Butter chicken was incredible, definitely the best I’ve ever had. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with Indian food but the seasonings were perfect and the spice (I got “hot”) was right where I like it. Naan was also to die for. I’m not sure what the three dishes our appetizer, one green one red and a brown sauce, but they were also very good. The red, maybe onions or tomatoes, was pretty spicy.I went around 1pm on a Thursday, not too many people there which was perfect. Our servers were nice and appropriately attentive. Final price for butter chicken + garlic naan was $23. I will definitely be bringing friends here in the future.

I have ordered take out here several times and have had pretty decent experiences with the food. I like that the prices seem to be a little bit cheaper than other Indian restaurants nearby.However, I ordered online at 2:19pm and when I went to go pick it up, the 2 women who were behind the bar were pretty rude, didn’t say hello back when I said hi first, and were almost glaring at me.Basic decency goes a long way, and this location is close to me but something about that interaction really bothered me and I will probably go try another restaurant next time, even if it is more expensive.I’m not sure what their issue was because they were just staring at me with deadpan eyes right after I had entered the restaurant and had greeted them first.

So they employ there were very rude i don’t know the reason but may be we went around the closing time also she banged the menu book on our table and the food was very very very less in quantity poor taste like even non Indian will cook better food then what it was the Paratha was like ? and very bad experience!!!!!!!!

The food is incredible!!!! I moved to Madison 2 years ago from the desert southwest and Maharani's is the first place that has electrified my taste buds!! The food here is absolutely incredible. I had dinner with a group of 4 and we were all sharing each other's plates and ordering more to go around. Makes for great leftovers for lunch the next day too. I don't think one could order anything bad on the menu here.The service was a little slow, but nothing where I couldn't get ahold of a waiter if needed. I did see some reviews about people complaining about the wait staff. I had no issues and chalked it up to in the Midwest, a place where it seems people are very friendly and give pleasantries to no end, it may come off as a bit rude when someone isn't smiling and saying "you're welcome" at every interaction. I will definitely be going back to Maharani.
We had a negative experience here a couple years ago, but thought we'd give it another try since we live close by and love Indian food. But it was worse this time. The 3 sauces that came with the crackers as appetizers had gone bad. Not slightly bad - very bad. The brown sauce actually had fermentation bubbles in it. I politely told our waitress and said we wanted to send it back. She glared at me with fury, then reluctantly took it. No apology. No fresh replacement. The meal was mediocre. We had to track someone down and ask when we needed take out boxes and the bill. We won't go back.
