Alla Famiglia 804 E Warrington Ave, Pittsburgh Italian • $$$$

“We’ve dined twice at Alla Famiglia and it’s the best Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Their portions are massive and we’ve always had enough for lunch the next day. The three things we recommend are the grilled octopus appetizer, any of the veal chops, and the seafood diavola. You need to see the size of the veal chops in person as pictures online don’t do it justice. We thought the Cavatappi tasted better than the Cacio pasta, even though Cacio costs more. Overall it’s pricey for Pittsburgh, but the quality is superior and you get enough for lunch the next day. Another tip is get a bottle of their spicy olive oil on the way out. I add it to many dishes for an extra kick and it makes for a great present.”

“GREAT CIDERS, PIZZAS, and VIBES! Tried Threadbare Coder House for the first time last night - I am REALLY late to this party - and it was fantastic! First off, if you're a toddler mom like me, you know a night out with the kids can be more stressful than fun. Threadbare was totally kid friendly and has an amazing corner with giant light bright boards and magnatiles for the kids to play! It was amazing and the most relaxed my husband and I have been out in a long time! Like it was so nice that even if the service and food hadn't been good I would have returned for that feature alone- thank goodness that wasn't the case! We ordered two pizzas - the buffalo chicken and chicken bacon ranch. Both pizzas were sooo good! We especially loved the buffalo chicken! The chicken is a slow cooked braised cider chicken that is so flavorful. The ranch on both pizzas is homemade and herby, and the dough is a homemade sourdough crust which was perfectly crisp and thin. Very well executed. Service was fantastic! We felt very well taken care of, we were given the cookie for the kids on the house and the food and drinks were out quickly. Our favorite cider was probably the tiki which is a seasonal recipe and has a hint of coconut. It was delicious. We also really liked the imperial cherry and guava flavors. The bridge city bubbly was nice but sweet lovers beware - it's very dry. Overall we loved our visit to Threadbare and will be back soon! Our only regret is that we didn't know about it sooner!”

My order arrived exactly as I ordered it and they didn't miss any of the sides. They have a huge selection of desserts and I got the sweet potato pie, it tastes like my 95 yr old grandma from Tennessee made it! Get the homemade healthy green tea drink, you won't be disappointed! The portions are huge... but I'm most impressed with the more flavorable twist on traditional hibachi. ❤ keep it up. I found a new spot!!”

“Visited this incredible Uzbek restaurant a couple of days ago and I'm still in awe! From scratch-made dishes that transported me to merry days, to an abundant selection of salads, pilaf, and savory baked goods, every bite was a celebration. Celebrated a special occasion here (they're perfect for anything from birthdays to anniversaries), and the two women owners couldn't have been more accommodating. Forgot a card for my present, and they saved the day with a beautiful card. They even helped us with costumes for a fun game with our guests! The food? Absolutely amazing. The atmosphere? Cozy, welcoming, with perfectly arranged tables that made the evening even more special. Highly recommend this gem for any occasion. #UzbekCuisine #CozyDining #SpecialOccasions"”

