“When we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated. It did take our server to get to us a good 10 minutes before talking and telling us what the concept and food recommendations were. The setting of the restaurant is clean, and airy due to the sun room setting on one side of the restaurant. To start us off, we did some drinks that were good but did not find any favourites. The two cold starters were: Hamachi Yuzu: 2/5 because the yuzu yoghurt was overpowering and the kombu powder left a sandy grit texture on the teeth that made it almost annoying to eat. Could barely taste the hamachi. Madai Carpaccio: 1/5 because the crunchy togarashi and black sesame soy sauce enveloped the Madai and the saucy component was too strong to complement the fish. Oyster with caviar was fresh and briny. Very tasty. 5/5. Would recommend avoiding the cold starters besides the oysters and moving straight to the nigiri and hot components of the menu. From the nigiri portion, we ordered: Hotate, salmon, gizzard shad, akami, amaebi and madai. Fresh, fatty, flavoursome cuts of delicious fish. Definitely recommend, 5/5. Also, tried the Olive A5 wagyu nigiri with black truffle and it was unctuous and absolute yum! From their hot portion, we got the baby back ribs, iberico shumai, and lobster with sake miso. The baby back ribs were falling off the bone, tender and seasoned to perfection. The shumai was good with a pipette of ponzu sauce. The lobster was rich, not overcooked and the panko with the miso sake lent it a Mac and cheese-esque quality to it. Would definitely get these again. For dessert go the Japanese melon which was sweet and juicy and had none of the chemical aftertaste that is found in the fruits here in the states. The green tea kakigori was airy and light. Usually not a fan of red bean ice cream or desserts but this one came with a really nice red bean ice cream. Would have liked the portion to be more to balance out the shaved ice. Overall it was a great time! Price wise it was affordable for the amount of food we ordered.“

“We popped in for an unplanned bite with friends. We didn’t have a reservation and I highly recommend one. We were glad to be gifted one hour given our resy gaffe. Our waitress was charming and attentive. As expected, our food was high quality and delicious. While one of my favorite nigiri fishes tends to be loup de mere, the kanpachi was the winner of the hour!“

“We were lucky enough to get the last service by Chef Jonathan. We had his Kobe fair well tour! And he made our experience amazing! We had recently had their parent restaurant Hidden Omakase and we enjoyed it but was recommended to try this joint for a lower price point and shorter meal.So for dinner they do 45 mins and they start on time so make sure you come a little early and take some pictures in the nft gallery out front. If you park it’s to the left of the Italian restaurant and has no signage.Once seated they get started right on the dot. But even though it’s a short service Jonathan explained what we were getting in great detail. We got better interaction here with the crew than at Hidden Omakase. It’s a younger group and more fun and lively. The Engawa was the best thing I have ever eaten at any sushi restaurant. This thing is life changing. And you’re able to get an extra piece as an a la carte add on. Do it!!! You will not regret it.My wife and I were so impressed, we will definitely be back and at this price point we can come more often.Best of luck on your next Journey chef Jonathan your skills will truly be missed here.“

“I went to Koi for the 2nd time last Saturday and it was just as delicious as the first time. I've been raving about it to everyone and my sister finally got to try it and said it was the best sushi in Houston and I agree. I was also the first to try the new revamped Dragonrita and let's just say I've found my new go to drink. I usually order the Lycheetini but the Dragonrita was so smooth you couldn't even taste the alcohol..dangerous, but absolutely delectable. The fish is so fresh and the dishes did not disappoint. Every single dish was amazing. We also ordered the Igageso and it was perfectly seasoned and wasn't tough at all.“

“One of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. They are relatively new so it’s a hidden gem. The quality of sushi, nigiri, rolls and all the dishes are steps above most other Japanese restaurants in the area, a close second to Kata but with better pricing and easier to get reservations. The space and ambiance is beautiful. We frequent this place with family, have been to a birthday party here, and it’s now a family favorite of ours. I have no clue why this place is not jam packed, especially during lunch given their great lunch menu.“

“Went on a Wednesday for all day Happy Hour with some friends. Had beer, wine and the omakase - this is an excellent spot, the service was impeccable even at the bar.Drinks were kept flowing, the sushi and the oysters on the omakase were to DIE for. I live in the area so super nice to have a great sushi place nearby.Highly recommend taking advantage of the HH here. Can’t wait to come back!“

“Very intimate dining experience to say the least! It actually took some time to even find this hidden gem. TINS completely exceeded my expectations from the ambiance to the amazing food. The omakase provides 14 courses with each bite better than the last! Each bite of fish was just so fresh and flavorful. The chefs really come up with the most unique and delicious sauces for each dish. The service is also impeccable. Overall, I had a fantastic time at this spot. The food was out of this world, and the drinks just kept coming. I can't wait to give them another try in the future!“

“Such a lovely sushi spot! It looks like a sweet older couple runs the whole show, from the kitchen and sushi station, to serving tables. They don't take orders over the phone so if you want to-go, you still have to wait your turn in person. Their menu is huge for just two people managing the entire restaurant. The sushi pieces are so big, so the rice ratio is sometimes too much but I don't mind. Their yellowtail and spicy scallop sushi were my favorites, I would definitely come back just for that. The tonkatsu rice was delicious too! The slightly crispy battered pork with egg and rice was such a comforting combination. The wait is a bit long but that didn't bother us or anyone around us. The sushi is 100% worth it!“

