Was told one of the orders was going to take 15 minutes, which was okay. The table ended up waiting just over an hour. What wasn't okay was it was the first dish out and the chicken was cold. Ordered sweet crepes and it had minimum filling, dough was undercooked and cold. The shrimp and grits was more of a soup. The table only received 3 out of the 4 orders.
Absolutely loved this place my boyfriend and I were hesitant at first. But I'm so glad we tried this place. Home style potatoes were great, and French toast. My boyfriend loved the shrimp grits dish!
This is a refreshing addition to the Breakfast food scene. My wife and I when during lunch time (12ish) she had a Chatamari and I and the Lamb but sub quinoa over rice. I also enjoyed the golden milkshake.
Very delicious food, attentive staff and great options for breakfast/brunch/lunch. This restaurant is perfect if you are craving something comforting but a little different from your everyday breakfast foods. My husband and I went back and got the Chatamari and shrimp and grits, however didn't get a pic of those because we demolished them. The flavors are fantastic.
This is the great restaurant with a good atmosphere, fresh food, and friendly staff.
I met a friend there and, since it wasn't terribly busy that day, we stayed and talked for over 2 hours. They were so nice to us, attentive but laid back; no pushing us to hurry up. The food was wonderful. I had the "noodle burrito"and my friend had the chicken soup. Both were delicious and interesting, not like anything you'd get anywhere else. We also both had the chiya (milky tea with spices)--a real luxury. The menu has both Nepalese/Asian influenced food and typical American options, with meat as well as vegetarian and vegan, so good for almost anyone. The owner was very willing to go over the menu with me and describe the dishes. They offer take-out. I will be back.
Amazing new restaurant with delicious food. Even their more decadent options will leave you feeling good. Also, as a plus, they have recently applied for a liquor license.
Hidden gem in Newport News City Center. Looks brand new with very clean and minimalistic decor. The menu was very diverse with breakfast and lunch options. We went in looking for vegan options and Anmol was very knowledgeable with the menu. We ending up getting the Chatamari and the Avocado Toast. Both items were presented beautifully and delicious. First time having Nepalese food and would definitely like to try more and would love to come back. Great experience.
The restaurant is Nepalese, but has some American choices as well. Nice modern styling with a clean appearance. The waiter was kind, and so were the owners when they walked in. We got the stuffed French toast and some dish I can't remember the name of, but both were very delicious. The spices used in the egg dish reminded me of Indian spices which I love. Would definitely come back.
What a wonderful surprise! My wife and I had lunch here today. I had sweet potato pancakes and my wife had shrimp and grits. Both were unique, delicious and freshly made. The service was amazing and the owners take such pride in the craft that they create. They want you to love your food. I cant wait to go back!
We purposely set time aside to return to Vedeat for a late leisure breakfast and were not disappointed: the Chatamari (rice flour pancakes with chicken, eggs, herbs and spices), fried potatoes side and Indian omelet were amazing! Layered with flavor, well-cooked, beautifully presented by a genuinely friendly staff, going to Vedeat is a wonderful food as well as cultural experience. Well priced also. We are definitely telling our friends about this place and are already planning to go back!
Had a very good experience here with my kids. The food comes out quickly and the customer service is just awesome. Prices are convenient.
My first visit here and I loved the atmosphere, the food, our waiter, and waitress! We had the chiya tea which was quite delicious! Also the noodle burrito which was a very nice twist to a burrito...the ingredients were fresh and this dish was delectable!!! The house potatoes were very well seasoned....scrumptious!!! My hubby also had the blueberry pancakes...didnt get to try them but they looked good!!!! Will return!!!
12/6/19 Had lunch today at Vedeat. I had the chicken salad sandwich and sweet potatoe fries. Absolutely wonderful. Staff has outstanding customer service skills. Also, had the mocha coffee. I love it. It is a must!
This spot is quite a gem. The service was warm and friendly; the food was amazing! I opted for the noodle burrito. While it more resembled a noodle filled omelet, the flavors were indescribably wonderful and well-balanced. I can't wait to come back!
Fantastic find! Very unique. Wanted to try everything on the menu. Will definitely come back to fulfill it:) Great service, good proves, very high quality food. Five stars all around.
Super sweet and accommodating staff. Food is unique and delish!!! Def going back
Good flavor. Very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere
This little cafe was wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised. It literally had something for everyone. Very clean and friendly. My family has so many dietary restrictions and we were able to eat here. The food was clean, nothing processed and has a home cooked feel. It was so tasty. We had the chicken soup, home style potatoes, power bowl, avocado toast, oatmeal pancakes, chicken and rice, coffee, omelet, and scrambled eggs. Literally every one loved their food. I will absolutely come back here when in town again. So hard to find quality food cooked from scratch these days.
Wife & I came in on a Sunday. She had Veggie omelet with toast (she loved it). I had Gypsy toast (strawberry) with a side of home potatoes it was excellent. I would definitely recommend Vedeat.
Nice little hidden gem. Ill go back to try other dishes. Had the chicken philly with sweet potato
Manager at the Cove Tavern and I decided I wanted something new and refreshing not to mention healthy since I'm pregnant. I walked over and first thing I loved was how cozy it felt. I order my food togo and when I got back to work and began eating my breakfast oh my goodness was it amazing. This is definitely a place I'm going to try again.
Wife and I just stopped in for brunch. I’ve heard a couple people mention this new place that opened up, so I thought let’s try it! Man was that a good idea.
