i love marx cafe. the coffee is so good. the bartender is hot in a scary way. what will she do to me? seems like it'll either be nothing or something i'll never recover from. 9/10
This has been a neighborhood staple for a long time but seems to have slipped into mediocrity. Service and staff were helpful and friendly but food is not what it was- for example the taramaslata that was previously a real star was very mayo forward and light on the cod roe. Marx Cafe is a Mount Pleasant gem. I often pop in for a quick dinner and always leave happy. (Tip: Get the avgolemono soup and ask for black pepper!) The menu is reasonably priced, and the staff are all great. Yes, the space is small and often crowded, especially when the live jazz band performs, but that's part of the charm.
