The Bebedero

Travelled an hour away to experience downtown Charlottesville, and this was one of our stops on the list to check out. They had a dj and a pretty full house. Me and three other people were there and upon arrival me and my sister immediately went to the bathroom while our friends waited at the bar to get us drinks. There was only one stall in use and the line for the bathroom was out the door. A customer was trying to fix/unclog the “out of order” toilet. We met back with our friends and headed to the dance floor to have a good night and not even five minutes later, security walked up to us asking if we were sisters and saying someone called the owner complaining that we were starting trouble, even though we talked and stayed to ourselves the whole time being there. Chad was very nice and apologetic and handled the situation very well and escorted us out. But there was no explanation as to why or who? We won’t ever return here and I highly recommend not wasting your money at a place where the owner treats paying customers this way over a said “phone call” and not looking into the situation before making any decisions. As stated before we’re not from the area and don’t know anyone. I do however highly recommend rapture, great service and vibes for the whole place!

My husband took me here recently (9/26) for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, it was a bust from beginning to end. I ordered a drink called El Dick, The Salty Southerner. My husband ordered a regular margarita. My drink was supposed to have bourbon in it. Literally tasted like watered down juice and no alcohol. The waitress said something about the drink being “clarified” and so it takes away the color of the bourbon. What’s the point of getting a bourbon drink if you can’t even taste the bourbon?? I returned it and got a regular margarita. We each had two margaritas. They were very watered down and not very good. My husband makes better margaritas at home. When we finally got our meal, it was very mediocre. I ordered El Pastor tacos and my husband got the steak tacos. The meat was very dry and overcooked. We didn’t even finish them. We get better tacos from the Tacos Gomez food truck on Pantops. I love Tres Leches cake, so I ordered this for dessert after being told that they make it in house. Even the cake was disappointing. It was very dry and smothered with whipped topping. The only way I was able to eat some of it was because of the whipped topping and a little sauce drizzled on the plate to combat with the dryness of the cake. When the waitress asked how I enjoyed the cake, I was honest and told her it was the worst Tres Leches cake I’ve ever had. She said she had never had anyone else complain about the cake in the 6 years that she’s been there and the owners were from….(I forget where). My husband paid in cash and when he got his change back, it was all in one dollar bills….74 of them! When the waitress slid the change back to my husband, she said something like “Sorry, we didn’t have any larger bills”. Mind you, the place was very busy, so I’m sure she only gave him all of the single bills because I complained about my drink and the cake. My husband still tipped her well, even though we will never go back due to our overall experience. We left there and went to get a real drink at a proper bar, laughing at all of the ones he pulled out of his pocket!

It was simply a great experience. Our family loved it. We aren’t local but you are our favorite Charlottesville restaurant.
