“We had an excellent meal of soft shelled crab along with sushi and sashimi platters. The fish was fresh, the texture perfect, the variety of sashimi was very good. The only think missing was the daikon, they use cucumber in its place. Crab was very tasty. The restaurant is a small, cozy place. I'd go back or recommend without hesitation.“

“First time in and this place is so cute! They did an excellent job decorating to make it feel more authentic. Our chef was nice but seemed very young… he tried to make small talk with us but we were surprised when he brought up some pretty controversial subjects. The soup and salad were just okay, soup didn’t have great flavor and salad was a little watery. The beef fried rice was excellent and the meat was all cooked pretty well. I don’t like how they piled all the food together on one little plate and how they cooked the veggies first, it would have been nice to eat them with the rest of the meal. The chef was very quick with everything, it wasn’t a show like I thought it would be at Benihana, it was more like quick cook all your food and then leave. My favorite part was the ice cream. The green tea ice cream was excellent!! The other staff who grabbed water and boxed up the leftovers, they were all very nice. Overall I don’t think the price matched the experience. It’s okay to have inflated prices if the quality matches but unfortunately I don’t feel the quality was high enough for the price. If you have money to burn then for sure I would recommend checking out but I can’t say I would recommend this place to those on a budget.“

“Got here before 5pm and the place was empty, which was nice. Got seated right away and after reviewing the menu, went with Hokkaido Cha-Shu Ramen and small order of Karrage.Chicken was perfectly fried, only had few pieces and took the rest home because I wanted to enjoy the ramen. Now, I'm not a fan of miso ramen, but their version was better than what I had expected and had in many other joints in the states. I was bit lost with the two potato wedges they threw in there and the cha-shu was bit dried unfortunately.Service was awesome, water got filled w/o me asking and food came out quickly. The place got busy after 5pm and by the time I left, all the tables were occupied. Would recommend you visit before the dinner rush.“

“Don't sleep on this place that's on the other side of O-Hare. The sushi & sashimi are fantastic, everything was mouthwatering from the fatty tuna to the sea urchin apps, and of course the rolls, we had some classic rolls, as well as signature ones with tuna and mango and softshell crab rolls. (and the kids loved the donkatsu, thankfully they haven't discovered sushi, yet!)“

“Our favorite restaurant for sushi in Lake Forest and surrounding area.Great service, quiet and comfortable seating area. We usually sit at the bar and chat with Alvaro and order three or four items - usually guoza, shumi, a couple of rolls and salmon negiri.Sea bass, wagyu burgers, sushi pizza, and udon soup round out our list of regular alternatives. Also, they also have a nice outdoor dining area.Highly recommended.“

“We go literally every other week. The food is great, the price is great and the service is great. Does it get busy? Yes! Will things slow down a bit? Sure! Is it worth it? It’s why we keep going back!!! The sushi lunch option is a sure guarantee with a side of soba! YUM!!!“

“Don't be fooled by the appearance! Behind the modest dining area with 3 tables and a narrow counter is hiding an amazing Japanese chef who is not only brilliant in delivering the highest quality of sushi and sashimi, cooking delightful hot dishes but also pays close attention to the presentation of his creations. My sashimi selection was delightful and miso soup very tasty. The nice nod to the classic Japanese cuisine was a delicious assortment of Japanese pickles. My husband loved the incredible dressing of the house salad, the right consistency of the egg rolls, and the freshness of the shrimp tempura roll. He was particularly fond of the rich flavor of his gyoza. Kelly made us feel very welcome at her restaurant. We cannot wait to be back at this hidden gem! Bravo, Akira-San! Save our table“

“Great welcome by hostesses even though we arrived before opening time; she sat us immediately. The Rolls and Sashimi are standard good. Server was not very knowledgeable of menu. Our friends do know the place and ordered a “black rice” that is different. Had a nice bottle of Gruner wine. Overall a good experience“

