Greek Restaurants near Silver Spring

“An avid Greek cuisine lover, I am always on the lookout for some really good souvlaki or gyro, Greek salads or other fabulous eats, having tried them from Oregon to Florida! I recently ran across BGC while in the Silver Spring area around lunch time, and boy, am I glad I did! For being a small place, I was impressed with their lively and bright, yet not overwhelming décor - it not louder than your lunch, helping to savor and enjoy the experience. It was nice, neat, convenient, and the counter staff is very friendly and attentive. I was sold BGC the moment I bit into their huge and hard to handle, but incredibly delicious Bifteki Pita with a side of peppers and feta cheese, and a Coke! Anyone who can make something this good, has to make everything just as well. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting the busy Big Greek himself, coming out of the kitchen briefly to say hi and receive my compliment. Anyone who enjoys excellent Greek fare, has to put the Big Greek Café on their bucket list of eateries. I'll see you as soon as I can get back to BGC. Bon appétit!“

“Don’t underestimate the greatness of this place based on its humble location and signage. Excellent food made with simple, authentic ingredients. It feels like you are eating your grandmother’s food in Greece. One of the tastiest meals I have had in the DMV. I particularly enjoyed the mezze, like grilled octopus, giant white beans (gigantes) and tzatziki. Must return soon to work my way through more the of the menu. Service was also super warm and friendly. Recommend!“

“Loved the eggplant parm sandwich. Ordered with extra cheese and definitely felt they added an adequate amount. Did not feel overly greasy and was still filling. Bought the half size. I would prefer the bread to be a little more toasted, but overall a really good eggplant parm sub. Would definitely come back. Feels like a hole in the wall place. Service was quick!“

“In recent years there seems to be a proliferation of small-plate Mediterranean restaurants. But Yayla remains as one of the best, reasonably priced originals in northern Virginia. There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. Friends chose a range of other dishes. I can guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Everything is flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. Wait staff and servers are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and not obtrusive. Don’t miss the nice selection of creative cocktails, wine variety and desserts. “Absolutely a gem! This is one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in the area. We ordered a gyro combo with the feta fries, the steak souvlaki platter with the rice pilaf and side salad, another gyro, and the tirokafteri appetizer. The steak souvlaki was cooked perfectly medium rare, so juicy and so soft. The rice pilaf side dish and the side salad were so rich and plentiful. Then the gyros were huge! The gyros tasted so fresh and were high quality. My photos did not do the gyros justice ?, and make sure to order the feta fries! What a fun and cheesy take, the lemon paired really well with the feta.And what surprised me most was how delicious tirokafteri appetizer is, especially when they served it with hot freshly toasted pita. I’ve never tried it before, and this is a great appetizer to share with a group. Really 10/10 experience especially after all the employees and manager were so friendly and checking in on our experience so far. I’ll definitely be back.There is also plenty of parking available immediately outside of the restaurant or in the garage next door. The restaurant was clean and had plenty of space, mixed seating available for smaller or larger groups.“