“This place is AMAZING! My mom and I are in town for a college tour, and many people were walking around with the ice cream so I suggested we give it a try. Immediately the two guys in there were delightful and very helpful and cheery. The atmosphere was so fun the moment we walked in. The flavors were amazing and I almost couldn’t choose between the Thin Mint and the Pittsburgh Pride. I ended up going with the latter. It is like brownie/oreo/cookie chunks and butterscotch. There might be another thing added. My mom got the pear flavor. We are both extremely satisfied with our choices. They did say that the flavors change up pretty often - for example, they’re getting ready for Blackberry Lemonade. But Pittsburgh Pride will always be available. “Best areas I've had from a restaurant! Had a Venezuelan roommate in college and have been friends for 20 yrs. Eaten many areas at restaurants and homemade and these were perfect!I got this nice juicy arepa with a wonderfully crispy corn flour shell and could not have been more pleased with it. Excellent blend of ingredients! I got the pabellon with seasoned shredded chicken, plantain, black beans, and quest fresco, smeared both sauces on and got into the messy traditional Venezuelan hand "taco". With some minor effort it didn't completely fall apart, just a few bites of ingredients fell out. That means they didn't skimp on the food but also didn't overload it to bursting. Perfect! Paired it with a classic Venezuelan Malta barley soda. Yum!The decor here is exactly how it should be you guys are doing an awesome job and 4.8 stars right now is Ballin! “After several years, still a 4. I started with a drink at the bar and then moved on to a table. It was around 5 on a Saturday and the place was dead except for a wedding party killing a half hour at the bar. Too early, I guess. The bar service was fine. The table service was too, though he perhaps came off as a little less than genuine. In any case, I didn't really want for anything. My burger and fries were very good and I enjoyed the wine. The burrata app was weird (they minced up the burrata?), but it tasted good. Perhaps they didn't want to serve the whole ball? My main gripe was that menu presented was different from the one found on their website. This was due to a recent seasonable update, but come on folks-it's just a quick upload. I was originally disappointed that the burger that I'd come there for was not on the new menu. When we asked, though, he explained (in a sort of annoyed, ugh-I-have-to-explain-the-burger-thing-again tone) that the burger was just too popular. While they still serve it, it's not on the menu "to give customers a chance to notice the rest of the [more expensive] menu offerings". Mind you, this is a $27 burger and fries we are talking about here - not a super-cheap dish that's bringing in the riff-raff. They apparently plan to rebrand the burger as a secret menu item or something. Maybe it's me, but if your burger is outshining the rest of the menu to the point where you actively try to sell less of it, perhaps the rest of the menu is actually the issue. I, for one, rarely order a burger and love more fine dining food, but nothing else on this menu really stood out to me.”

He let us know he could get our drink order while we waited for a two top table to clear which he assured us would happen soon. My partner has severe peanut, tree nut and shellfish food allergies and the host asked us immediately about our allergies. While my partner got beer (allergy comfort zone), they ensured my drinks were made in a separate shaker and let him know that he could try them if he wanted since they made them separate and left out any allergens. This was a lovely place for someone with allergies and it was really unexpected and wonderful. I will definitely be back. “My Wife and I have been to pretty much every high-end Steak restaurant in Pittsburgh and the Vandal consistently has the best Steak we have had. We had the Tomahawk Ribeye for two and it was extremely tender, succulent and tasty. I believe the Vandal's ability to consistently provide the best steak experience is due to the Sous Vide cooking of the steak initially, with a grill or sear before service. And don't forget about perfect twice fried frites! Everything was great as well as great service.”

Quick-fried chipotle-corn tortilla stuffed with beef slow-marinated in chile de árbol and cinnamon, topped with raw onion, cilantro, melted queso Oaxaca. Let me preface this review by saying I love Nashville Hot Chicken but outside of Nashville, TN is has been difficult to find a "hot" chicken that compares to what I've had in Tennessee. Some other places around the Burgh have Nashville Hot Chicken but the spice combinations don't work. At Gordo's the Nashville Hot Chicken Taco is so good with a perfect spice blend. It tastes like hot chicken tacos that I had at Pie Town Tacos in Nashville. Gordo's is the place in Pittsburgh to satisfy your hot chicken craving. Not to mention, their other menu items are delicious too. And they have great margs. My second favorite menu item is the Churoli- A churro and cannoli hybrid that rocks!”

“Great location for dinner before Heinz Hall or Benedum Center shows. We had cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table. Appetizers: tuna tartar, bone marrow and lobster bisque. Entrees: Seared Scallops on a bed of crab risotto with crispy kale, Filet mignon with potatoes. Desserts: Coconut cake, creme brulee and chocolate mousse pot. Every item was prepared and served excellently. The presentation was lovely. Food taste and temperature was perfect. Portions were very nice and we all commented that we were able to finish our entire meal including appetizers and desserts without feeling overstuffed. I could eat the scallops and chocolate mousse dessert every day, they were outstanding. The staff is obviously top notch and well trained. The vibe is just very relaxing and enjoyable. Our waiters were Bri and Addison for the night and they were incredibly polite and professional. We were so stunned by how beautifully all of the food and our decorations were displayed! “Our first experience at KIKU was highly memorable and a truly delightful evening! 5/5 stars all around! ⭐️ We made a reservation for 8 people which they easily accommodated, and the pacing of the many courses and dishes we all sampled was timely and thoughtful. We also requested a staff member who spoke Japanese because we are in a beginner’s language club trying to improve our Japanese and conversation skills. Yasuko B. was absolutely wonderful!! So patient, kind, and helpful in speaking with us and making it an extremely positive experience. She took great care of our table and made me feel welcome to try speaking in Japanese even though I am a beginner without a lot of confidence. I left feeling very inspired and motivated to continue seeking out experiences like this and hopefully meeting more kind people like Yasuko. All of the food was exceptional, and I especially loved the torikatsu, korokke, iidako, and beef tataki. The drink I ordered, Jade East, was hands down one of my favorite drinks I’ve ever tried. Also, the ube mochi was delicious! Overall, we loved everything about KIKU and we are already looking forward to our next visit. ありがとう ございました !”

