The place has undergone some renovations, and it's definitely an improvement. They've removed the bulletproof glass and made some upgrades overall. I've also noticed a significant improvement in the quality of their meats, which has encouraged me to become a regular at Hong Kong Carryout. It's a great addition to the lineup of affordable Chinese food options.

Best Chinese delivery I've had in DC...wonton soup is excellent (the wontons are robust and delicious); lo mein has actual proper veggies (includes bean sprouts and napa cabbage, not just coarse chopped carrots and onions like you find at other places). I'm looking forward to exploring more on the menu :)

I think that this is a healthier option for Chinese food. To me the seasoning was not like other Chinese food restaurants which I prefer the fatty or unhealthy brand. I would recommend it if you are looking for something a little healthier but if you want some Chinese food no This is not it for me.

Not sure how this place could have 4 Stars - nothing I've tried is redeeming, not the wonton soup, nor the dumplings, nor the Kung Pao Chicken. The owners and staff are friendly though, even behind the bullet-proof partition. Watch out M-F around 2-4p when the nearby public school lets out and the place is invaded by teenagers who will ask for money and do their best to intimidate adults for no reason at all.

Their mumbo sauce is GREAT — highly recommend the steak and cheese egg roll or the mumbo fried chicken wings. Only knock is they are cash only but other than that, really like ordering from them. Food is prepared very quickly and always fresh.

I think some of the reviews on here are due to user error. At a place like this, you should expect greasy Americanized Chinese food. You should order something fried. Like sweet and sour chicken or general tso shrimp. And an egg roll on the side. 5 stars for giving me exactly what I expected and needed after a hard day. Fried comforting Chinese food.
