken I've evertasted (In my opinion) behind Gus's and maybe a smidge above Chatman's... ?♂️ I added a side of green beans, but at $3.95, but should've just stayed with what came with the special and I still would've been filled up nicely. On the way out I was drawn to the pie display case and couldn't leave without trying a slice of Key Lime Pie. It was fantabulous with it's fresh, tangy-ness and luxurious whipped cream. Service was friendly, and food took a bit, but I honestly feel everything was made right after ordering! Make time to visit this jewel off Broadway. Make enough time to enjoy the home-cooked food, the great atmosphere, and friendly service! Gotta come back for other homestyle favorites like CFS and CFC!

It was my first time there so I got the classic chicken and waffles and added strawberries. The strawberries were really good but I’m not sure they were worth two dollars extra. The house soda is really good as well and I also recommend the fried pickles with the ranch dip. They make the fried pickles well here.

Came for pancakes, come to find out they don't serve pancakes. Plan b, hubby had to order waffles! He liked them, but he wasn't wowed. I had the egg plate with biscuit, bacon, and hash browns, which were surprisingly good, and I don't like hashbrowns normally. Eggs were cooked like I ordered and tasted good. I also had a cafe au lait which tasted really good but it was cold. The menu was very limited, especially for kids, and drinks were expensive. Our server was nice, but the atmosphere was a bit stressed. I was asked if I wanted my coffee to go while I was still eating. Yikes. So overall, it was good for one time, but I will not return.

I wish I could give this cozy lil spot 10 stars!!! I wish I could remember his name, but gentlemen with the glasses that waited on us three ladies this after noon on the patio, your customer service skills were a 10 outta 10!! Polite, funny, attentive at just the right moments!! We appreciate you! We had mimosas, chicken and waffles, so good, and the turkey avocado club everything was hot and fresh, and hit the spot! Will def be going back for brunch!!
