“Incredible birthday dinner. Very welcoming host and informative sushi chef. Highly recommend this special gem to anyone. We did the smaller 9 nigiri tasting menu and it was plenty. I did receive the unagi nigiri as a complimentary birthday treat but I’m not sure if they normally do this. Every dish had unique flavors. Fish was imported from Japan and Hawaii primarily. Ambiance was quaint and lovely.Highly recommend this special omakase spot!
Vegetarian options: They have an entire vegetarian / vegan omakase!!“

“Omg this is by far the best set menu Japanese restaurant I have ever been to in the U.S. The service is phenomenal and friendly. The food is by far the best! Excellent quality fish and combination. There were items I don’t even like like sea urchin and eel but here they were great! Amazing experience and I will definitely come back.“

“We first dined in here when it opened back in May 2022. We don't often find ourselves in this part of the city so it took us a bit to return., this time for takeout. We remember what we missed - it was the quality of the handrolls. Fresh fish and excellent combinations. Even take out was good. Nothing lost on the experience!“

“I've eaten sushi regularly for the last 35 years. Fresh fish is a must. Kuma simply has the highest quality fish there is. Great food, great service. Uni from Hokkaido, or Maine or Canada. Decisions Decisions. If you are a sushi nut, go to Kuma, you won't be disappointed.“

“This sushi place is simply outstanding! The food is spectacular! It’s an authentic Japanese sushi, not an American version of sushi. The place is not cheap but it’s worth every dollar! Great place for a special occasion! Highly recommended!“

“This place does not disappoint. Chef’s choice nigiri was truly excellent, house salad was also superb. Even the ice cream was just a cut above what you’d generally get from a cute urban sushi joint. Timing of courses was great—no long waits for anything and no sense of being rushed. Genuinely warm and friendly service with good recommendations. What a gem.“

“It’s a good stable family restaurant that serves the Bernal height resident. I wouldn’t consider it as an izakaya though, they are lack of that vibe. It’s kids friendly and the day we went, there are 7 kids inside the restaurant. Be prepared for a lot of screams and avoid dinning hour/Friday night if you are scared of kids. The food is decent, not the best I had in town but it is alright. We ordered cheesecake and they gave us ice cream on the house, so that was really nice :)“

“An amazing omakase experience in SF and reasonably priced. All the sushi was so fresh and paired well with the different flavors. Even their non-sushi dishes were wonderful and their ice dessert was amazing. Make a reservation because they’re very small and fill up quickly“

“A phenomenal omakase experience. The customer service and food is top notch. Recommended for either those who fly solo or are looking for an intimate dinner date. Not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for; which, in this case, is the quality and experience. Reservations are recommended since there are only 12 to 16 seats - walk in without a reservation at your own risk. Will be visiting again at some point.“

“MUST visit omakase restaurant in San Francisco! This is a perfect omakase restaurant that deserves a rating higher than five stars. Our chef is incredibly passionate and friendly, and the service staff are also very accommodating. The overall dining atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing.Everything was handled perfectly and the seasoning of seafood, allowed us to taste the natural sweetness of the ingredients. It's a truly amazing dining experience! Would definitely revisit again!“

“I absolutely adore the ambiance and the gentle lighting here!My friend and I were both smitten with the Okra Yamaimo dish to the extent that we ordered a second one! Since she's a vegetarian, we skipped the fish, but they do offer a variety of fish from Japan. (I'm really looking forward to returning to try their omakase! It seemed like everyone was ordering it, and it looked absolutely delicious.)The service was friendly and attentive!I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit to sample their Japanese fish offerings!“

“San Francisco, you gotta love that city, what a vibe, every neighborhood has its unique charm. In one of the neighborhoods you will find Shoshin Sushi, a very nice, cozy, authentic, small restaurant. The food is not out of this world but definitely with its own charm. I loved the makis but wasn’t very fond of the carpaccios, the sauce is flat and does not bring out the flavor of the fish much.On the other hand, the makis were all very good, the Naruto is one that you should particularly try, spicy tuna with avocado wrapped in a cucumber sheet with ponzu and olive oil, very refreshing. The place has a nice atmosphere with very friendly people, enjoy ?“

“The most procured omakase experience that I've tried in the Bay Area. Ken and Chef Ono were both relaxed and focused at the same time, making the 3 hour experience felt too short. We wished it lasted for longer. Every course was immaculately designed and of the utmost quality. Hashiri remains our favorite place for omasake.“

