Reviews for Live Oak Restaurant

This is a hard review to write. I really would give them a 3.5. I tried them Saturday 1/25/20 during restaurant week. I liked the spin of adding prosciutto to the fried green tomatoes but the actual tomatoes lacked salt and any type of seasoning. The Shenandoah steak just was ok - it also lacked salt or any seasoning. The gravy and potatoes were tasty. Where this place grabbed my attention was the dessert! The custard pie and bread pudding are absolutely heavenly. I would full review
Went there for the first time for Restaurant Week. Pleasant space with high ceilings shades of gray, nice open feel. Tables are nicely spaced. Even though there were dampners hanging from the ceiling, noise level was a bit high. Only the Restaurant Week prefix menu was offered. Fried green tomatoes, Broccoli cheddar soup, grilled skirt steak ($6 surcharge) and the trout were all excellent, though the steak portion kind of left me wanting. Overall a very talented kitchen, full review

Not bad, but nothing really special here. I'd heard good things about this restaurant but I fear it may suffer from the the Del Ray Effect. The Del Ray neighborhood is extremely supportive of its restaurant scene and the locals make sure they are very highly rated. This is not always a bad thing.