There is a counter at the front where you order, and your food is ready quickly. We were in Oakland to attend a concert, so this was perfect for us. I had the Brisket Bowl, and it was quite delicious. I didn't care for all the disposable plates and utensils, so I wish there was an option for that when dining in. Pizza Roma Restaurant 8360 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh Restaurant • $

“We often order delivery from here and are always impressed with the quality of the food, the quantity, and the speed of delivery. Tonight it was chicken parmigiana with angel hair and a side salad with fried zucchini as an appetizer for me, while my dad did the build-your-own-pasta with gnocchi and carbanara (bacon, mushroom cream) sauce and caesar salad. They said it would be an hour and it was only 30 minutes. I don't know how the fried zucchini travels and still arrives crispy, but they do it, and it's awesome, large slices, very generous, like a whole zucchini, with crisp, though not too thick, breading. It does not include a dip, only lemon wedges, but I have ranch dressing here. The chicken parmigiana was two large breasts, breaded, moist, and smothered in sauce and cheese. The side salads are generous with a thick slice of cucumber, grape tomato, red onion, and lettuce (the caesar - not real authentic but good - with croutons, black olives, grape tomatoes, lettuce, and parm cheese). We are never disappointed and always have leftovers. The one time something was wrong with our order, they promptly came back with what was missing and gave us a credit. Try the focaccia pizzas for a week's worth of great food! Highly recommended!!!”

“I am pleasantly pleased with my visit to Nothing Bundt Cakes in North Hills! The smell that greeted me at the front door was tantalizing! The store's spring season decor was appealing to the eye! Store staff was friendly and personable. There was many options to select from the glass display. My children loved the free sample of the oreo and cream mini. Now, for the good part... the Bundt cake was delicious! So fresh and moist! I will definitely be a returning customer!”

“I came for their industry night and it was great. They have a variety of ginger beer (alcohol and non), cocktails, and local craft beer. The space is a modern and comfortable vibe. There is a small space with a fire pit to hang out outside as well. They did have a food truck while I was there this visit. Not sure if they will continue to have trucks-but there is definitely space for rotating food trucks. The ginger beers were great and their mule was super refreshing and delicious. I'm looking forward to them opening up full time soon.”

Starbucks 9100 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh Coffee Shops

“I only wish this existed when I was going to college nearby at La Roche. Apparently a Crazy Mocha once existed in Passavant, but I never made my way to it unfortunately. I have, however, been to some other hospital coffee shops, like the Starbucks in Presby in Oakland. Not only is this Starbucks new, but it looks like some of the main hall at the Passavant entrance was redone too. There are plenty of tables and chairs out front so you can gaze out the window, and the large atrium seating area is nearby. Inside there is ample seating like any location, with an area off to the right to buy branded cups and mugs. Given that it's the holiday season and the special drinks were available I decided to try the white peppermint mocha. The cafe was not too busy for a weekday in the midafternoon, so I was waited on right away. Only a few hospital employees wondered in while I was sitting, as well as a few visitors. Nothing too unique about this location design wise, it's your typical dimly lit but nicely done spot. There is some interesting hospital history and displays father down the hall to explore, as well as the chapel and gift shop.”

“A new, lovely little Starbucks that is super quick at service. The employees are friendly and kind. Store is drive-thru and mobile order, which I like because I tend to get my order much quicker. Store is always super clean too. 100% my favorite Starbucks now.”
