“I wanted to like Spanish Diner since I'm a huge fan of Jaleo and of Jose Andres, but the food was so lacking in finesse and taste, even for a diner. Patatas bravas was drowning in tomato sauce (I could barely taste the potato or aoli) and the bacalao over eggplant and tomato sauce had little flavor. The ham and cheese was tasty, but nothing to say "Spain" about it...mediocre food accompanied by a hefty price tag will keep me from going back. I'm so sad that Jose Andres missed the mark on this one, unfortunately.“

When I asked the take out person about a particular item, I was told in a condescending tone that “this is a Mexican restaurant - as if I didn’t know (y tengo raices Latinos). Many restaurants carry - or are able to make - basic things that necessarily wouldn’t be on their menu for kids.We were told to expect 25-30 minute wait. It ended up being 1 hour. No offer to get us water - though they supplied it when asked.The manager was kind and made up for lacking service. She refunded the 1 missing dish (it wasn’t in take out bag) and comped another dish we’d ordered to make up for it.Bottom line: Go! Food is worth it! But plan for potentially long waits; order everything at once; & go early.“

“I just had my 2nd absolutely DELICIOUS Indian dinner at Virraaj on Cordell. My husband noticed what he thought was a new restaurant across from the public parking last week so we went there for our Wednesday date nite. We went earlyish and only a couple other tables were taken when we arrived but by the time we left at 6:30 ish it was just about full so best to make reservations. Even with many diners, it was still easy to talk to each other and be heard. I started w/ the AAM Palak Chaat appetizer which I had first tasted at Rasika and have ordered every time I have seen it on a menu. Definitely rivaled Rasika's and the portion was big enough to share w/ my husband as an appetizer. My main was the Murgh Bahak/ Kadai Chicken. So tender, so tasty with onion and green and red bell peppers, delicious brown sauce w/ terrific spices plus a little spicy kick. I ate as much as I could and still had left overs for 2 lunches at home. My husband ordered a lamb dish he enjoyed and finished every morsel including the rice. I saw some reviewers would have liked more rice. We had plenty with our meals so maybe they are giving more w/ each dinner. The waiter was attentive, professional, courteous and nice. The restaurant itself was classy & beautifully appointed - you could tell someone put a great deal of thought and money into designing it. This week we had friends visit who live in VA, within walking distance to Clarendon. We always go there for Indian food because there are so many good Indian restaurants to choose from but they were excited to try Virraaj from our comments about how much we enjoyed it. Before ordering takeout, I called and spoke to Jenni 3 times because I wanted to order what I had ordered last week but couldn't remember the name. She could not have been kinder or more patient in helping me figure out that it was the Kadhai Chicken. It may not seem like it from this review but I am a picky eater - happy to pay any price (just about ) for good food but am too often disappointed in Bethesda. Virraag got the highest marks on everything important to me: service, food, and ambiance - all of us enjoyed our meals and noone was disappointed. We ordered pickup for 4 main dishes including my fav Murgh Bahak/Kadai Chicken, Butter Chicken, Lamb Tawa Masala and Hariyal Murgh Tikka, naan and roti. All went on 2 big lazy susans on the dining room table and we kept on spinning, tasting and enjoying. The wife of the other couple always orders the Butter Chicken and kept on saying how moist and delicious the chicken was tonight. We all tried and liked everything - - not one complaint. So glad that we have a great Indian restaurant to go to and take friends to and not worry that anyone is not going to enjoy -- it is that good!“

What I like? - Chicken tortilla soup which is quite flavorful though a tad salty - Crispy signature fish tacos with black beans and rice: a generous portion, perfectly crispy, fresh ingredients, nice and balanced. The hot sauce on the side is excellent and packs a good punch. What I'll skip: - blackened fish tacos: lacking in flavor - rice bowl which I had with the signature crispy fish: the combo of vegetables isn't right. It shouldn't have raw carrot cubes and lots of raw bell peppers and corn. There's also too much mayo. I'll go tacos next time. Excellent and quick and helpful and efficient service. It's also a fine fast casual space. I appreciate that there are plates and utensils and takeout containers out to speed up the dining experience.“

I had a bowl with noodles and purple rice, for protein I picked beef (bulgogi); for toppings: corn, cucumbers, kimchi, scallions, carrots and cilantro plus Cilantro-Ranch dressing; also sesame seeds and roasted garlic......I could say this is heaven! “House of Milae is a great location in Bethesda for authentic Korean cuisine! Parking is easy, as there's a garage right across the street, and the restaurant has a good amount of seating. The Korean side dishes (Banchan) they provide are numerous and tasty, my favorites are the standard cabbage kimchi and the fish cakes. I got the Kimchi Fried Rice with pork, and it was really flavorful! Spicy, sweet, and savory from the gochujang paste, mellowed out with the runny egg yolk and nicely stir fried rice, it's a great combination of flavors, and really tastes like a nice home-made Korean Kimchi fried rice! Prices are a bit on the higher side, but I suppose that is just Bethesda prices. My friend did feel a bit sick from the food she ate afterwards, but I felt fine. Overall I do enjoy the food here and would come back again for more Korean fare.“

“This wonderful, peaceful nook has my favorite California Roll in the area: Thin outer layer of rice; and a generous, finely slivered crab mix with fresh avocado. Every component tastes and feels very fresh. The wasabi, ginger, rice, everything! Sushi is pretty "simple"; ergo if one aspect is mediocre, the dish will be ... unspecial. The CA Roll here comes generously sprinkled with those tiny, bright orange roe that pop in your mouth with a faint but welcome added bonus of fresh fish. Every time I have ever ordered this, the freshness, presentation, size (generous on filling, so if you like a low carb diet but are craving sushi, this is your spot. The CA Roll is typically 85-90% filling.) They have a lunch special on prices between 11am-3pm, M-F, with excellent prices on select sushi and bentos. I honestly love their CA Rolls. (I have also greatly enjoyed their tempura meals. The dilping sauce is a traditional thin, broth-like consistency. (I personally favor savory over sweet, and the tempura sauce here is mildly sweet. I suspect that folks in the Mid-Atlantic used to Southern cooking may like the slight sweetness more than I do, but ot is mild and enjoyable. I am from Hawaii and grew up making tempura witg my mom at home.) They make wonderful tempura. The batter is light and crisp! (Not like the heavy, greasy dough that mortified me from a well-received other Japanese eaterie in my county here.). Maki Bar has fresh, delicious, very tastefully seasoned sushi. So Happy every visit for over 5 years now.“

“We came here with some friends who went to the original location in New Haven, CT. They were thrilled to see this one open at the Montgomery Mall near their home. For my wife and I, we just wanted good, old fashioned American pizza with many toppings since we live in Germany. We get great pizza there, but the pepperoni is clearly different and toppings are limited. The service here was good, but nothing special. The pizza was very tasty and had plenty of toppings on the Special with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. The glass of wine was a let down, especially for the price.