“Every time I dine in at Izakaya Sankyu, I walk out full and happy! For the longest time, Kitakata was my favorite places for Japanese appetizers and drinks, as well as the occasional "comfort food" entrée, and I was sad when they closed. There still a number of places that filled in the gap, but I feel like Izakaya Sankyu is the one that checks the most boxes. They have lots of great small bites to share with friends like kushiyaki, takoyaki, tempura fried croquettes, fresh & pickled veggies, sautéed butter mushrooms, dumplings (their gyoza was shumai had a fantastic crisp to them), seared / roasted meats (the unagi and beef were great), crispy chicken wings, maki, and they had my personal favorites - chazuke bowls, zosui bowls, and Osaka-style okonomiyaki!Pair these with soju cocktails (the sparkling hard yuzu-ade was awesome), $5 Asahi cans, Sapporo samplers, a huge selection of sake, and several varieties of Japanese and western whisky for a fun time. If it's not time to get crunk, they have teas, sodas, and virgin cocktails. If you're particularly hungry, you can fill up on excellent udon, ramen, soba, and a good variety of dinner entrées. I particularly enjoyed their grilled seafood, their Japanese spin on Korean buchimgae (chijimi?), and their generous chirashi. I've had a few bites of their teriyaki dinners, and they seemed on point as well.I wish I lived closer to Izakaya Sankyu, as their food and service was top notch. If you go by their recommendations or take advantage of their daily specials, you can enjoy a lot of food and drinks for reasonable prices while spending quality time with friends and family. I felt a little bad we took up our table for so long, but the staff seemed to enjoy serving us (and it probably didn't hurt leaving a generous tip afterward). On the flip-side, I suppose if they were TOO close by, I could kiss my diet goodbye; their izakaya fare is almost too inviting and tasty, I'd have trouble eating too much! No joke, I could probably eat three plates of okonomiyaki in a single sitting. :D“

“It was my first time here and wow, it was so good! I need to try the other dishes, but the Beef Yakiniku Donburi was so delicious!!! The dish has butter corn and beef in a garlic bbq sauce. I also ordered the Plain Bob Ramen with Torino broth, which taste the same from Torino Restaurant. The place is small but there's one large table. It's a great place for take out as their containers are perfect. Can't wait to try this place again!“

“Tokyo Bowl is one of Vernon Hills' hidden gems. It's tucked away in a strip mall off of Townline Road. Ever since I was a child, I've always asked my parents to take me here for a special lunch. Now, it's my go-to spot for sushi dates. Every dish on the menu is beautifully crafted and undeniably delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone who is a fan of Asian cuisine. If you're someone who doesn't like sushi, you should try the Korean cup-bop or the ramen instead. My favorite dishes are the mango ramen, rainbow roll, and beef cup-bop. I'd like to personally thank the business owner for being such a gentleman and providing the best possible service to all of his customers for the many, many years. You are appreciated!“

“Ordered takeout from Nobori for an outing. Nothing fancy, just California Rolls, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura rolls. All were excellent. Very tasty and fresh. I ordered during a busy dinner time and they still were ready very quick. I will be back to try the harder to make items.... Five stars.“

“This spot is a hidden gem. I ordered the hand roll bento box which was two giant hand rolls and a half portion of udon soup. It was the perfect amount and affordable at $18. The fish was so fresh and the hand roll was delicious. The udon noodles are made in house, which you can totally feel when you eat them. Chewy, perfect consistency and fresh. The broth was amazing. Only 4 not 5 stars because their crab rolls are imitation but the fish is so fresh, honestly, who cares.“

“A very unexpected gem we found right in downtown Des Plaines! Honestly was not expecting much as we live in Downtown Chicago, but this place was surprisingly delicious. The bulgogi was a hit with the kids.. just mixed a little of the broth with the veggies and meat in rice and the kids just ate it up! We ordered both rolls and nigiri and they were fresh.. not overly seasoned or sweet like so many other establishments. The hamachi is definitely top grade. The service was very attentive and the quality of the food impressed.. We will definitely be back!“

