50 Best Taco Restaurants in Austin

“Currently visiting Austin from Germany, figured I had to go to Franklin's BBQ atleast once (internet hype is stronk).Got there at around 9 am on a friday, weirdly enough the 2 guys in front of me were from Germany too, ended up chatting away with them and 2 Americans who were in line behind me.Ended up getting our food at around noon (so 2 hours for them to open, 1 hour queue). Got Pork Ribs, Brisket (make sure to say u want half & half, forgot to and only got like 1 fatty slice), Turkey & a Coleslaw side. Staff was very nice.So for the actual food review (comparing to LA Barbecue & Terry Blacks BBQ):- Brisket 9/10: Probably the best fat rendering/consistency, great taste, maximum juicyness. Point deduction for being just slightly too salty for my taste.- Turkey 8/10: Got a small portion just for tasting, was good but nothing special. Points deducted for again being too salty for my taste.- Pork Ribs 5/10: The salt, it's just too much. Consistency/juicyness etc. everything is very good as expected, but the Ribs were so salty that they were simply not enjoyable to eat anymore. I though, maybe its just my european palate cause everything is sweetend and salted more in the US, but everyone in our group (including the Americans) thought that they were just way too salty. My tongue was tingling because of all the salt. When I got home, I literally drank 2 liters of water (it had an actual effect on my body haha).- Coleslaw 8/10: Good but nothing special.Should have probably gotten a Beef Rib instead of the Pork Ribs, but oh well.So yeah, my advice: unless you like your food EXTREMELY salty and like to stand in lines (u could go on a ~wedneyday or just try ur luck at like 2 pm, or order online for 5 pounds+), go there once for the brisket and tick it off your bucket list.This is my first time writing a review, I felt like it might save people wasting time and/or money. I was at LA Barbecue a few times, from the BBQ places I was at, I'd say it's actually my favourite (I'd recommend Pork Ribs & Chopped Brisket).“

“First time trying them and I was not disappointed! Very tasty and well served. I had 2 of suadero, 2 of cachete, and 2 of carnitas. Of course, had to have a Mexican Coke to complete the experience!“

“Best place to have quesabirrias! The birria is made out of goat and is delicious, it is delicious, well made without any additional fat. We order the quesabirrias and they served us a small size of birria soup. We also order the taco of chicharron which was delicious; crispy and tasty chicharron, o my bad thing is the size of the taco to small for my big belly hehe. Can’t wait to go back and try the variety of dishes. The personnel is friendly, kind, welcoming and makes you feel like you are at your uncle’s or aunt’s house like Family.“

“Every time we have friends and family visit us, we bring them to Torchys! In this pastime, we had 11 of us, and our orders came out quickly. Everyone loved their orders. I got the street corn for the first time, and it was amazing! I have a new favorite for sure!The staff was also always on the move and maintaining a great and clean dining area.Vegetarian options: My daughter is s vegetarian, and there are several items that she loves!“

“New place for me on the southeast side of Austin. It's a taco truck called LA Tunira 512.very limited menu. Basically your choice is birra (taco, burrito, quesadilla, or in grilled cheese which I want to try).I obviously had the tacos and WOW. Really good. Basically the birra is perfect. Tender. Juicy. Ideal.I asked about the orange colored tortillas, which are also sublime. Orange because they are home made and fried in the excess grease from making the birra.I rarely give five stars on a first visit, but this is it.“

“Came here for a quick lunch after landing and it was perfect! Quaint, cute vibes and decor with outdoor seating. The menu was small, as many taco shacks are, but was very good! I got the chicken and brisket tacos, my cousin got the cauliflower tacos and we split the chips and guac! All tacos were packed with flavor and the tortillas were clearly homemade and delicious! Would return! (Was so hungry, forgot to take pics. Sorry!)“

“The staff are great and so very friendly! The atmosphere is beautiful and pleasant, with plenty of large trees and flower beds. There is lots of space to spread out and plenty of outdoor seating with tables. Indoor seating too. Very clean! 4 food trucks are there with tacos, Thai, bbq/biscuits, and American fare. They also have pastries from SourDuck, which are very good. “When I turned the corner and smelled the amazing scent of T-Locs Sonoran Style Hot Dogs drifting through the air, I knew my choice for diner had already been made for me. I went all in on the signature Sonoran Dog and it was amazing, delicious, unique, and well worth the modest price. If anyone is out on the trail of lights in Zilker Park this year, T-Locs is a must on the eats list. I’m already craving my next!“