“TL,DR: Some of the best sushi in the Houston area, with super creative and tasty rolls! This hidden gem sushi spot is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in Sugar Land, TX and I’m so glad I tried it! Their sushi rolls IMO are in the upper echelon of quality for Houston sushi spots, especially when considering the relatively affordable price ($14-$16 per roll). Also, all of their rolls are plated and decorated very nicely, which definitely improves the experience as well. Will definitely be frequenting this place more often when I want sushi! Here’s what I ordered:-Suki Special Roll - shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with tuna, salmon, spicy crab, tobiko and green onion-Highway 6 Roll - unagi eel and fresh crab meat-Miu Miu Roll - fresh crab meat, tobiko fish roe, shrimp tempura, spicy mayo-Agedashi Tofu“
“Love how Neo pays attention to the smallest details to ensure a fine dining experience. The staff were attentive and respectful, Chef was knowledgeable and talented, and food was incredible. We went on 3/4/24 for the Sushi Omakase and our favorites were Masu, Madai Crudo, Maitake, and the Maguro Handroll. Highly recommend!“

“I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. I didn't have the time to sit down and eat but since I was in the area, I decided to pop in and get something to go. I got 3 rolls and an order of dumplings. All of them were so delicious. Lucky for me it was during happy hour and all of that only cost about 12 bucks. I will definitely be back. I really want to try their ramen!“

“I enjoyed my experience overall. The all you can eat menu has a lot of options and is totally worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend the ribs though, they are salty. The sashimi is awesome! My favorite is the pepper seared tuna. They had a 19 top table( prom kids) and still served us in a timely manner with kindness. We’ll def be back!“

“Service was top-notch, formidable and professional. The ambiance was relaxing with water and classical music playing in the background, I felt relaxed the whole time! I ordered steamed chicken with vegetables (bokchoy, mushroom, asparagus, broccoli and bell pepper) cooked in white wine. I had the lunch special which runs from 11-4pm everyday, and you have soup, side of rice and an appetizer to accompany. I chose the wonton soup which was delightful, delectable crab puffs and fried rice. I will say the only disappointment was the white rice. Soy sauce provided was not too spicy. I just wish it was a bit cleaner as our table had remnants of the previous party on the booth and the fried rice was a bit disappointing. It was lightly fried with no vegetables or much egg for that matter. I will have to return to try the fried menu items. My mother ordered the Beijing chicken which had a bit of spice and I tried it- slightly spicy and tad over-salted but would have paired better with steamed rice to balance it out. Overall, flavors were spectacular and the service here was some of the best I've had while dining in an Asian restaurant. They were even accommodating to a group who had a service dog.“

“Holy cow! This place was amazing we got sat in the corner window and the service was amazing. We had the sashimi chefs choice and it was remarkable. This place does sushi differently. Each piece has a unique taste in the sense that it'll have a herb or common flavor like jalapeño or citrus to complement the fish. It really makes them stand out - I will return!“

“Iwa Ya on Bellaire Blvd hit the spot for lunch today! The atmosphere was inviting, and the service was quick and friendly. We dove into their delicious spider roll, savoring the fresh ingredients and perfect texture. The katsudon was another winner, with its crispy pork cutlet and flavorful sauce. Even the miso and corn chowder soup impressed, offering a warm and comforting start to the meal. And to top it off, the prices were reasonable! Highly recommend Iwa Ya for a satisfying and enjoyable lunch experience.“

“Izakaya Wa is one of my top 3 favourite restaurants. All the food is so delicious and has a seasoned taste. I definitely recommend the torimune fried skewers, one order comes with 2 generously sized skewers, they were so good I had to get 3 orders! I also recommend the sushi dinner, all the fish is so fresh and the salmon has so much fat and the bluefin tuna was amazing also. You should definitely come here. I don’t live in Houston and whenever we come here for a couple days, we always come to Izakaya Wa.“

“I come here all the time and the services have been consistently excellent! They always fill my bowl to the brim and do not skim on toppings. “We had the assorted sashimi plate which comes with 32 (?) pieces, da bomb roll, and potato and corn and crab croquettes, also some temakis. It’s definitely worth the wait time, and they are mostly busy. We went on a Monday evening and had to wait ~15 mins but it went by faster than that. All good, fish is fresh for the most part and prices are so fair. Will be back again :)“

“General Description:A traditional Japanese restaurant. They have booths and a sushi bar.The space is on the smaller side. The good:- Tonkatsu Ramen: Broth was a bit different than most Japanese style ramen. I don't like fatty/heavy broth base. This one was on the lighter side.- Yellowtail sashimi was on the fresher side. The bad:- Chicken was rubbery.- Broccoli was overcooked.- Wasabi mix was watered down.Overall:Worth trying.“

“Going to an omakase has been on my bucket list for a while now and Oheya was a great first experience. It's owned by the Uchi franchise and is actually connected to the Uchi. The entrance is located on Grant Street. Valet parking is available or you can also self park in the parking garage at the Montrose Collective. The experience is very intimate with only about 12 seats per service. This allowed us to chat with the sushi chefs and learn more about the courses we were about to eat. You're immediately greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. The entire service felt very personalized and special. They took very good of my friend whose birthday we were celebrating. We had a good variety of courses, from crudo to nigiri. Some of my favorites from the night were the smoked trout belly, scallop, and sake confit. What was supposed to be a 15-course omakase turned out to be 17 courses. The head chef treated us to tamago which had the consistency of castella cake. It was slightly sweet and very fluffy. We also had miso soup as the last course before dessert. The broth was made using the fish bones from our omakase so nothing went to waste. They rotate their menu every few months so you'll have an entirely different experience if you dine again. As with most omakase experiences, it's on the pricier side but worth treating yourself to if you're a huge fan of sushi. Definitely check out Oheya for a wonderful and authentic omakase!“
