My girlfriend and I went to dinner there on July 29th, 2023 for dinner. Things really started off well! The oysters were great, she ordered a martini and I got a topo chico with lime. We also had Peel & Eat Shrimp and house bread w/butter. There was a lot of food already on the table. When she ordered her 2nd drink after being there for about 20-30 min, the server (Tom) took it upon himself to tell the bar staff and management that he was uncomfortable serving her a 2nd alcoholic beverage. Management claimed that the server can get "fired" or their establishment can get in trouble with TABC for over-serving any guest. That would be true if I was also drinking or showing signs of intoxication and she had exhibited some sort of egregious behavior. However we had been normal guests towards the staff and the establishment since our arrival. I worked in restaurants for over 10 years and I would look for 3 key items if I was actually considering "cutting off" a guest from drinking any alcohol: 1st: Volume control - Are they excessively loud or are they having an issue with controlling the tone of their voice? 2nd: Are they bothering anyone else or other guests by their behavior? 3rd: Have they had more than one drink? I do not drink and I had not been given any beverage that had any alcohol in it. She was having fun but also being respectful of the environment. After we ordered the 2nd drink, the server did not bring her a 2nd drink and also didn't tell us that it wasn't coming at all because he feared that he would be overserving a guest. Finally, the manager came to the table and explained what was going on. When I look at this situation dispassionately and consider my knowledge of the industry I always reach the same conclusion; This was inappropriate and wrong. The restaurant business is hard enough, why risk losing customers by pulling a stunt like this? WE love Jack Allen's and will continue to support the company but we will never go to Salt Trader's again because of this. That makes me very upset because of how well the company does "as a whole". What a terrible night.