Discada is another level of juicy, succulent, deep flavors wrapped in corn perfection. 3,5 or 8 discada tacos are the options at this food truck and head my warning. “Came from the tuna melt but they were out. So I got the Brisket Brioche Banh mi instead, which was good. I gave it 4 stars because while the food and the service was great, there were a lot of flies hovering around our food and we were sitting in doors. If they could find a solution to that, it'll be great. Besides that, I'll be back (to try the tuna melt) and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great sandwich spot.“

“De nada is amazing!!!!! If you are looking for a Mexican place look no further and come to de nada. The queso, the salsa trio, and the Barbacoa taco… I would sell my first born for the barbacoa taco. The margs are very fresh and strong. Our server Jorge is the best server in the game. “Quick and convenient service! I always order over the phone when I’m craving, 20 mins later I have great tacos! My recommendation is the pastor and tripas tacos! ? I think it’s a bit pricey but torchy’s down the street is charging $5-$7 per taco. Might as well support a small business! The portion sizes are great and they always add radish/ cucumber/ or avocado to the plate. If you’re lucky, all 3! I have been here already 6 times and have had a great experience time after time!“

“This is a small trailer next to the gas station. Best option if you want to eat there is to snag a seat at one of the four picnic tables outside and get a drink from the gas station to accompany your meal. The birria taco and birria ramen were delicious! I cannot wait to come back again.“

“Las Perlas, seven grand and whatever places that are in this building is absolutely amazing. I am a very informative drinker who loves tequila with a wonderful and condensed tequila bar. The only bar I saw that had my favorite Cascahuin Blanco. The tacos there are absolutely delicious so much so that I had 2 rounds of tacos. My favorite part was Ozgur in the rum bar, who I could tell shares my passion for spirits and cocktails, and he was a great reference for me in the Austin area. Even though it was raining cats and dogs, it was busy enough to engage with other guests, but overall, the staff was very interactive and very friendly even the chef was incredibly nice. So thumbs up to everyone here.“

Their Monster Salsa is also terrifyingly good. To top it off, their staff are EXCELLENT!!! Definitely drop by this place and give it a try!“

“Ok so I had to see what the hype was about. I've had it 2 days in a row. First day pastor and Asada tacos pretty damn good 7.5 out of 10. He gives you pre wrapped lemon wedges and plenty of sauce. Day 2 I had the Diabla torta and 2 more Asada tacos just couldn't get enough from yesterday. Again did not disappoint Diabla Torta 10/10 best Torta by far I think I've ever had. This is my favorite taco truck in Austin.“

“You must try the menudo on Sundays it’s the best menudo ever. It does go by fast so we drive about 45 mins to go get it super early in the morning. The owner Elvira is a hard working women I know her since she use to sell in her house. Try the menudo and barbacoa you won’t regret it!“

“El Bodete had us feeling so grateful on our wedding day. We had them serve us for the solar eclipse and they did not disappoint. The food was absolutely spectacular, with everyone telling me this was some of the best Mexican food they have ever had. It almost made my brother want to move back to Texas ever since he left us for Colorado when he came in for the wedding. The team was extremely cordial, and understanding, we felt like family when we worked with them and they made sure my wedding party had everyone feeling satisfied. For the wedding we had the buffet set up for us, with fajitas, rice, beans, guacamole, queso, salsa, pico de gallo, and churros, and to help the folks with smaller appetites (or in this case the bride and groom because we had to run around so much and be props in photos) they also had tacos ready for us as well. We got fish, shrimp, and for our vegan/vegetarian friends, some cauliflower tacos as well that were absolutely amazing. The El Bodete team is a very talented staff of caterers and cooks, and I highly recommend not only going to their food truck on site, but to ask them to cater to your events as well. I know I will be doing so in the future.“

“I just stopped by this place because we needed a quick bite. Got the Duo Combo for me and the wife. The food and the service are both incredible. In and out very fast with fresh food. The guy operating it was extremely friendly. I’ll be going back regularly.“

“I came here strictly for Pupusas! After visiting El Salvador, and having indulged in way too many, I was still craving them when I got home so I stop by here! When I was putting in my order it was a little difficult as my Spanish is not that good but we got through it. I ordered my Pupusas. She let me know it was a 20 minute wait which was fine Just be aware it is a long wait as they are freshly filled, patted, and grilled to perfection right there when you order it. I've got the mixed Pupusas with Chicharrón, bean, and cheese. When I tell you, these are as authentic as they get, I mean it! They are delicious. You can tell they are really made with love, and I am here for it! They made a fan of me!!“
