“nowadays, when hot pot restaurants come to mind, AYCE hot pot locations are most prevalent. this location does hot pot a little different -- all sets come with a predetermined platter of noodles & veggies (napa, enoki mushroom, spinach, broccoli, carrots, tofu, glass noodles, udon), and the price of what you order is determined by what course you order (beef, chicken, seafood, veggie). it's a good introduction to hot pot if you haven't had it before food: you can pick broth upgrades for a price. i picked spicy miso + tonkotsu, and i really liked it. i got the standard beef (9 pieces): it was a whole plate of thinly sliced beef. i have an allergy to peanuts, so i only received the ponzu sauce. the other has sesame and peanut sauce. the ponzu pairs excellently with the hot pot course. you also get a bowl of rice, which i was surprised by (growing up, i never really had rice with hot pot) ambiance: i really liked the decor. it felt a little bit like a bar with its dimmer lighting and neon lighting. was not expecting the seating to be entirely like a bar, so best for small parties. service was prompt and friendly!“

“My long awaited review... so sorry to whoever served me that day because it's been a bit and I've forgotten your name (apologies please). This is my 5th time eating at Gyu Shige as my last two times were in the Rockville location. It was a busy night but my server was quick and responsive by bringing our requested meat dishes, and explaining their personal favorites for drinks and appetizers. Restaurant setting, in my opinion, has been the same, with conversations left and right --truly withholding the essence of Japanese bbq which is enjoying the fine meats cooked for you but also chatting with friends and family. For anyone who seems to be stuck on the price. You just have to understand that "you get what you pay for" meaning every dime you spend on this meal, the experience and food are definitely worth while. That's all I have to say and I hope other people have the same positive experience I had!“

“Absolutely outstanding! From the moment you step in, the atmosphere captivates with its charm - a solid 10/10. But it's not just the ambiance that impresses; the food presentation is simply beautiful, and the taste is excellent. I've dined at similar places, but none have left a mark like this one. Plus, the value for what you get is great. Can't wait to return with my family for another wonderful experience!Parking: lots of parking available in garage or street, very convenient“

“Heard great things about this sushi spot, so finally made a visit. The sushi was fresh and very good! A large selection of different fishes and daily specials. The apps and ramen were good, but nothing out of this world. Our server was also great as well, walking us through the best things to get. Apps: Takoyaki and Tempura Entrees: Assorted Sushi/Sashimi and Tonkotsu Ramen“

“Very cool interior design and huge shout out to the staff for how friendly they are. They gave us free cheesecake bites at the end of the meal and were incredibly attentive while my friend and I ate.The sushi was pretty good but the chicken and noodles dish was just middling. Good place if you're in the area but not exactly destination dining.“

“The service and atmosphere were good, but I would rate the sushi rolls just 3.5 stars. I don’t think they were made very well because the rice was uneven and the rolls were loose/easily broken. Some rolls were better than others, but unfortunately the salmon skin in its namesake roll was overfried to the point of losing its flavor. Other stuff, like fried soft shell crab, was ok.“

“Chirashi bowl here is my favorite. It's assembly is so pretty and it's very filling. The variety and quality of fish is really good! Service is fast and accommodating even when busy. My dad's allergic to egg, so they make sure to avoid adding imitation crab in his dish. Ambiance is casual and comfortable for any occasion dining. Seatings a bit cozy because it's a bit smaller size restaurant, but it doesn't feel too claustrophobic.“

“Lunch today with a group of people. I ordered Bento Box C (includes: 6-piece California roll, shrimp and vegi tempura, bulgogi (other choices are beef or salmon teriyaki), rice and a miso soup and small salad appetizer). ($18) The Bento Box was very good. A nice variety of things to try, with plenty to eat. The tempura coating was light and the flavor of the shrimp, green bean and sweet potato came through well, the bulgogi had a nice flavor and the miso soup was good. The small salad could have used more dressing and the California roll was fine - not great. Service was very good. Water glass was kept full (I drink a lot of water) and the wait staff handled the 7-checks at the end of the meal promptly and without complaint. The sushi and other entrees that my lunch partners got looked good. I recommend you give the place a try.“

“The thing I miss most about living in Virginia is this place. The best AYCE sushi for the price. My husband and I loved the drive. I was less than an hour but it's worth every minute when you get to eat here. Maybe we will be back one day.“

“I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento, which came out to a little over $27 after tax. Seemed a bit steep. The food came out beautifully presented and it was all very good, so I cannot complain too much, just a bit on the expensive side, even with inflation and being Northern Virginia. Service was friendly and the food didn't take terribly long to prepare. The California roll it came with did taste like it was high quality.“

“This a great option for something filling for a great price! We ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi, chicken and salmon hibachi, chicken dumplings, shrimp tempura roll, and 2 extra yummy sauces and paid $32. Quick and polite service! We were starving and ate the sushi and dumplings on the way home but the shrimp tempura roll was my favorite! It was warm and crunchy but I think that’s intended since it’s fried but I loved it especially with the pickled ginger. My food was filling and so good I ate the majority of it without the yummy sauce in the car lol. No regrets stopping here for quick to go dinner!“

“Part II: Viva Korean Cuisine!!!! Let me tell you, the Bulldog had just downheartedly left another Korean Joint (Breakers - aka Imposters) at Fair Oaks Mall (see Part I) wondering if all the amazing Korean food that I had at my friends' houses growing up was just an illusion. But I didn't give up, I persevered into this hidden diamond-in-the-rough, BBQ 21, where my love for everything Korean was rekindled with splendid fervor!!! Spicy Soup - Red, intricate and amazing, Bulgogi flavorful juicy and succulent, rice fluffy and sticky, dumplings were tasty/greasy/flavorful, veggies were so g-damn fresh and spicy I almost filled up on them, fresh condiments with interesting spices that dance on a wide-range on your palette. Would have given 5/5 if my can of Diet Coke wasn't flat, but everything else was top-notch and I suspect - was cooked with love for the game - masterful. I finished stuffed and satisfied. Verdict: I'll DEFINITELY be back...“

“Japanese owned and operated. My family has been going here for years. Quality is always great. Lots of options for sushi and non-sushi lovers! Service can sometimes get backed up when very busy. They have a private area in the back for semi-large groups. Recommend a reservation for that.“

“Loved the food. I got the salmon Lover sushi entree. So much quality salmon and they have a pickled something on top of them that were yummy. Really good spicy salmon roll too. My boyfriend had the Tonkatsu (pork), which was yummy. Both were large portions - at least two meals. The bench in the booth needed repair and the service was occasionally slow, but still in love because of the quality of the food.“

“We've been here twice and both times everything has been outstanding from the service to the food. Great for families and kids. Always a fun time. We will definitely be going back. For those that want sushi, they make it fresh and have a robot that brings it to your tables. Decent bar as well. Located minutes from George Mason University.“

“My second time here and I would definitely recommend. Service is quick and it's an easy going atmosphere. Located in the Mosaic district, there both street parking and garage parking. My husband ordered a bottle of sake. We also ordered the Chicken Karage and Sexy Jalapeño as a starter. We decided to do the Love Boat for Two. Overall, a decent price and would definitely recommend! Everything was delicious.“

“Absolutely great sushi and great service! Ordered the dragon roll, salmon lover roll, volcano roll, and 2 California rolls. Everything was perfect. We ordered take out after eating there several days prior (second pic with flying dragon roll). I’d say the price is very reasonable for such delicious and fresh sushi. Service was excellent. Will be our go to place for both dine in and take out!“
