“Great jukebox and not outrageously expensive. Great crafts beers and great cocktails. Cool nautical vibe. Can’t wait to go back“

“Loved it here. My fries were great, and I super appreciate restaurants having an impossible-type burger on the menu. This is a place that reminds me of college & grad school. Dive bar energy. I wish the upstairs had been open—has a tiki vibe. People say the upstairs level is a dance floor…hard for me to imagine because it’s carpet!“

“Decent drinks. Outside seating area not so bad. Charles is pretty cool. Nice happy hour spot while you're waiting for traffic to die down after work. And of course, before you head out, visit the food truck right outside and fill the belly.“

“They ALWAYS have a good bourbon selection and the staff knows bourbon well.“
“A mixed bag for shows. The local shows are often great and well priced. The pegstar shows can get expensive.Drink selection is average, but pricing is amazing. 5$ can get you a shot and a beer. For food you can have chips. Seriously if you need food this aint the place unless a truck happens to be set up.The bartenders are friendly however due to the often live shows and noise you may need to write down your order on a whiteboard.Black Magic Social Club reminds me of the old dives and venues which are mostly gone these days. Cheap, fun and loud.“

“The bar has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I can tell it has its regulars and newbies like me. The bartenders are professional and friendly. The jello-shots come highly recommended, and they do deserve the praise given. And it is a must to have one or two of their frozen drinks, at $6 dollars, it's a great choice! Will definitely be going back anytime I'm downtown and want a great spot to relax at and have a drink.“

“Very chill outdoor bar. The bartenders are cordial and friendly.Except for a large awning in front of the bar, seating is all outdoors.Went for their BOGO Burger Tuesday deal with some friends. Everyone was happy with their burger choices, guy and the burgers are grilled to order. Really good selection of burgers to choose from. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a low-key casual, patio bar.“
“Nice environment and friendly people. Thanks to Missy Cook and Jerry Hunter for introducing us !“
“Every time I go here I am welcomed with old and new friends from the past and present. Sitting around drinking buckets of beers and staring at the awesome view of downtown Houston. This Eastside hang out is a must to go to. Chat with the locals and get the feel of old Houston like it used to be!!“

“It is rare to find a tiny, friendly, non-douchey bar in the inner loop in Houston to have one cocktail on your way home from work in the most walkable area of this city. This is one of few. It is also "local Houston." It's the way it used to be when many similar bars existed here. It is technically smaller than Manhatten bars in a town where EVERYTHING, including restaurant serving sizes, will feed four people on one entree. If you want to know this city for who it actually is, visit old-school mom-and-pop shops like this.“

“Top Notch music booking, and the rare hot venue in Houston you can still get a good drink for 5!? Alan Hill & Co. are honoring the 1957 legacy of the Austin Continental, while making this All About Houston! Check out Big Top Charlie's next door too!“

“Love this place. Everyone is great!!“
“Owner Mike is a tailor as well as a bartender. This bar was originally a tailor shop with bar added later and both have collectively been in operation for 88 YEARS!It is a very eclectic place with old style bar feel. One may also see someone walk into the bar for an alteration or have a suit made and have a drink in the process.Char Bar is a MUST for someone visiting downtown Houston. We just LUV IT!“
“Absolutely FANTASTIC. Great karaoke, great cheap drinks and wonderful service.“
“We gone rocc and roll. come see about us #TEAMUNITY2022 #therealmrbluejay“
“It is a quaint old fashioned place studded with Elvis memorabilia from a different time and there is also a pool table, but it feels more like entering into somebody's living room possibly because the owner is so nice and welcoming.Outside, there is a raised and covered area surrounded by actual rose bushes and they are blooming at this time so we were litterally sitting in a rose garden. The Rose Garden is the place to go if you are tired of trendy noisy bars and you want to try something different.“

“Nice Dirt place!! It’s a great place friendly bar tender. Jake!!“
“Was recommended by one of the staff members. Great spot, but some of the patrons seem to be very bias and disrespectfully opinionated. It could have been due to a recent prison release or just plain stupid. AWKWARD MOMENT. However, service and drinks were spectacular.“

“Had 2 bacon cheeseburgers tonight with tots and onion rings. Delicious homestyle burger and the sides were nice and crispy. The service was friendly and prompt. I will say this is a dive bar in the BEST way. Just regulars chillin on a first name basis with the bar tender lol. People spoke to us and were welcoming, which was nice. The place was VERY CLEAN, like literally the bar counter and floors did not have stray piece of trash, nothing was sticky, and the ladies' room was also clean and stocked. They do take credit cards and have pool tables. The only ding I will give is that they only serve beer, no liquor or wine when I was there. This is only an issue for me because I can't really drink liquor. But if you're a regular beer person, or you want a good burger, definitely give them a visit. We will be back.“

“Great Ice House! Very nice staff, many, many choices of traditional and craft brews. The Mexican food truck across the street that makes original Barbacoa. So go get some tacos and take them to the Ice House and get a couple of craft beers to drink with them.“
“I'm a sucker for a good neighborhood bar. Smoke-scented walls... dim, seedy lighting... bartenders that know your order just by looking at you. Sassafras is all that, plus some Hasselhoff razzle-dazzle. I usually only get a few hours out every other week, so I am that annoying customer who asks for creative shots to speed up the drunk process. The bartenders at Sassafras never miss a beat. They've whipped up some concoctions that would make even Baywatch-era David Hasselhoff blush (in a good way, of course). They're patient with my indecisiveness and always manage to send me on my way with a drink that's both potent and delicious. Two thumbs up for strong cocktails, chill vibes, and a staff that knows how to have fun.“
“Stopped in for drinks after dinner upstairs. Great fun little bar/joint. Enjoyed the place and the location. Parking can be a challenge due to the 3 locations to dine right there next to each other, but otherwise a good late night spot. The bar staff and wait staff were perfect and friendly. The ambiance is eclectic and unique. Definitely a good spot to hang and socialize.“
