“Great experience with Greek-inspired bowls. The meats in a salad bowl keeps things "light".This location can get pretty crowded and the chairs can be difficult to pull in/out. Squeezing between chairs can be tricky.Neighborhood was fun and felt safe here (early evening).“

“Great wine, food and atmosphere. One salad is more than enough for two people. We got the Retsina wine which was off the hook, soft, velvety and delicious. We got the soup which was reminiscent of Tom Kha in a way and also delicious. Greek fries and lamb salad were also made just right and the food was brought out so quickly. The location is nice and romantic in a way. My wife and I enjoyed the experience very much. Thank you Souvla!“

“Amazing restaurant. Menu recently changed but everything we ordered was fantastic. Extensive wine list to complement the food. The owner, Emra, and his wife are so attentive and hospitable. Can't recommend this restaurant enough. Truly a hidden gem in the Richmond.“

“My recent experience with the chicken Shawarma at Cafe Elena was nothing short of extraordinary. Each bite of the Shawarma was a revelation, with the chicken succulent and juicy, perfectly complemented by crisp and refreshing vegetables. The flavors melded beautifully, transitioning seamlessly from the sensation of sipping the delicious sauce to savoring each bite of the grilled chicken. The special spicy sauce, a homemade recipe, added a delightful kick without overwhelming the dish, creating a harmonious explosion of flavors. It was a near-religious experience that left me eagerly anticipating my next visit. If you're downtown and in the mood for Shawarma, look no further than Café Elena. Trust me, it's the only place you need to go for a truly satisfying Shawarma experience.“

“This is the perfect spot for a cozy and romantic date night before a show at the Masonic. We shared the mixed grill plate and it was more than enough meat for two people — would highly recommend this plate, as you can try four different types of meat, including the keftedes, adana, lamb, and chicken. It only comes with a single serving of rice though, so if splitting between two you may want to order an additional side.My personal favorite meat was the lamb brochette, though everything was seasoned well and tasted great. The real star of the meal, however, was the warm grape leaves appetizer, with rice and tzatziki sauce that packed a ton of flavor. Don’t forget to squeeze the lemon on top!We ordered the melitzano puree as well (it comes with pita bread), but it was a bit bland and not as puréed as we expected (it wasn’t the consistency of a dip). We’ll skip this one next time and replace it with an order of that delicious tzatziki sauce!Excellent selection of wine, but be prepared that there’s no beer or cocktails. The staff was extremely attentive and very kind — they went out of their way to check in and brought us the food in time for our comedy show.A quick 10 minute walk after dinner (be prepared, it’s uphill) and we were at the steps of the Masonic. This is definitely a restaurant to try if you’re looking for something hearty yet romantic. We had no problem getting a table for two as a walk-in, and will definitely be back soon.“

“March 2023: This gem of a place is still here, post pandemic (if there is such a thing), and their service and food is top notch! Please drop by and show some love, chicken salad comes with a lot of protein and is fairly priced for the area.Old review: I had a hunkering for Mediterranean-style cooked meat and fries. This place hit that spot.Located in FIDI on Battery (between Pine and Battery/Bush intersection). Went at noon and the place was busy but not overwhelmingly so. Slight wait for my food after ordering but that's expected at noon.Food was good and reasonably priced. Ordered the Greek plate with chicken. Came with a bunch of fries, meat, a big dollop of tzhiki (sp?) sauce and some pita bread. It was good.I'll be back to try a salad next time. 3.6 stars that rounds up to 4 stars for the service.“

“Living in the Sierra foothills, I don't get much opportunity for Mediterranean food so was craving it this SF evening. When I walked into NB Gyros, I smelled that unmistakable but unfortettable aroma of grilled meat so I ordered their grill sampler. I also ordered an appetizer of baba ganoush and a cold Stella Artois. The baba ganoush arrived quickly and I devoured it. I'm no expert but this was so delicious and I wanted more. Next, the grilled sampler came and I was amazed at how much food was included. There were two varieties of chicken, beef, kofte, and lamb, rice, salad and pita. All the meats were flavorful and had that delicious char I was looking for. The chicken was a little overcooked and dry but still delicious. I couldn't finish this big platter so was offered a take-away box, which I gladly accepted.I know I'll return because the service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was open and welcoming and the food was delicious!“

“I ordered a Gyros Platter, and it was ready promptly and fresh and tasty. My office is near by, and I'll be returning hear regularly. I especially like the extra creamy slightly olive oil heavy hummus. I make my own hummus and I can't get it this good.“

“This place is delicious. They have the best gyros - both veggie (falafel) and lamb. The pita is fresh and super soft and fluffy and the the filling is perfectly seasoned. Their hummus is really creamy and yum as well. They're also usually pretty quick, so makes for a convenient lunch/evening pickup.
Kid-friendliness: There are games and picnic benches with plenty of space around to play.“

“My go to place. Literally down to go here anytime all the time. It’s healthy, tasty, and comfy. Everything is good but I’ve made it a traditional to eat the fries dipped in their olive oil yoghurt. Dine in sitting inside is a bit lame/sterile but the back patio is lovely and even cozier on chillier nights with maybe a glass of wine. Service is always friendly and fast.“

“Was walking by and decided to try it. The server could have been a little more friendly. Or helped me decide on what to order. I ordered a combo plate lamb and beef gyros, and it came with rice salad and pita bread.Atmosphere would have been better if there was a screaming child.Other than that, I will recommend.“

“One of our favorite chains in sf! Delicious salads and lots of protein options from chicken to vegetarian.
Dietary restrictions: Lots of options for veg and gluten free (gf)
Parking: Hayes is always a bit busy, but free 2 hour parking all around.
Wheelchair accessibility: No problem to enter with wheelchair, other than common SF tightness.“

“Delicious food and friendly staff! The falafel bowls and pitas here are tastier than any you can find in the city. The ingredients are top quality and the ratio of toppings and sauces is always perfect. Always happy when I have the chance to stop by.“
“I love this tiny delicious place. I found it when I attended the San Francisco Paramedic Association that used to be on Mission. The gyros and fries are amazing. I dont get to the city often as of late but Im so glad Ayola survived through the pandemic. So good!“

“EXCELLENT food!!! I was craving a kebab and stumbled onto this place. I got the sampler with a chicken and lamb kebab. I was floored by the baba ghanouj and falafel. Wonderful flavor and perfect crunch in the falafel. I think I’ve found my new favorite restaurant!!“
“I can't say anything about the inside of the restaurant since I had Uber eats deliver from 8mile. It was my first time having detroit style pizza. So my expectations were super high. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. I went with the classic pepperoni and had them add extra garlic. It was delicious next time I'm in San Francisco I will have to stop by.“

“Even if they are a part of chain , they were able to stay in the quality line. I like the meat combo wrap and fries. Lokumades is always fresh but don't forget to ask extra sauce honey, everytime needs extra sweetness soaked into the warm dough to enjoy. I like their frozen yogurt - added baklava and honey if you pay 1$ ekstra.“

“Lovely place. Delicious food and great, interesting cocktails in a warm, inviting environment. We had a very nice brunch and I can't wait to come back. Finally got to try Shakshuka (which I saw on the Real Housewives of NY, haha). It was very tasty! ?“
