This is the fourth time we’ve gone to The Bier Garden, and I doubt we’ll be back. It seems the front of house doesn’t know what is going on in the kitchen and vice versa. After waiting an hour after ordering our food, our waitress told us they were out of chicken. My wife revised her order. We explained we had already been waiting an hour, and the waitress responded that the kitchen was short-staffed. About 15 minutes later our waitress made another appearance (unsolicited), and said that the hostesses should have told us it was going to be a long wait. At this point, we were beyond frustrated being there for an hour and 15 minutes with a toddler and having a reservation. We asked for our check and said we would leave. Our waitress said our food would not be ready until a larger group had been served. Then, suddenly, our food appeared after our waitress went to the kitchen. The food was fine (although my wife’s Reuben and fries were cold). There was a better way to handle this in terms of service recovery. Nobody seemed in charge at the restaurant—no manager or operational direction. It’s a shame because the food has always been good and service okay. But this experience left us happy to spend our money anywhere else.

My wife and I drove an hour and 45 minutes to try The Bier Garden and we were not disappointed! Very friendly staff, attentive and quick service. The food was great! The "small" pretzel is still pretty big, the fried mushrooms were huge! We tried the rouladen (thin steak with mustard wrapped around pickle, onion & bacon), blaukraut (red cabbage), spätzle (a type of dense egg noodle), bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes and onions). My German wife was very happy and agreed that everything was delicious! Oh, and the gift shop is awesome too! Many awesome items and authentic foods. I was hoping my wife would find some things that reminded her of her childhood in Germany and she absolutely did. As an American who has never been to Germany it gives me a chance to try these things too. Just an all around cool place. I definitely recommend giving it a try!
