Gosh, I really wanted to like this place and was excited to check it out after a morning on the mountain, but I was utterly disappointed. I have worked in restaurants and now I sometimes write about them and so the fact that they refuse to make a regular Manhattan—no, you must order the special $35 reserve Manhattan—is really something else that I have not seen. To be clear: I am not opposed to spending $35 on an excellent cocktail though the drinks that actually merit that price are few and far between. You are a whiskey bar — you should be able to make a classic $20 Manhattan. Oh, and maybe don’t serve expensive whiskey in plastic cups!! This place is a total ripoff. Food was just ok. We ordered The Wurst, one of the raclette specialty dishes, and it was tasty if a bit stingy with ingredients. To be expected I suppose from a place that prefers to gouge people on drinks, and I say this as a New Yorker who is used to overpaying for everything (average beer price: $13. You are much better off going to Alchemist where you can get a pint of the most delicious beer for $6). TLDR: skip this place.

Absolutely loved this place, 10/10! Went there on Saturday and I booked my reservation in advance so that the table would be ready since they get pretty busy. The food is amazing, we got the humus platter and a steak that comes with the cheese that’s being baked in the fire place. They gave us free whiskey shots at 3 pm on a Saturday, as well as free desert!!!! I was shocked.. I’ve never gotten anything free from a restaurant before so that was new to me lol. The service is amazing, they also sat us down next to the fire stove so I couldn’t get my eyes away from it. Best experience ? Loved it, would come again !!!!

Whistlepig is stellar when it comes toin between food such as quick drinks, apps, and dessert. The bartender, who looked like Tom Brady performed swimmingly at his job. He was extremely friendly. The Kaiserschmarn was absolutely divine. “Best dessert i’ve ever had” -Christopher LaBrant, CT. “Heaven on a plate” -Amy LaBrant, CT. You’re transported to a bavarian log house with crackling fire and homey vibes. Wunderbar!Vegetarian options: Mac n Cheese, dessert, drinks

We love visiting here on our annual trip. The raclette is delicious! The nachos and pretzels are also great.

Awesome place but lacking a bit of hospitality and limited menu. It’s good but not great. I would definitely go again but only if I was craving some Raclette. Not to mention an old fashioned is $26 so if you’re trying to save money avoid this place at all costs.
Worst service we’ve had in Stowe since we’ve been here. (A year). Food was good but nobody was served at the same time (5 people). First person was served and next one came 40 mins later. This was the last meal we have with our guests before they head home and it was a disappointment as far as the service goes. Probably won’t be back which is kind of sad. The manager did come and apologize and made some amends which did help. Thank you for that! Upped my review because of that.
Full disclosure, I didn’t get to eat here. I was staying at the lodge and came for lunch, just myself. I stopped at the front and one of the staff asked me if I needed help. I said, yes, just a seat for one. He told me to hold on, should be one available shortly. Waited and waited, then they started seating other people ahead of me so I asked if they still thought I could get a seat. Oh, it’s communal seating, just find a seat. So I do, a spot at. A table that was just bussed and the waitress comes over and asks, is this just you? Yes I reply. Well you know it’s communal seating do you intend to sit there? I said yes but I’ll sit wherever you want me to, ma’am. She just shook her head and walked away. Sat there for a while longer, no menu, no waiter came. Just gave up. Super rude staff, would NOT recommend.

We stopped in after reading about this place online but we were not at all impressed. Our server was great, but waiting for 45 minutes for a pretzel and cheese that we saw sitting under a heat lamp for at least 25 minutes was beyond ridiculous considering there were only a handful of people in the restaurant. We really wanted to like it but didn't.

Is it a bit of a drive to get here? Yes. Is it worth the trip? ABSOLUTELY. The food was phenomenal, while they don’t have many choices, the few they do they make very well and many of the dishes they cook directly in the fire making this a unique culinary experience. The drinks are on the pricey side but unlike other places that boast craft cocktails yet don’t even know how to make a proper old fashioned, these are truly CRAFT cocktails and absolutely worth the cost and experience. The only downside is unlike the tasting room in Queechee, you cannot buy bottles here so you can’t take any location exclusive items home with you. Overall great dining experience highly recommend 10/10. Side note: the parking is outrageous here ($15 an hour, but they do validate if you spend $100 so come hungry and plan accordingly).

A raclette dish with on bite of raclette doesn’t cut it. Maybe we came on the wrong night? When selling a raclette, the raclette should be the main event, not a garnish.Otherwise it tasted great.
