Waffles in Pittsburgh, PA

“This is a special place. Liege waffles are very different than anything I've ever had. They are made from a yeast dough, with caramelized brown sugar inside, smallish, and served warm in a napkin so that you can take it with you while window shopping. Please note: these are not meant to be served with ice cream on top. The ice cream and waffles are both very good by themselves. The owner only serves them together because people ask for that, but I think they ask for it because they think that's how it's meant to be served. (At least, that's what we thought!)“

“The food was amazing, such interesting combinations, very fresh and tasty. Loved the atmosphere. Price was very fair for what we had and as we weren't in a rush we were very happy. Sadly, only one staff member on the floor with occasional help from the kitchen staff. The poor girl was literally rushed off her feet. Not fair on her or the customers so please put an extra staff member on to help. I will return though... Thank you.“

“Excellent, excellent, excellent - this is the best ice cream/custard in Pittsburgh. The hours are a little tricky but absolutely worth it any chance you get. Flavors are always delicious and the texture is phenomenal. And the italian ice is wonderful as well!“

“Forever thinking about my delicious waffle and ice cream from Waffallonia. We got the scrupulous cookie butter ice cream and Belgian waffle topped with fruit and whipped cream. The line was pretty long and so was the wait for your order, but that’s because only one guy was working behind the counter; he was working super hard though, and being incredibly efficient, so good on him! I split mine with my husband because I thought there was no way I could eat one on my own but honestly wished I had gotten my own since I wanted to keep eating all of it and not share ??“

“We had the most awesome crepes and frappes at Treats and Beans on Myeran Ave in Oakland. The staff was fantastic and so friendly. Totally reccomend to anyone that has a sweet tooth!!!“

“4.5 stars overall. Smashed Waffle is a small restaurant chain that has a few locations. This location in Pittsburgh serves..you guessed it...waffles! The waffles are small in size and come in several flavors such as bacon/egg/cheddar, chicken/honey, honey/cinnamon, chocolate chips, and many others. The menu also includes hash browns, coffees, lattes, sodas, juices, milks, etcetera. As of the time of my review, this restaurant is offering a discounted price for three waffles and a latte to Yelpers who check into the restaurant via the Yelp app. I did not use this coupon, though, because I wanted to order different menu items. I used a kiosk to order two waffles, one hash brown, and one bottled water. An employee promptly gave me the water. Several minutes later, she kindly brought over my foods. The restaurant had several small tables that the employees kept clean. The O.G. waffle was topped with honey and cinnamon-cream sauce, and I rate it as 5 stars. The Cereal Thriller waffle was topped with Fruity Pebbles and vanilla-cream sauce, and I rate it as 4 stars. I rate the Smashed Browns hash browns as 4.5 stars.“

“While they’ve been in Upper St. Clair for a while, and as a chain, have six outposts now, we’ve never been to one of these locations, so we drove in on a weekday. At first, we were not even sure it was open as there were no cars in the parking lot! The lights were on though, so we parked and walked in. Turns out that they only open at 8 AM and we got there at 8:02, so we were the first ones there. I find that somewhat strange for a breakfast and lunch place, as I would have expected to have opened earlier, but what do I know?The menu is quite comprehensive with lots of options and variety of breakfast and brunch offerings. Check out both sides of the menu! On the coffee side, they offer one coffee, but do have an espresso machine so you can get all kinds of espresso drinks, if you so desire. We tried their regular coffee and it come in a small 4 Ounce mug – which they did refill upon request.For our first time, we selected the Breakfast Magic waffle, and the Country Mile. The waffle comes with green onions, bacon crumbles, and cheddar cheese crumbles and an egg on top. The menu states the batter also contains the green onions, bacon and cheese, but we did not detect them. A plop of sour cream accompanies this. The waffle was fluffy enough, but we felt it was pretty ordinary in flavor.The Country mile is a mushroom cheese omelet folded on top of a sausage patty which is then placed between two slices of Italian bread. It is supposed to have a spicy Mayo as well. What we got tasted like Russian dressing. Ordinarily, it comes with a side of potato chips, but we asked for a swap to their home fries, which they did – for an upcharge. Unfortunately, the potatoes were super salty! I took a closeup picture of the and attached it, you can see the salt crystals!I gave this place a four-star rating because the food was decent – although super salty – and the selection is large. Getting in and out of their parking lot in the morning can only be done from one direction which is a hassle. The staff was incredibly nice (which increased the rating!) but overall, it was just OK…“
