The hotel is closed for renovations until April 1, 2022. Great things are in store for this one of a kind property on the water in the historic area of Yorktown.

I was all set to give this hotel 5-stars because dated decor and wear and tear don't concern me if it's clean and pleasant. The staff and owner are pleasant enough, however, customer service is non-existent. We had a major water leak, soaking the carpet, every night for our 3 night stay. We were not able to change rooms, although we walked past a few that seemed unoccupied. We were given stacks of towels to set over the water. The owner said they figured out the problem our last full day, but they didn't attempt to fix it. We asked about a discount and they politely shrugged us off but told us we can already book ahead for next year! No thank you.

Old hotel in need of renovation, but great location.

Terrible experience with this place. We tried to stay at this hotel and reserved two specific rooms several months in advance. Upon our arrival, we were told they had given away the rooms that we had reserved several months beforehand (July). The person at the front desk offered us other two other rooms. When we went to check out the other rooms they had relocated us to, we found we were facing a stairwell instead of having the view of the beach we had been initially promised. We also found a lot of mold on the ceiling tiles and walls of both rooms. The furniture had stains and there was a lot of mildew and scum in the bathtubs of both rooms. We spoke with the hotel owner about this - he said it wasn’t his problem. So, we got a refund and spent a fantastic weekend in a clean and guest-friendly hotel in Colonial Williamsburg.

The staff was very friendly, that and the view are the only bright things about the hotel. The prices are crazy considering the quality of the rooms and the fact there's no breakfast. When we walked into the room there was a huge red stain on the carpet and another by the bed. The tub didn't look like it had been wiped down at all. The pictures makes it look like the rooms have been redone, they have not. The water gets hot but the shower has calcium and iron stains, felt like a pressure washer and when I let the water run to get hot I ended up showing in a tub of standing water because it was not properly draining. The fan in the bathroom resulted and the tub when put in non drain mode made the weirdest noise. You can ask for late checkout but they won't allow for it.

We paid for a King Size/Superior View. The pictures showed that the room would have 2 windows but the room we got did not have 2 windows and did not have a very good view. Trees were blocking the view and the windows faced the side yard. We paid $260 including taxes for a room that was very comparable to a Budget Inn/Days Inn. We are very dissatisfied. The room was not what we expected at all. We didn’t expect the Ritz or anything but we did expect a good view and a clean room and did not receive either.

The towels smelled like perfume. The carpet looked like it hasn't been vacuumed. My family and I couldn't wait to get out of there. It's too bad cause it is a good location and a beautiful view of the water.

We had reservations for a King Bed Superior (with view of the river). They tried to put us in just a King Bed (with view of the parking lot). When we tried to get it fixed, they gave us another King room with balcony view of the River but when we opened the door the room was occupied by a couple, a woman giving a man a massage. Back down to the desk and the staff said that room is supposed to be vacant. There were no other King rooms available so we requested a refund and went home. Very disappointed. Never again.

Only good thing about this place is the view. I was supposed to be staying here for my wedding and within the first 2 hrs of being in our room we saw 3 roaches. I got my refund in under 2 minutes as this clearly was not the first time this has happened.

Peaceful, relaxing overlooking the bay. Taking in the Local luxurious colonial gardens on the way to Morning coffee or browsing local art. Grab the trolley to the victory center, lay on the beach or by the pool. Or just people watch. Thursday in the summer has live music on the green, farmers market on Saturday mornings... Close enough to Williamsburg if you want more shops. We really enjoy watching the storms come in in the late afternoons, dolphins swim by at tea time. Duke of York has the best vantage point .

We've been here for several days This is our second trip and we really enjoy it. Yes it is a bit dated but the owners have tried to make sure everyone is comfortable. Access to the beach is its biggest selling point you are literally across the street from the York River. If it's too hot or if unfortunately the jellyfish show up there is a pool on property that we took advantage of several times during our trip. We did speak with one of the hotel staff that said the new owners have big plans for renovations and that in the next year the hotel will be unrecognizable. We've enjoyed staying here staff has been super helpful super friendly and just all around pleasant to deal with, We do however look forward to the changes and hope to be back soon to partake of them.

My niece and I spent a long weekend at Duke of York (now known as Yorktown Beach Hotel) from August 5th through the 8th. We had 3 great nights with adjoining rooms and balconies on the riverfront. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was so great. The hotel has changed ownership and the new Owner/Operator is working hard to upgrade and make it a fun place to visit. My husband and I are returning in a couple of weeks for the Thursday night concert series. We'll enjoy the pool and restaurants, not to mention the concert with Slapnation! Thank you Matt and your staff for a great weekend.
