This is one of my favorite spots to have breakfast! Though I had lunch here once too and that was very good too. I like everything I've tried from here but if anyone is a pancake-lover you have to come here for breakfast and order some pancakes! They're exceptionally good.

I’m from Mesquite, Texas and I was embarrassed for these folks. Bad collard greens and the red beans were garbage. The white fish was way too fishy. My microwave still smells like rotten fish after heating up the food when I got home because it was cold. 9 minute drive from my home. 55 dollars for fried catfish and white fish that tasted and smelled extremely pungent. Will not be coming back here.

I had a great time here ! The food was amazing and the service was awesome I tried a little of everything I could in 1 seating. My tea was being refilled before I was half way done like it should without having to ask. I felt welcomed and the food was fresh and the tea was sweet like it is supposed to be. I’m a southerner so I can 100% say my experience was awesome!

Let me preface with I came in on a Sunday around 2:30 and the place was busy with a steady flow of diners and take out orders. I was feeling so optimistic, now let's get real. The corncake and cornbread stuffing were most definitely the best things going. My original corncake came out with my meal and it was lukewarm and was still very good. They must have forgotten about my liver in the deep fryer or whatever they fried it in. The gravy made it worth it to keep working my way through the over cooked liver. I wish I would have taken a picture of the washed out, canned, not buttered corn, mushy rice and cold gravy. I didn't even try to hide the fact I didn't eat it.Thinking that perhaps I ordered the wrong things, I ordered the 6th Ave Platter, to go, with Cajun catfish, fried chicken, collards and cornbread stuffing. The cornbread stuffing and gravy was crazy good! My palate was pleased. The catfish was broken up into more like nuggets instead of strips, they were ok, lukewarm. The wing was cold and dry, the thigh was hot and moist, and the greens. The greens tasted like Glory Greens out of the can with some onions thrown in, same juice and everything. No amount of hot sauce or pickled pepper sauce was going to make them taste good or like anything other than Glory Greens. Maybe they ran out of they normally fix, but this was my first time there and I have nothing to compare them with. I don't know if I would have come on another day and when they first open, perhaps I'll have a different result. Not sure if I'll give them another try.The servers checked on the other diners profusely, and didn't inquire once about my meal. I think they knew they didn't serve me the best version of what the Southern Kitchen is supposed to be about.

Personally, the fried chicken, Mac and greens is my "go to" meal. The atmosphere and staff is friendly and makes you feel right at home. If you haven't tried it yet, stop on by!!

I am from Florida and I didn’t think I would ever find a place that would match my taste buds. They welcome you in like family and they are very friendly. Great customer service and I loved the liver and onions. The last time I came it was during COVID and I didn’t get to come in. I’m glad I came back.

Phenomenal experience. I really can't say enough good things. I'm from the South and have missed southern cookin'. The greens are better than my momma's. Shhhhhh - don't tell her.

We had Southern Kitchen cater an event at our university attended by current students, alumni and faculty. The owner, Gloria, was available to answer questions and offer advice as we planned. The day of the event, our order was delivered and set-up by friendly restaurant employees. And the food--catfish strips, chicken wings, collards, Mac & cheese, candied yams, red beans and rice, and corn muffins--was devoured and appreciated so much. Great food and service. We are grateful for this local, internationally known institution in Tacoma, WA.