This place is ssooo cute! The music was very chill and relaxing. The table setting was adorable. The waitress was so nice and the waiter had a cute bow tie. They had Mason jar mugs and a carafe of ice water with lemon on the table. I had the vegetable omelette with bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach and cheese. It was served with a spicy sauce on the side and whole grain toast. The strawberry preserves were so delicious I thought maybe they were made in house but the waitress just said it was organic. It definitely wasn't smuckers. I also liked the pat of butter in a foil wrapping was at room temp. There is nothing worse than trying to spread cold hard butter on toast. I also had the pork sausage links that came with 3 in the order. My husband and I split hash browns which were served in a small cast iron skillet. It was very cute. My husband had an Indian spiced omelette which had onions and bell peppers. Also served with a side of spicy sauce. He had a bowl of fresh fruit that had grapes, blueberries and strawberries. I used to get lunch bell for breakfast when I worked in the office park so I'm glad something has replaced it. I hope the crowds follow because this is a little gem. I'm inviting my nieces to join us next weekend.
My brother and I had Sunday brunch here. The place was nearly empty, probably because it's new. The food was very good. I had stuffed gypsy toast (French toast with mascarpone and diced mango) and my brother had an Indian omelette. The gypsy toast was delicious, though it could have been warmer. My brother liked his omelette, though he said it might have been a bit spicy for people who don't care for spicy food. It was a little expensive for brunch, but not alarmingly so. The service was prompt and courteous without being chummy, which is how I like it.
Vedeat far exceeded my families expectations. They offer an extensive healthy menu with a lot of variety. The veggie omelet with homemade sauce was amazing!! The protein bowls were also very good. The restaurant show cases a fresh, roomy, and clean interior. Classy and tasteful music added to the warm ambiance. Great food and service. We will definitely be back!!!
VedEat is a cute little breakfast/lunch spot tucked away in city center. It's pretty new, but it's truly a hidden gem! I have been for lunch with friends several times and enjoyed the food each time. It's always flavorful and prepared perfectly! The potatoes are my favorite! They're cooked with turmeric and other spices in little cast iron pans. They've got vegan and vegetarian options too, which is awesome. For Newport News, this is an excellent lunch option besides chain restaurants!
Outstanding eatery. Modern and creative selections. Great service ðŸ‘. Check it out.
We recently lost a relative and these lovely people were kind enough to open on a Monday for our friends and family after the funeral. They went above and beyond to make it a great day! Thank you for the delicious food!! Fried Catfish was incredible. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
Delicious, addictive noodle "burrito" - a huge serving of tasty spiced (but not hot) noodles in a crepe-thin fried egg 'wrapper'. This plus an order of the spiced fried potatoes made a delicious brunch. Enough for me to take half of each home for dinner. Along with their beautifully spiced chai tea, this all made a satisfying and unique 'brunch". Good $ deal as portions big enough for me to get dinner from it, too!
Great fresh excellent food! First visit there..very impressed.
The place is beautiful inside and the food is delicious. It's so nice to see a menu in Newport News with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. They are happy to accommodate most dietary restrictions with substitutions. My favorites are the oatmeal pancakes and the beet sliders, both vegan! The servers are so friendly and the place is very clean. There is really no place like it in NN, you need to go!
Breakfast was delicious and want to return soon for lunch. Very open, friendly space that has a warm and welcoming decor. Staff was friendly and helpful. Keep life interesting and eat more adventuresome food.
A hidden gem with fresh, creative food and good service.
The combination of spices and herbs provide a unique and tasty version of traditional foods (such as fish and chips, chicken tenders, French toast). Even my picky 10 yr old enjoys the spicy chicken tenders.
This restaurant is in the location of the much-loved Lunch Bell, which closed last year. The new look is very sleek and clean. The owners also have Aago, which has a Nepalese menu. Many East Asian spices appear in the food at Vedeat, especially at lunch. For breakfast I had the completely American blueberry pancakes. Made with buttermilk, they were light, fluffy and filled with blueberries. The coffee was very good, but at $3.00, it might be the most I've paid for coffee outside of New York. Several days later I returned for lunch and had the chicken and rice. It had some good spices with just a touch of heat. Both times the service was excellent, but it was also not very crowded. I hope they do enough business to stay open. The food isn't what the Lunch Bell crowd was used to, but adventurous eaters won't be disappointed.
Great restaurant for breakfast, brunch or lunch. It has a very unique menu with vegan options. They also have nice chai tea and mango milkshake. I would highly recommend this place.
Indian or Nepali fusion main dishes fixed fresh when you order. Vegan and vegetarian offerings available, and some regular dishes have veg options. Service was very good. Went to try it out and am making plans with two more groups to go back!
A great little hidden spot in City Center!
Great place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. The owners previously owned Aago, the Indian & Nepalese restaurant near CNU and they brought some of the Aago flair to breakfast and lunch. There are many traditional breakfast and lunch items on the menu (pancakes, avocado toast, sausage biscuit) if you’re not looking for much of a twist but there is also a variety of unique dishes such as the Chatamari (rice flour pancake topped with ground chicken, egg, onion, and cilantro) or an Indian spiced omelet if you’re looking for something new. The fish and chips were delicious with Nepalese spiced fried catfish. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried so far. The service is great and you’ll see some familiar faces if you have frequented Aago over the years. Very happy to have this addition to City Center.
