Disappointed with the steaks. All three steaks we ordered were served medium when we ordered medium rare. The quality of the steaks was good. The sear on the steaks wasn't great. At the price of the steaks, we expected better. It wasn't a big enough gap to send them back, but made a note not to return. I did really enjoy the blue cheese butter topping at a $3.50 add on. The veggies were delicious. Service was good, and the atmosphere was nice. Parking lot was too small, parked a block away. Also I loved that we didn't feel rushed and were able to hang out for a while and chat while finishing wine.Parking: Parking lot was full Tuesday at 7pm. parked a block away on street for free.

In our opinion, the restaurant really needs a refresh. Sunken seat cushions, scratched tables, etc. the server was fine; the food not so much. It's been a local favorite for years, but it just doesn't work for us much anymore. To be fair, we usually go when we get our birthday emails, 20% off, etc, but it's just less and less a place where we want to spend our money. The first booth in which we were seated, besides the seat cushion, we could smell tve bathroom cleanser. Not very appetizing. Sorry to write this, but you asked.

Brunch buffet menu is extensive; see it on their website. Most all of the items were very fresh. Oysters on half shell were plentiful and very good, and this is not something you often find on buffets. Dessert choices were not great, so don't save room for that. Service was excellent, refilling our drinks/coffee often and keeping our table clear of used dishes. Good value here. Go. You won't be disappointed.

We have been dining at J. Gilberts for DECADES and know it is the place to go for special occasions or just to enjoy a fine meal served with ambiance. This occasion was an opportunity for our family to get together to celebrate an important milestone for a grandchild, and I made the reservations with J. Gilberts as soon as I knew they would all be in town. I did have to change the reservation to include MORE family as the time approached for our get together. I contacted Marsha and she assured me she could accommodate 12 people, it was not problem, and we agreed on the time. The day of, we were escorted to a private room that seated all of us comfortably, was set with flowers, and we were assisted by two waitstaff who were discreetly distant, yet attentive. We could hear each other and chat back and forth and ENJOY our time, and were NEVER rushed or pushed. We spent a very important 2.5 hours with our loved ones we don't get to see very often, and have the memories of good food, good conversation, and stellar service to remember always. It was worth every penny, every phone call, and we are SO appreciative of all the staff at J. Gilberts, INCLUDING the wonderful chefs who prepared our delicious food. WE WILL BE BACK.

The food was not suitably prepared for the price. Crab soup and wedge salad were excellent. Steaks were overcooked. Medium filets were well done. Sides were not fresh and barely warm. Desserts were big portions. Server was very pleasant. Several items on the menu were not available. Overall when you spend $100 per person, you expect excellence!
We had our anniversary dinner at this fine-dining-style restaurant a while ago, and the dining experience was great. Top-notch service, excellent baby back ribs that were finger-licking good, and sea scallops with risotto that were delicious with subtle saltiness. The recommended wines paired well with the dishes, but the cake was dry. Overall, we were satisfied and will come back.

Yesterday we went to J Gilbert’s with party of 13, we spent over a thousand dollars and were very disappointed with the food that arrived and server didn’t do much to fix the concern or follow up on it. The dining experience was marred by inconsistencies in meal preparation. Several members of our large party received steaks cooked inaccurately, which was disappointing considering the high expectations and the significant expenditure. Additionally, portions of asparagus fell short of expectations. For an establishment of this caliber, attention to detail in food preparation and portion consistency should be a given.
