I was on the Southside of Richmond last week and was looking for somewhere different, but good to eat. Came upon this cute little place and decided to check it out on a whim, and I’m so glad that Idid.Never have. I ever had a lamb cheesesteak; but I’m so glad that I have an adventurous spirit, because that sandwich was absolutely delicious!! ? I had the garlic aïoli on the side which just made it even better, and I will definitely be giving it a second try to check out something different in the menu. The staff was also very kind and accommodating as I was on crutches.A little pricey for my glass of wine, but hopefully they have a happy hour too lol. I can easily see this being added to one of my favorite places to go.$$

I walked in to meet a party of 3 for some drinks and a meal. The restaurant was mostly empty. There were numerous open tables. They weren't on a wait. Sadly, they wouldn't seat me as only two of my three people were there. A wing of the building was empty. Still, we weren't good enough for a table. I left. I won't be back. Sadly, Little Nickel needs to learn that their business depends on serving the customer. Not seating me so I could relax, have a drink, and wait for my party in a mostly empty restaurant means I won't be back.

We came to Little Nickel on a busy Sunday night in the winter and had a lovely time. Though Little Nickel is quite busy on a frequent basis, it is still easy enough to find parking. Inside, it can be a little cramped, warm, and loud, but not so much so to truly bother the average person. I would simply put a little warning here for anyone who gets easily overstimulated.Staff were fantastic and food came out very quickly, even during dinner rush. Portion sizes for dinners were monstrous and well worth the price.Recommendation, if you go: Pineapple upside down cake! I have not had this in many years and Little Nickel makes it just like you would at home but better. Warm, soft inside, crisp sugary outside, moist and flavorful fruit. Give it a try!

The vibes in here are just perfect! Parking lot in the back and plenty of side street parking. Food is delicious and love that the fries are true shoestring fries.Vegetarian options: Ipanema sandwich is a delicious veg optionParking: Parking lot in the back is small, but there is SO much easy street parking on the side street.

I almost never give bad reviews but my experience at Little Nickle was not as expected. I want to say our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We ordered 3 large starters, the first and second were good. The third was the calamari and it was very bad and very cold. I have never sent a dish back before but it was that bad that we asked for it to be returned. We were asked if we wanted to swap anything out with it, we declined and said we were happy with the other two starters. They took the dish back and still charged us for the calamari when we got the check. I’ll be calling and requesting the $15 be refunded because the calamari was genuinely terrible (unlike the rest of our meal). But heads up, don’t get the calamari and make sure you take the offer to swap your meal out with something else.

Food did not do it for me. Started with the Calamari and they were pretty average l, but wasn't a fan if the dipping sauce that comes with them. We also got the Lumpia and they were not good at all and just lacked flavor. I ordered the Lamb Shank Tacos and it was pretty good, but my friend ordered the Lamb Cheese Steak and it was awful. Multiple people in the party tried the meat and could not stand the taste. It was very off.

The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The peri-peri chicken had just the right spice combo.

We came, we got ignored for 35 minutes? We were a walk in, the host with dreads was super polite, and sat us on the enclosed deck quickly. He even asked if we wanted to make sure it wasn't too cold out there. The blond waitress was out there waiting on a family, she was talking to them for a really long time, being careful not to make eye contact with us. She also checked on her other tables. She came out several times to check, each time avoiding us.After about 15 minutes the host with dreads brought us menus, they had been cleaning up a large party, we both understood how that taxes staff, as we both have worked in the service industry.Ten more minutes go by, still no one has even brought water glasses, or spoken to us besides the nice host. A couple gets seated behind us, within a minute or so a brunette waitress greets them, brings menus and water, takes their drink menu, and avoids us.We listened to the couple behind us as the waitress again comes to their table, yet avoids ours. When their drinks came out a few minutes later we finally accepted we were not getting served here, and left. The place looks nice, I liked the menu, I can only figure we were profiled for some reason, and this place is not inclusive of everyone. This doesn't really make sense, we were polite, we are good tippers always ( again, we've worked service industry), and the host was very friendly to us when being seated. We ended up walking to O'Toole's, they were friendly, inviting, and we were served quickly, despite the place being packed.Little Nickel will be a place when mentioned I tell this story to, as well as whomever else will listen. For whatever reason, they won't serve certain people apparently. We were very disappointed with the experience, and will never return.

Now I feel like I was the only one in Richmond who'd never been to this little gem. Excellent food with attention to flavor combinations, friendly staff, charming layout. 10 outta will go again!Kid-friendliness: Although it is a rather small space, they love kids and accommodate them very well. Crayons and paper to color on.
