“My husband and I stopped for a late lunch, and were happy to find an updated menu of diner favorites with some creative additions. We shared a dinner portion of oysters plus a Chesapeake burger, both of which were perfectly prepared. The oysters were huge and succulent with a very light breading. They were accompanied by fries and Cole slaw, with cocktail and tartar sauce on the side. The burger was cooked medium rare as I requested, and was especially tasty since it was topped with lump crab meat, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I got it with sweet potato fries, which were dusted with a touch of cinnamon and were a perfect side kick for the burger. We ended up taking home about half of each meal because we wanted to leave room for ice cream It just seems wrong to leave a well-preserved early 20th century diner with a soda fountain and counter seating without having some sort of ice cream! We were pretty full, so we shared a hot fudge sundae, which was definitely big enough for us both. It had vanilla ice cream, a generous portion of hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and two cherries (since we were sharing). We had a choice of wet nuts or peanuts, and I chose peanuts, as the salty flavor is a nice complement to the sweetness of the rest. Overall, we enjoyed this visit and hope to come back. I'd like to try the Caprese Burger and maybe have more oysters. They offer gluten free buns as an option, which is a helpful touch as well. Whether you live in Matthews or are just traveling through, it's worth a stop.“
