Food was great and service was good, except we weren't informed of the .85 cents extra for each sauce. When we mentioned it to the waiter to ask the manager if there was anything that could be done, he came back and said no. We mentioned we were from Kentucky and don't normally have to pay for extra sauce and if we do, they clearly state that it's extra He said he's never been anywhere he didn't have to pay extra for sauce. We stay at the wonderful hotel next door, but won't be returning to eat there again over an .85 cent extra sauce.

Wanting to start this review by saying we were tropics regulars for over 3 years. Went there weekly, had our rehearsal dinner there for our wedding, the works. Our first very off putting experience was in December. It was me, my husband, his best man, and my best friend. We had dinner in the dining area and then after our dinner we played in the arcade for awhile. My best friend and myself decided to go to bar to get a drink. The bartender asked to see our IDs which we had no problems with as we are both 25+. She then stated we needed TWO forms of IDs since we are “so young” and wouldn’t serve us if we didn’t show two forms (we had drinks with our dinner in the dining room and didn’t even get carded). Luckily I had my passport on me as she stated she wouldn’t be able to take a debit card as a second form of ID. Once that got settled, My best friend asked for a recommendation of alcohol as she doesn’t like shots and the bartender was not helpful or warm whatsoever. Handed her the menu and said she’d come back after she looked at the drinks they had. When you google their restaurant it says they are open until midnight. However we were there and in the arcade and the manager on duty rather rudely told us that once the game (football) was over they were closing and we had to leave (it was only around 10 at this point). After that experience, we stopped coming and decided to take a break from there. We came back tonight after a several month break and were disappointed again. We got there around 9 (after I checked their hours again and it says they are open till 12AM) we get there and they say their grill is shut off and we can only get appetizers??? We were literally looking forward to eating chicken but we got appetizers (bar tender did not ask to see my ID no less say that I NEEDED to show her two forms). Their spin dip is the best around and the wings are very very good so it wasn’t a problem to get our dinner via the appetizer menu. Our server checked on us one time about 10 minutes after the food runner brought our food out. After she refilled our drinks she didn’t come back until she asked if we were ready for our check. Their door does say they are open until CLOSE but they fail to tell you when close is. We wouldn’t have driven the 30 minutes if we knew we couldn’t get real food.In the parking lot my husband looked at me and said “This place has really lost its magic.” Which is true and makes me sad as we would always tip the price of the bill (waitress Maddie is amazing and we love her), had our rehearsal dinner there, and took all of us friends there. We used to love tropics and always recommended it but don’t see ourselves coming back anytime soon.

10 stars! The fact that there are any 1 stars on here makes me feel bad for those people who left the review, cause nothing can make them happy. If you had any reason during a visit here and you brought it up to the staff they’d make it better. They go above and beyond to ensure the food and atmosphere is top notch! Great atmosphere, great food, great experience!

If there was a way to put 6 stars I would, this place hits right on many different levels; food, drink, atmosphere, staff, etc.

Least impressed I've been at a restaurant in a long time. It started with my soda served in a plastic cup...Plastic! So was everyone's drink to include water. Plastic cup!!!My French Onion soup was delivered in excessive broth, little cheese, extra hard croutons, "diced" onions, and a Hawaiian flower on the side. Fair, not good, definitely not delicious.Dinner: $28 Grilled salmon, large portion, no brown markings that would indicate grilled, vague seasoning, covered with plenty of season sprouts that looked like clovers. The carrots, asparagus, and green beans were good! I paid additional for the "Truffle Fries"/steak fries that were not as described. Hardly any cheese; I couldn't see it-- they were not "covered." Bacon was plentiful, but it had nothing to stick to the fries. I wished I would have saved and taken the mashed potatoes.I had a slice of my nephew's pizza, heavily topped, no seasoning. It was like eating 'blah'. Four persons had endless crab legs, and were they endless! I couldn't believe the amounts they were served. I started to order them, but after living seven years in Baltimore, no one can compare. Not New Orleans nor DC, where I also lived for thirty-two years. Unlike Baltimore, the legs had no seasoning on them.I was disappointed. The crab leg consumers were not-- they never lived in Baltimore. The atmosphere was nice. A dining room where the seventeen of us absorbed all the low tables in the center. A video screen casino off to the left and a complete game room to the right with an ice cream bar that captivated the youth. The location couldn't be better. Chet Lake, West VA, where Route 79 meets Route 68 (right before Maryland) and Route 43 (right before Pennsylvania)-- major highway travel. One hour from Pittsburgh. It was my family's third appearance there, my first. I hope not to return, but will for a family outing. There is a neighboring Burger King.Lastly, the evening ended in complete embarrassment as a nephew and great niece grew louder and more vulgar in argument as the staff politely and professionally separated them and ended the confrontation.SORRY TROPICS....!!!

Been here twice so far and we all LOVE TROPICS! The food is amazing, great place for birthdays or any kind of celebration. Delicious drinks and they have an ice cream parlor within their arcade. There's stuff for people of all ages to enjoy here! Just stay clear of the grumpy older guy that sometimes works the ice cream/arcade. He was the only downside. Everyone else were very sweet and helpful!