“I came here for a pick up order. Had the steak bowl and chicken bowl. The bowls were very tasty. I particular the steak which I really enjoyed. The steak had a grilled taste and was marinated perfectly. The bowls came with a cup of miso soup which was not watered down like many other places. I initially felt bad ordered 10 minutes before closing but the young lady working behind the register and owner were very nice and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant had a Chipolti fell to it but much brighter and less sterile. For a quick lunch or dinner, this is a great spot centrally located in Wilmette downtown. I will definitely be coming back.“

The serving sizes are so generous and the food is so fresh and clean, not greasy. Its the BEST! You have to give it a try!“

“Food was delicious and they had so many choices. Our server was nice. Some of our food didn't even come out until the rest of us were almost done but we went during lunch so maybe they didn't have the staff that day. Would live to go again soon.“

“Very lovely place - beautiful decor, and attentive service. Easy parking. We enjoyed the agadashi tofu appetizer and three sushi rolls. All were very good. We like our 'spicy' rolls to be a little spicier, but otherwise excellent! Prices are reasonable for this type of cuisine in this area. Drink menu was very broad - something for everyone. There was even a free one-bite appetizer! Enjoyed our evening.“

“We've been coming here or taking out since the beginning. No idea why I hadn't reviewed before. The ramen is very good. I personally like the creative ones like the yuzu citrus broth ramen, but the traditional is great as well. The cucumber salad hits the spot. The bao buns are delicious and I like that they are priced per unit so we can decide what we want. The sushi is solid, though I don't thik I would go there just to get sushi. Good cocktail program, fast service, and of course, the vibe is nice too. Authentically Japanese, tonight we were reminded of our visit to "Ramen street" in the Tokyo metro station a year ago.“

“We absolutely the food, service, and vibe at Jimoto and have been here a number of times. Last night we went with friends (& fellow sushi-lovers) who experienced Jimoto for the first time. They also loved it and swore to return soon. We went for the "Happy Hour" and were happy we did. We ate our weight in sushi rolls and cucumber salad. It was a very nice, delicious, and moderately-priced dinner, even with six glasses of wine and a beer. We will be back soon; Happy Hour or not.“

“I am not local, this is a regular go-to place for a friend, so when I visit with her, she wants to bring me. I had a Chinese Eggplant with chicken dish, flavorful and spicy. Also had some nigiri sushi, all very good. The Black Tobiko was plentiful and fresh. The Tamago and Inari, which are types of sushi that are deceptively simple seeming but really show a chef's knowledge and artistry, were excellent. I'm sure I will go again.“

“I'm sorry, it was damn near perfect. Believe it or not it was my first time. The ambiance was perfect. I had a business meeting. It was so conducive to what we were trying to accomplish that we probably over stayed our welcome.lol Even so, no one was rushing us out the door. I don't remember the name of the dish. It was a curry dish with vegetables and catfish, very delicious. We did start with the shrimp spring rolls. Being a pescatarian I don't always have those options. If you're in the Rogers Park/Edgewater area this is worth your time.“

“Many years ago we visited Koyasan in Japan and it was a village that was the center of Shingon Buddhism with 117 temples scattered around a cedar forest. We stayed overnight in one of the monasteries and dined on shojin ryori meals, made without meat, fish or animal products (and without onions or garlic). What does this have to do with Koya, the Japanese restaurant in Highland Park? Nothing, I'm afraid--the restaurant's name simply evokes memories of a very meaningful travel experience and I found myself reminiscing. This visit my Saba sashimi was cut a little thicker and did not seem to have the usual marinade. The Rainbow roll was ok but bland. The wait staff was a little argumentative when my companion checked if he was given the Dynamite roll. It was spicy but kind of meagre. We usually love dining here although this visit did not seem up to the usual standard. They do provide free miso soup if you want and complimentary mochi ice cream and Couque D'asse cookies. Though this visit was not our usual, we do love the food generally and will be back.“
