Their burgers are truly charcoal grilled and have that charred yet medium rare fresh taste. We tried the side of truffle fries and they were delicious! Came with a garlic aoili. Service was excellent and friendly. I don’t eat much red meat but I make an exception for this burger.

Okay first - the burgers were good - however the amount of salt used on fries, onion rings and fried pickles was literally sickening. It burned our mouths! I was there with a large group. We were so confused and were trying to figure out if this was meant to be or a mistake. We were seated next to the kitchen. We only ate the burgers and couldn’t take any of the rest. We even paid more for truffle fries. We didn’t complain, just asked for the check. As we were waiting we saw a cook “playing drums” on the vent above his head with his fingers. We then watched him literally dump salt into the hot oil used to make the deep fried items. We were shocked as we then watched him do it a second time! What!? Anyway. Won’t be coming back. We paid way too much to not be able to eat half of the food. Too bad. The burgers were creative and very tasty.

My first time here, the atmosphere is awesome. The server we had was more concerned with sitting near the bar with the other servers and chatting and eating, then waiting. The fired pickles were on point, probably the best I've had. The burger was tasteless, good fries. Big thanks to the other runner for our one and only refills.

Fries are stellar, definitely get an order if you come through. Onion rings are okay, I was hoping for more looking at the pictures. Burger was a lot more well done than I would have liked, to the point it was crunchy on the outside. Not sure if someone was distracted in the kitchen by the game or something, but the service was good and the food was hot. Definitely would go back for a drink and some fries.

LOVE THIS PLACE!Burgers are so good. Love the feel inside as well. Great service. They were super helpful. Try the citizen sauce! Maybe the best burger around. Truffle fries too.

I don't know if this is from the same people who created Citizen Restaurant a little further down into Richmond but the focus is small but superb. Burgers with a few related things ... That's the emphasis. Some quality sides along with some salads because you have to cover the bases Happy Hour Mon-Fri until I think 7pm gets you $2 off draft, $1 off cocktail and some discount for wine... It's also 1/2 off appetizers but only when seated at the bar. Burgers usually around $15 but they have a super-priced $25 burger! Not sure how much it had but dang it must be A LOT! We also had appetizers of onion rings and fried pickles ($9/ea) which were excellent. For the two of us the food was *definitely* more than enough! Superb and well recommended.

Great atmosphere I would imagine when a manager is on duty. Half of the place seemed to be for the employees that were there but off and/or a break room for the wait staff between tables. Burger was ok. I opted for their namesake ‘the Citizen Burger’. Other than the size it’s mostly unimpressive. Something on it was too chewy and rubbery…maybe the cheese that wasn’t melted properly. Just put the entire burger ‘off’ for pallet feel. The fries were decent. For $20+ for a burger there are other options that satisfy better. I might try again but prob will not return and couldn’t recommend it.

Always satisfying. This last time I got a burger and it was so good I almost cried. They're also good for hard ciders, if you're like me and you don't go for beer, they're good for having more than just a single default apple cider

I've been here a few times and I really like this place. The burgers are really good and the service is decent. The salads here are massive which I respect. The ambiance definitely depends on what time you go here but it's a pretty chill place to grab a quick lunch on the weekday. The meat they use in their burgers tastes like good quality burger Pattie's and is usually cooked exactly how you'd want it.

This is one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time! Instead of fries I went for the healthier salad and that was delicious too! Service was great! This is one of my favorite places in Richmond to eat!

Kind of a premature review, but the food was exceptional. I went during the bar crawl which is definitely not ideal circumstances. I was a little miffed at the pricing but the portion was fair. Huge burger and reasonably large cup of well seasoned, extra salty fries. Will return.

Oh my what a burger. Bun is so good, the meat is flavorful, ingredients are fresh and the cheese is on the next level. Pickup was so easy and the staff is real nice. When in Richmond and want a burger, this is the place!

As a visitor, we enjoyed our late night cocktails at Citizen Burger. I love the vibe of hole-in-the-wall, rough around the edges, dark and dank places like this. I'm an old grunge girl from the 90s and I feel right at home here. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Richmond.
