Today we bought a chicken pot pie and an apple cinnamon pie for $30 each. The filling of the chicken pot pie was oddly similar to Chinese food in appearance, texture, and taste and contained a lot of diced potatoes (an obvious attempt to lower costs). The apple pie was OK. Just OK, for $30, when a frozen Marie Callender's apple pie is just as tasty and costs less than $10. I don't see why anyone would go back for more.

Very sad to hear the Pie Chest is closing, but excited appreciative of the time they were open and happy for them to begin a new chapter. I'm grateful they are offering one more Pie Academy so that I'll have a chance to learn my favorite pie recipe. Now comes the hard part, deciding which one that will be. We decided to stop in and pick up a few slices to see if we could start narrowing it down. We enjoyed a slice of pineapple crumble, Oreo, and banoffee. So far, banoffee has a leg up.

The Pie Chest is one of those Charlottesville-esque hidden gems. Unfortunately I didn't know how much of a gem it was/is until recently. Highly recommend the apple pie, but you can never go wrong with any of the chocolate pie creations, esp chocolate whiskey. I haven't been able to find another pie/dessert place that comes close.

Airy & friendly (this is also the location for Lone Light Coffee). Four 3-tops inside, two 2-tops outside. Sweet and Savory pies in display cases, coffee, soda, and bourbon vanilla ice cream (!) Friendly, gracious service.

I love this place!! Every time I walk in the staff is super welcoming and they always have so many delicious pies on display. I love the chocolate mousse with hazelnut crust pie as well as the seasonal pear one they had this past week. Definitely have to try this place out if you love pie!! Will be back to get some savory pies as well.

Gorgeous savory hand-pies, tarts and pies made fresh and delicious! The cortado was excellent - strong and chewy but not bitter - and the egg sausage and fetta cheese hand-pie was a perfect lunch. This was my first foray into Charlottesville's food offerings and it did not disappoint. Will come back for something special to take home for Thanksgiving.

Love this place! Great breakfast pies. I also like their sweet pies they slap. Also, they make the best vanilla latte I’ve had in my life.

Perfectly tucked away to avoid a long wait or a crowd, The Pie Chest never disappoints! Lone Light coffee is some of the best in town, and their savory pies are perfect for breakfast or lunch when in a pinch. Highly recommend the sweet potato and goat cheese hand pie - it's become a go-to on the downtown mall.

I asked for key lime and they told me to try their Triple citrus pie. It was so good. It was amazing. I want 15 slices of this pie.

I love, love, love this place. The three areas of importance for my shopping to be a pleasure are the people, the place, and the product. The people. The folks are always welcoming and friendly. Most of the time, someone greets me with a warm hello as soon as I walk in the door. The only exception is when there's a crowd. I'm usually there pretty early so crowds aren't an issue. I've never had a grumpy greeting. The few times I've gone in the afternoon, I was still in and out within a reasonable period of time. The place. There's no indoor seating anymore but it's always bright and clean and there are two quaint tables outside. Again, I'm usually early so there's a table available but I'm also racing out to work so I never get to use them. The only downside is the location. It's on a side street of the downtown mall so if you're not visiting the mall, you may have difficulty parking. There are three spots just in front because it's on the drive through street of the mall but you're playing the lottery to catch a spot. It's another reason I usually go as soon as they open. The product. The real star of the show is the food. I've tried hot pies to eat immediately, cold pies for dessert, and cold pies that I refrigerated and heated a few days later. They were all delicious!! I usually gravitate towards a sweet tooth but the pies are so savory that dessert isn't often necessary. My absolute favorite is the sausage, goat cheese and honey hand pie. I could eat it every day. Every. Single. Day. It's just so good. I've only had the chai tea and it was very good as well. I usually have to add a little sweetener but I appreciate that more than if I had a tea I couldn't unsweeten. Pitfall? Parking. In a nutshell: it's a gem that I almost hope you don't discover because I don't want competition for my early morning pie.

Didn't realize have to call ahead to order a whole pie but had a variety of sweet & savory pies in store, sweet pies by the slice. Coconut cream, strawberry rhubarb, dark chocolate, triple citrus, cherry, bourban pecan some of the options when I was there. Very much selling pies + coffee. Staff was nice and quick in and out. Some tables for sitting also.

Stopped in just out of curiosity, and glad I did! The gal behind the counter was super helpful and pleasant. My mushroom/leek pie was excellent! The espresso was on point... great little find. I'd love to come back and try all their savory and sweet pies.
