Update; the business is now closed and the place is now for lease.Specifically went back to get the homemade choc.chip cookies only to find out I paid $1.50 for less than half the size of the cookie that they used to have ...not to mention half the taste. When I asked the girl about it I was told that they switch brands due to a storage because the other cookies were taking up too much room in the case. Additionally their tea cups are TOO SMALL. They should be twice the size because their tea bags are potent. How many times do I have to discard my tea because it doesn't contain enough water which makes it bitter. The only reason I gave three stars is because I did try the lemon blueberry muffin which was great todayand the mango tea today with ( loads of sugar... Five packets to be exact and it turned out palatable)Please get it together! I want to support this business but I'm not going to keep wasting money

First off Jade and Sharrisse were the best bar tenders.. they were aware of their customers and gave full service that was above reproach. The only drawbacks to the this place was the lack of bar food.. it's the first BLACK owner bared in the hampton roads area so i expected more. 1. While lack of a food truck , no wings to satisfy the need for food2. Beer is not cold. For a brewery , i expected more 3. Food. We as blacks .. like appetizers .. provide more or don't provide at all.. get black owned food trucks to supply the customer ... all this place offers is flat bread.. get wings !!! it sells Love the fact that this is black owned ; However capture the culture and embrace what we stand for. We will support if the business supports our culture

Wanted to visit some spots in Hampton since I was in town and am always curious about different brewery in the area. I got a flight with 4 seltzers and 1 sour beer. I love how many options there were to chose from for the seltzers. I got blood orange, cucumber, spicy pineapple for the seltzers. I liked the spicy pineapple the most, wish I had some tajin to put in both the cucumber and pineapple. The ladies in there were really friendly and the space is perfect for both small and large groups.

The drinks are just alright, but the staff is super friendly and accommodating. You'll definitely have a good time there, especially for trivia nights on Thursdays

Nestled in the Phoebus area it’s definitely a gem among gems. Date night or Night Cap. It’s a nice spot to grab a bite to eat and or have a few drinks while playing one of many table games. Not feeling a game unless it’s on the flat screen? Not a problem. Grab your drink and relax in the lounge area and watch whatever is playing on one of the big screens, or heck out the various historical facts post throughout the place. I do recommend this gem. If this post is helpful; please tap thumbs up. Thanks. Oh and one more thing. Ask for the bartender Tiffany and try the J.W. aka Just Wonderful. It’s a drink she mixed up specifically for my table (let her know you heard about it from a post). I asked for a little extra wonderful in my glass lol, and it was JUST WONDERFUL!! Cheers??

This was a very cool spot! Definitely an old building, but the interior was well put together. There was only one guy working and one person training, but it wasn't busy at all and they were very helpful. I liked the beer! I also loved that they had coffee, food, and non-alcoholic mixed drink options so people who don't drink can still have an enjoyable time. This is also the first black-owned brewery in the area! Overall very cool place and I will be back!

I randomly popped in on a Friday night and the staff were super personable, great beer, and a really cool vibe. I didn't know karaoke was happening that night, but it was a cool vibe. The bartenders also gave a great rec for a bakery around the corner and it didn't disappoint.
1865 Brewing Company is a fantastic brewery that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable experience. Not only are the crafted beers delicious and expertly made, but the atmosphere is truly special. The decor consists of fascinating black history photos and information that really adds to the overall vibe of the place. It's inspiring to see the first black-owned brewery in Hampton celebrating and showcasing black culture and history in such a meaningful way. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, making for a welcoming and inclusive environment. Whether you're a beer enthusiast or just looking for a great place to hang out with friends and family, 1865 Brewing Company is definitely worth a visit.

Awesome place with good beers and a fun atmosphere. Outdoor seating area has a place for live music and is pet friendly. Really enjoyed the Freedom Lager. Free parking out front. Bring your friends and have a chill night inside or out. Could be a good spot to start or finish a bachelor/bachelorette party.

Great and cute bar slash cigar lounge in Hampton area. Passed by on a Sunday to have a cigar and some beer. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful. They smoking lounge upstairs was closed since early but I got a tour of it and it's a nice place to enjoy a stick. Had a flatbread while there which was also excellent. Outdoors area too. I'm sure this place must be lively on a Saturday or Friday evening. Recommended!!

I've been dying to come to this black owned brewery. It's funny that I've recommended this brewery to friends before I've even frequented the establishment. I went this past Sunday for the peninsula women's market. They had a band playing inside, which was nice but very loud, I think it would have been so much better on the patio. The line to order drinks/food was a bit long as only one person was working the line, but then they opened another. My friend got the seltzer flight for $9, unsure if they were running a special as my one cup was also $9. I wish I had known this as I would have definitely ordered the flight instead. We sat outside, and I loved the vibe and games. I could see myself grabbing some friends on a warm summer night and hanging out here. The spicy pineapple seltzer was so good and honestly unexpected. I tried my friends strawberry lemonade seltzer, and I'm definitely ordering that next time.
