I like Pastiche for its traditional French menu. I had the cassoulet, which was good, but was really rich. I realize that cassoulet is rich to begin with, but the dish seemed a little under-warm so some of the pieces of skin didn't appear to have melted into the stew. I suspect it's a complicated dish, but I didn't love it at Pastiche. Lots of other great French dishes to try there.
We had a lovely dinner here--mussels and French onion soup for starters, then frites, steak salad, and salad nicoise as entrees. Everything was perfectly done, and the frites were, according to my frites-obsessed hubby, exactly right. I even had enough steak to take home for lunch. Service was excellent, and I loved the 20s vibe of the hotel and the French music playing. We didn't have cocktails, but they looked delightful going past us. this is my all-time favorite hotel in Milwaukee. I've stayed here 3 times and each time have had a pleasant experience. the suites are huge, with a cool curved half-wall separating the bedroom from the living room. they have a keurig, along with a wide selection of mini bar items, should you want a $3 snickers. the bathroom has all Aveda products, a HUGE plus. all the rooms have giant tubs, some with jets. this was our first time ordering room service from the French restaurant...read full review
