You ever get in the mood for something different. This is the place to break the routine.Being of partial German decent, I highly value good homemade food from the region, and atmosphere to enhance enjoyment. Gerst Haus rocks! This is a German Bar, some 20 to 30 beverages on tap. Wide variety of local brews, German brew, and my favorite, stouts. Was actually difficult choosing my stout, they had so many.Service was great, friendly, and helpful for our visit. Plenty of seating, booths and tables, not to mention the full-length bar.We had ham balls as our appetizers, tasted OK, but no our cup of tea... We had beef stroganoff, it was delicious and hit the spot, noodles ? ? smothered in gray, chunks of tender roast beef, and bake mushrooms ? ? in perfect balance. Came with garlic toast which helped get every bit of the gravy off the bowl. The place is charming with hardwood detail, German art, flags, craftsmanship and engineering simplicity ? it felt like being there.Parking: We were able to park right in front, but I would expect that is rare. Many restaurants on this street, so parking is tight.

We ate fans of Gerst Haus. Great beer choices, ok pricing, similar to every other restaurant's pricing. I'm not a huge fan of German style food, but everyone else loves it. Definitely recommend Gerst Bavarian Haus!

We had a late lunch their today with our family. The restaurant was minimally crowded and in an old general store type building. The service was good and the food was excellent. We started out with their humongous pretzel and dipping sauce. Yum yum. We also tried the loaded potato skins and doing them equally tasteful. For our main dish we split the sampler platter. You can seemed from several entrees and this was an excellent choice to experience quiet a variety of food and sides.

We eat here often. We stopped in April 2024. Service was great, food was excellent. We had all traditional German food, we have been to Germany. Gerst Haus is as close as it gets. We did have Fried Oysters for the appetizer. They were great.

First visit to Evansville and Gerst Haus. Came to town for the eclipse & happy to find a German restaurant which don't have where we live in KY. I called to ask for a reservation, we were told they were only taking walk-ins this afternoon making us think they were packed. First impression was that it appeared to be an authentic German restaurant so we had high hopes. The restaurant is large and was pretty empty other than the bar. We asked to be seated outside and there were 2 other tables. Another table arrived and their order was taken immediately. We waited a min of 20 minutes before a waitress even spoke to us and then we had to ask for a drink menu. The waitress couldn't answer 1 question about the menu and didn't even try to get answers, just said she didn't know. A water requested wasn't delivered and we had to ask for a refund as we were charged full price for a beer that was a daily drink special. It took another 30 min for food to arrive. Every dish we ordered was sub par. The salad was watery. The restaurant definitely had a vintage German Octoberfest vibe, so I guess if you're going for that and beer at the bar then maybe it's the place for you. If you want decent German food and good service, don't bother. Way overpriced for what it is!

Busy night the weekend of the Eclipse. Front desk and servers were friendly, efficient and got our offer 100% correct, even with a special order. Lovely evening and great food. Started with giant pretzel table ordered, bratwurst dinner, bratwurst sandwich, Jager Schnitzel, Schweine Schnitzel and Baby back ribs. Great beer hall ambiance and lovely experience.

Fabulous place with great service. My first visit, my husband had been a couple of times since he is in area for work. Love the character and history of the building. Our server was amazing and knowledgeable. She made great recommendations especially about the beers. Started with the big pretzel (not on the menu but ask for it, you won't be sorry). I had corned beef and cabbage while my husband chose schnitzel. Both were great serving sizes and really good. We decided to take dessert, apple struesal, to go for home and it was perfect.

Had late lunch at Gerst - service was off as well as food. Normally, I love this place - has anyone else noticed issues?