“been here twice now and both times I received excellent recommendations from Lina; she was very friendly. The first time, I tried the beef eno, crunchy spider, Potrero, and dragon roll - those are all I remember. This time, 4 of us were recommended the nigiri sampler because we wanted to try something special and Lina didn’t make us disappointed. The place is nice, but it's cool even sitting inside.“

“I love this place and don't go as often as I should. It is far less pretentious than any of the other sushi places in this neighborhood. It's owned by a lovely couple that are very friendly, which gives off a very cozy atmosphere. One knock I have on the sushi is that the rolls can sometimes be a little loosely rolled, which can make them fall a part while trying to eat them. Barring that, the rolls themselves are very flavorful, as well as being pretty affordable. They have a good mixture of cheap sushi rolls as well as more pricey specialty rolls. The dragon roll is one of my favorites and I get it pretty much every time I go in. Monkey roll is also another one I get frequently.I tend to prefer sushi over sashimi or nigiri, so I can't really comment on any of those.“

“Hands down best sushi I’ve had. Really glad I tried this experience. It was so good I forgot to take pictures of a majority of it. “Came here on a Tuesday night with my coworkers without a reservation. Great for large groups and it was walking distance from the grand Hyatt on Stockton. Very walkable and didn't feel dangerous at night. We had 12 people total. Food was good. Overall less than 800 for 12 people which is not bad. They had no issues with separating the alcohol bill for each person.“

“Food was great and staff are polite. You order on an iPad and bring your food out to you, which was to use easy and convenient.Too much plastic waste for dine in orders though. Trash can was overflowing from disposable containers thrown out by customers exiting the restaurant.“

“Ordered sushi and a salmon donburi here, it was delicious and the fish was excellent quality. The owner was very sweet and you could tell he put a ton of consideration into preparing the dishes. It’s all take out, though there is one small seating area outside. Some of the best sushi / donburi I’ve had in sf, highly recommend!“

“Saru Handroll provided a delightful dining experience with an array of handroll sushi options, including Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, and Cucumber & Plum. The miso soup, edamame, and hot buckwheat tea complemented the meal perfectly in a stylish, modern setting.Noteworthy were the pre-meal wet tissue towels, a thoughtful touch for cleaning our hands after savoring the handroll sushi. However, it’s important to note that the set menu did not allow for substitutions. Minus one star off - as the sets have crab and shrimp; no sub-options available for people with seafood allergies.Despite this, Saru Handroll proved to be a charming spot suitable for various occasions, whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or gathering with friends and family. I recommend it for both the flavors and the ambiance.“

“Amazing find! Quick counter service or grab and go items available (bento, rice balls, bowls / donburi). Selection features many classic Japanese flavors using local ingredients.Combinations vary or you can pick out items à la carte, but everything is worth it and delicious. We got combos and added items to have a feast that did not break the bank. Our meals easily could have cost $30.I highly recommend the agedashi tofu (veg main), mapo eggplant salad (with chicken or the vegetarian version), potato croquette, shrimp cake (huge but with whole shrimps and cooked to perfection). I would definitely return to try out their curry ? options (beef or mushroom) and possibly any seasonal changes.Service was amazing with all condiments and utensils provided with proper packaging. Service was quick despite a slight lunch weekday rush.No seating in the space itself, but plenty of shared outdoor tables or a few chairs near windows inside near Cholita Linda.
Vegetarian options: At least one vegetarian salad (Japanese side dish), soup, or main available. On my visit, they were vegetarian mapo eggplant salad (possibly other options, I did not look closely at selection), ginger carrot soup, and agedashi tofu main (cold tofu with soy based and mushroom sauce). Mushroom curry was also available.“

“Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Good service, excellent food and terrific cocktails.
Parking: Avoid it on game nights But it's very easy to get to with Muni
Kid-friendliness: It's not great for kids, because it's smallish and noise echoes.
Wheelchair accessibility: Most of the first level is wheelchair accessible“

“Sat at counter and Gary was awesome! Always fun watching a pro work and the service was top notch! Standouts were the Hokkaido uni (twice!) and toro done wimpy but perfect and all the small touches on the other nigiri definite showed care and respect. Finishing with a5 waygu with shaved cold foie gras wasnt shabby either. The $209 was definitely to much food and I passed on the miso soup which wife said was a little sweet (I got a bonus Santa Barbara uni as a bonus!).“
