“Fantastic speakeasy sushi joint. Very small, no more than an handful of people may join the omasake style bar where 3 talented (and cool) chefs serve you the best crafted sushi you can get. Definitely going back soon.“

“Great omakase for $70! The last course which was the banana unagi dessert was surprisingly a pleasant pairing. But the course felt too fast-paced (which makes sense for NYC) - I wish I had more time to fully appreciate the experience of each bite.“

“Put this place on the map!!!! A tried a true, best of the best, MUST go to spot when visiting (or living in) NYC. No exaggeration, my boyfriend and I haven’t stopped talking about this place since we visited last year. We’ll finally be back in town next month and are beyond excited to be dining with them again. Did we book a trip just to eat here!? Maybe… probably… because seriously, this place is exceptional. The owner is the sweetest, most delightful human with an incredible story and the food/service is an unmatched experience. Plus, you simply can’t beat their affordable omakasi prices…but the bigger bonus??? BYOB. Bring your wine, bring your tequila, bring neither or bring both. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a party in the most intimate sense. I never write reviews, but Sushi YOLO is a 10/10, so please, do yourself a favor and go see them before they earn that Michelin Star!“

“Finally found an amazing lunch spot for sushi! They have a lunch omakase (didn’t do the deluxe as I do not care for salmon roe) and it was unbelievably good for the price! It was only 38 dollars with gratuity included. Unreal. The fish was incredible, I still dream about the fluke and the Spanish mackerel. The staff was attentive and informative about the sushi you’re eating, and everything moved in a timely manner. I found my new favorite lunch spot!
Dietary restrictions: They do ask if you’re allergic to anything before you start the experience!“

“I’m late in posting my review. I visited Thirteen Water on May 18, 2024 and it easily became my favorite omakase experience considering the cost, quality, and creativity. Every piece honestly made me want to dance it was so good! If I was a local, I’d visit them regularly. They really set my expectations high for all omakases. Turns out I have a hobby; an expensive hobby. Omakase. But with the base price of $75, it simply means I can spend more on add-ons ?. I can’t wait to revisit!“

“I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Sushi W, and I can confidently say that it was one of the best culinary experiences I've ever had. Everything from the moment I walked in was perfect—the ambiance, the service, and most importantly, the food.
The sushi at Sushi W is nothing short of heavenly. Every bite was a delightful explosion of flavors that left me craving more. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the rolls were crafted with such precision and care that you could taste the artistry in each piece. It’s clear that the chefs here are masters of their craft, delivering food that is not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes.
The service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. They took the time to explain the menu, offer recommendations, and ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was flawless. It's rare to find a place where both the food and service are of such high quality, but Sushi W has truly mastered the art of hospitality.
The cleanliness of the restaurant also stood out to me. The environment was spotless, and every detail was taken care of, which only added to the overall experience of dining here.
I will definitely be returning to Sushi W often, and I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who loves sushi, quality, and a top-notch dining experience. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or just looking for an exceptional meal, this place is a must-visit ❤️“

“I don’t usually write reviews but for this place I had to. I came here for lunch by chance after deciding over another omakase place and it was the best decision ever. The chef I had was very nice and personable, along with all of the staff. There wasn’t a course here that I didn’t like and a couple of them had such unique and delicious ingredient combinations. And for $89 is a steal! No complaints whatsoever. Will definitely come back when in NYC again and recommend to everyone!“

“$195 for 18 pieces. Definitely worth it for what I would consider the best omakase in NYC. The pieces were thick, I was full by the end, everything was higher quality and fresher than anywhere else I’ve been, and there were some pieces that were done slightly differently than other omakases, which kept things new but tasty without being too extra. Some examples include directly searing the black perch with hot coal, or serving the final tamago piece as a roll with rice and marinated gourd, which I’ve only had served like this when I was in Japan. They also paid attention to the temperature and composition of the rice to include 5- versus 7-year aged vinegar based on how strong the flavor of the fish was. Service was exceptional. Our chef, D, was professional and such a pleasure. The country music was a bit odd but otherwise everything else was more than worth the cost, which would normally get you smaller pieces and lower quality in Manhattan.“

“I got the spicy tuna dip and clam soup as appetizers, and for my main course, I ordered the signature set and added a few more temakis. Personally, I preferred the classic types of temakis. The special kinds had too much sauce for my taste. Overall, everything was delicious, and the staff were super nice. If you can't get a reservation at the city location, the Williamsburg location is way easier to book a table.“

