Paleteria Los Michoacanos Ice Cream Shop •

“When I was in Chicago a couple of summers ago, I found myself getting paletas nearly everyday at every paleteria I could find as I couldn't find them as easily in NYC. So, when I realized this place was in Queens, I just had to check it out for myself. I'm not sure if it's related at all to the similarly named places elsewhere, but this place seemed to be pretty identical to the ones I had gone to in Chicago, at the very least. I quite liked my coconut paleta, and I'm looking forward to coming back here in the summer, or any time I happen to be in the mood for an icy treat.“

Ice Cream Window Ice Cream Shop • $
682 Woodward Ave, Queens

“We stopped at the ice cream window tonight. As we walked up at 7:55 pm, the A-frame read: last day. The music inside got louder as we approached the window; they were playing Lorde’s ‘Supercut’. We were the last customers of the day, the last customers of the season. The two people still working asked if we’d like to try anything, so we did—the ‘Linden’ was all gone, but they told us it was named after the Linden tree, which grows on the streets of Ridgewood beyond the Window. They harvest the flowers in June and use it to make ice cream during the months that follow. Another woman who worked there came up and joined our conversation—she said the Linden tree grew natively in her homeland, Poland, and the smell reminded her of childhood. We ended up trying the Brown butter, Waldmeister, Guava and Passionfruit. Everything was decadent. Ice cream window 4ever“

“Food-The waffle was wonderful! Not too sweet and the texture was good. Fresh and soft. I'm sure it was made right before it was served. However, the ice cream it was served with tasted too milky. A very heavy dairy flavor. Honestly, it gave me an ick. Tasted like pure like and I could not appreciate the sweetness or matcha. It tasted kind of cheap. The presentation was so very pretty. I liked the strawberry sauce. It was sweet but not syrup. Surprisingly more like a jam! Sadly, when the ice cream touched the waffle, it was kind of ruined. I think other places can do better simply because of the ice cream. The melon was super good. I highly recommend it. The fruit was tender and fresh. It was stuffed with melon. However, do not expect Bingsoo. It is not finely shredded ice. I did not kind this. I like the bite to the ice. I never felt like I got a mouthful of tasteless ice so all is good with the icyness. This is truly delicious. Do order this! The tea was cute. Strong flavor.Service-Good service. Not rushed and seated quickly. The waitress came to clarify the order which is always good.Atmosphere-This place is really cute! My Chinese friend told me that 520 phonetically sounds like “I love you in chinses” and the pink was nice. It feels comfortable and the setup allows for feelings of privacy. The little food mall makes this feel like a little hidden gem. However, note that there is a strong smell of cumin due to the skewer restaurant close by. It's not awful but it does smell like cumin. If this is bothersome, this is not the place for you. The music was cute 2nd gen K-pop and some listenable trendy Chinese music.Conclusion-Come here for some nice Instagram pictures. The price is average for queens and way better than anything you are getting in Manhattan! The waffle is good but that ice cream is a NO. The fruit is notably fresh and scrumptious!“

“This bakery makes the best croissants, and pastries are good too. Everything is good, breads and pastry. My go to place for croissants. They're light, crispy on the outside, chewy and pillowy soft on the inside. With a delicate buttery sweet taste. If you're lucky to get a fresh one, you're in for a real treat. The best I've had in NYC since I was in Paris. No other place, even the expensive ones in Manhattan, make croissants and bread as good. Baguette was good too. Love this place. It is my favorite go-to bakery in Astoria. Can't wait for the 30th Ave location to open up again. Their Moroccan tea is also great. But the croissants and pastry are top in my list. Reasonably priced too at $3 on average for a GOOD croissant.“

“This small cafe is a great stop for a quick bite or drink. They pay attention to detail and things are made in house. It is conveniently located next to a local Chinese supermarket and an elementary school. Fortunately, there is a parking lot that has tons of space available for free. The cafe is quite small and meant for a quick order and pick up, but there's some seating for a sit down. Indoor Sit down is only for 3-4 people. You can place your order either by walking in or calling ahead of time to pick up. I ordered lumpia and it was cooked right away just as I ordered it. It was fresh and crispy. Definitely homemade. One order comes with 5 pieces along with a sweet and sour sauce. The chicken bacon avocado wrap is filling with lots of vegetables and protein. Flavor wise, everything is quite balanced. The Hawaiian chia bowl had mangos, bananas and granola on top. It was just sweet enough and not overpowering. Decent portion. The lemonade was a bit too sweet for my liking. If you'd like flavored lemonade, expect it to be flavored syrup mixed with some lemonade. It's delicious but quite sweet. Overall, I'd recommend this place for a quick bite, but not really for a sit down spot.“
