We found the Saltbox Oyster by accident while looking for a restaurant that evidently had gone out of business. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent with a knowledgeable energetic waitress. We tried a few oysters and wished we had ordered more. The Chowder we had was excellent--I am not a chowder fan, but this had a different eastern African base and I was so sorry to finish. We shared a pear dessert and took another chocolate one home. Such fun!
Saltbox is a go-to for me any time I'm in the willow lawn area. I love raw oysters, and if you do too, you'll love saltbox. Beyond that, the PEI mussels in curry and coconut milk are excellent, the west African gumbo is an excellent variation on the more typical/traditional New Orleans gumbo you'll find at Poor Boys on Lombardy, and the French baguette with olive oil is warm and perfectly textured. Outstanding! My mother and I dined here for lunch. Beautiful, jazzy atmosphere! We both had the crab cake sandwich. We are from Baltimore and we are serious about crab cakes. This was far and beyond the BEST ever! Thank you for your vision, Mr. Tlusty. We will be back!