“They want to make you happy, and do a lot to show it. Dishes we tried included the caviar dumplings (juicy, wonderfully contrasting flavors, fantastic sauce) short ribs (falliing-off-the- bone tender) and great hand rollls and unagi don. Things got a little busy, and they came up to apologize for unagi main dish being delayed, and plated a free roll. Not necessary, not sought, but appreciated. Even the synthetic maple tree, with its foliage forward orange leaves, looked great.“

“Aesthetically the place is unassuming, just based on how it looks from the outside I might not have chosen it but because of the good reviews we went and it was so worth it. The shoyu ramen was one of the best I’ve had and the tempura shrimp appetizer was also delicious. Our server was lovely. Would definitely go again.“

“Great food, even better staff. So attentive and kind, we felt right at home.
Our server was so attentive that when my girlfriend dropped her chopsticks, he grabbed a new one from the nearest empty table and handed it to her within 15 seconds. Wonderful staff!!
We hope they get omakase back soon in the near future!“

“Simply superb. The fish and shellfish are pristine. The chefs are skilled and approachable. The servers are helpful and gracious. While not “inexpensive,” I believe it’s a value for what is delivered. I’ve been three times—just last night for the first time, I’m sorry to say, since COVID—and each time was exquisite. Beyond highly recommended. A treasure.“

“My favorite omakase place in the city! I feel so lucky that Takeda is in our neighborhood. The high quality dishes are always presented beautifully, and each time we go, we'd be surprised by some special offerings that are so delicious but that we have never tried before (e.g., tiny white shrimp). Chef Takeda and his staff are always friendly, professional, and very informative with each dish that they serve; they'll share the specific prefecture from which the fish is from, and other information such as the season for the fish, and whether they aged it and for how long etc. The environment is calming and you don't hear any outside noise, so we could focus entirely on the culinary experience, and I love that! It is an intimate setting and I thoroughly enjoy watching Chef Takeda craft each dish with meticulous precision. It's definitely a treat to come here!“

“Once I found Katsuya, I had a wonderful meal. If you go, walk past Whole Foods, Peloton and a half dozen potted trees. It is upstairs but there is an elevator. I had hamachi carpaccio - best I've very tasted, and the Katsuya roll - also very delicious. My server was lovely and the restaurant is beautiful“

“Excellent Omakase, possibly the best "bang for the buck" in NYC for the genre.
Many favorites, but the crescendo of 3 tuna pieces that ends with o toro with caviar and truffles, ikura with lime zest, and the unagi were all note-worthy.
Simply fantastic!“

“The lunch was wonderful. They never disappoint but this time the Sushi and sashimi was awesome. I had one of the lunch specials which I usually don't finish because it's too much food but this time the sushi and sashimi was so good I ate all of it. The sake suggestion was perfect. Definitely a place to keep returning to.“

“A friend of mine and I went to this restaurant for dinner. When we arrived we paid to park in a lot nearby. We walked in, and the restaurant looked fairly new. We were served by Steven and he was very nice. We started with cocktails and I had the old fashioned and it was good! I then had the red wine which I liked. My friend had the strawberry Basil Mule, and she enjoyed it. Now we had appetizers, and I had the soft shell crabs and my friend had the dumplings, and the food was good. We lastly had Temaki Set: California, Salmon, Lobster, and they were good. For dinner, my friend had the short rib, and I had the sweet and spicy chicken. We both really enjoyed our dishes. The chicken was marinated really well. We definitely had a good experience!“

“Amazing place, a hidden gem in deeper Queens for anyone looking for a Japanese dinner. Got the Chirashi bowl and the 9-piece Sushi Dinner. I’m pretty sure it’s family owned(?) so if you’re looking to support a small business this is where it’s at! Super friendly staff and all the ingredients are very fresh and well prepared by the two chefs in the bar. Menu also has ramen for those looking for a hearty warm meal and beer or sake for those looking to wind down after a day of hard work. Overall good vibes and energy from all the servers. Visit if you’re ever in the Queens area looking for Japanese food!
My meal came out to be around 82 for two Sapporos and two full dinners; very worth knowing it’s fresh sashimi and complimentary tea to finish the meal! Definitely will be back in the future!
Parking: Getting there after 7:00 pm the parking is free. I would go around the neighbourhood and loop around a few times if you’re looking for parking since some local businesses are getting off work at that time.“
