“We were celebrating a birthday, and asked for a quiet table, and we were seated in the Wine Room, and it was perfect. We shared a calamari appetizer, and had halibut and crab cakes for the entrees. We shared key lime pie for dessert, and the restaurant provided a special birthday dessert. Service was excellent, and the food was delicious.“

I had the salmon trio (smoked salmon, salmon tartar, and salmon roe) for an appetizer and sea bass for my entree. My husband had the wonderful onion soup for an appetizer and the crab cake, scallops, and shrimp for his entree. He was able to get the dish minus scallops as he is allergic to them!! “Ellie Bird has been on our list to try since they opened. Like their sister restaurant Rooster & Owl, the menu is both refined and rustic, with an emphasis on small plates great for sharing. We went for dinner and ordered the bread basket, spring green salad, Vietnamese french onion soup, salted cod rangoons, pomelo larb, braised lamb shank and chocolate cake. The pineapple buns are a carry over from Rooster & Owl that I’d happily eat with every meal. The Vietnamese french soup is aptly named, a wonderful combination of richly aromatic braised oxtail broth reminiscent of a fabulous pho with the oniony, cheesy, crouton goodness of a classic french onion. The rangoons are a perfect execution of an American Thai staple and the pomelo larb burst with flavor. The lamb shank, expertly cooked and glazed, was easily split between the two of us and sat on a bed of herbaceous tabouleh.A delay in getting us to our seats at the chefs counter resulted in several comped plates throughout the meal and we were very grateful for the above and beyond. The asparagus and pine berry salad added to our starter course was a true delight, who knew they were such a good pair!I’ll be interested to see how the restaurant continues to evolve. While Rooster & Owl remains our go-to for special occasions, we will absolutely come back to Ellie Bird with friends and family in tow and certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.“

The comfortable seating and airy space with high ceilings give us a unique experience that other restaurants don't provide. “It was definitely busy, but not overcrowded for Mother’s Day. The service was nothing short of excellent. We got our drinks from the bar exceptionally quick. They were fantastic as well. We were never without anything we needed as the wait staff was extremely attentive. Two managers came up to our table to apologize for the “food delay” except none of us felt we were waiting long. To them, it was too long and that shows how much they pride themselves in service. To us it felt like a normal day at a busier restaurant. Our food was outstanding. The Maui salad was also excellent, with perfectly seared tuna, but had a very large salad portion. Only small down was my wife asked for the dressing on the side, and it came in two separate very tiny portions, maybe a tablespoon each at best…for a huge salad. Had to ask for more, and our server again brought two more tiny portions, which was then enough. Not sure how it would have come if we had not asked for the dressing on the side, one seemed to be for the tuna, the other for the actual salad itself. Either way, very good, but a very large salad, a bit too much for lunch.Again, very much enjoy coming here.Will I come back…absolutely!Would I recommend …most definitely!“

Our server (and others passing) was/were fantastic but we did sit at the bar and not at a table. This was a choice that we consciously made because we were celebrating our 19th anniversary sans children. Intimacy. A few reviews complain about price or the lack of selections on the menu. All we can say is: post-COVID prices have gone up significantly but that is true for everything that we, as a community, consume today. It might be harder to stomach the price increases for discretionary expenses like a fancy meal. In any event, please do not expect 1980s or even 2019 prices. Secondly, yep, it is pricey, but it is worth every centime. The "limited" menu is what really good restaurants do, not to gouge you, but to spoil you with a core set of dishes that will tantalite the palate of almost every true gourmand. NUE hits the mark rather well. Finally, one kink in the armor, is how food is served today and how waitstaff interact with customers. Partly caused by the clash of generations, e.g., servers and the served may have 30 to 40 years between them, partly because due to COVID the new wave apparently did not get to learn from the OGs who did not return to the hospitality business sector, and is likely partly due to the pace of life in the DMV as practiced by folks with maybe too much money. That service process part needs to be ironed-out, but it is not just an issue at NUE, but at most, if not all, DMV fine food establishments. We, for one, will be back to NUE very soon. We just need to save up for it and we won't have to wait a year.“

I ordered salmon with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. For dessert, we had some type of chocolate espresso cake and cheesecake. Omg all of it was so delicious. They found a table for us within 10 minutes even though they were quite full on the Saturday before Mother's day. The host took our order shortly after and the waiter was very pleasant throughout. The food came out hot and was delicious. We ordered the seafood platters and the seafood was so fresh with a light batter. The calamari appetizer and shared bread pudding dessert were delicious. We started with a delicious miso soup with a well-balanced miso and bonito broth. It had a savory taste that we both enjoyed. We also tried the Mari Mari Roll, a signature house roll consisting of shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, and avocado, topped with baked scallops - it was incredible! We ordered a sushi and sashimi combo for two, a Chirashi bowl, and two pieces of chef's special Uni Hokkaido. The Uni Hokkaido had a burst of ocean fragrance in the mouth with a subtle sweetness, and it was just perfect. All the dishes came with high-quality fresh fish that were firm and shiny, indicating that they were fresh, and everything was delicious as each bite melted in our mouths! The service was excellent, and the interior ambiance was modern and stylish, with dim lighting and jazz music playing in the background. It made our lunch a unique and delightful experience.“

“Words cannot express how happy we are that we discovered this hidden gem when we were simply looking on impulse for an Indian restaurant after a long day. The name seemed familiar from one we had eaten at in Falls Church that was a favorite of ours. And we were pleasantly surprised that they are owned by the same people. The staff here were just as courteous, helpful and efficient making sure our drinks stay full, the plates were cleared away and coming to check on how everything was. The whole experience from the presentation of the food, the portions, the quality of the ingredients, how well it was seasoned and cooked and the pricing for what you get which is a lot was right on mark in every way. We could taste the effort and love that goes into their cooking and how much they take pride in what they do. I think the food is just a bit better seasoned than their other location too. Everything tasted amazing and had our taste buds singing. We could not have asked for a better experience both times we were there for lunch and dinner and we feel most welcomed when we are there. They are wonderful proof that good food traverses boundaries and cultures amd brings people together as also witnessed by the other happy diners there of various ethnicities. Definitely on our list of places to go to and another local business we plan to support very often.Vegetarian options: I personally enjoyed the vegetable pakora, plain saag and chana masala. The only thing that could be better would be a mixed vegetarian option on their main menu either as a entree or appetizer so I could explore more vegetarian dishes before committing to just one.Dietary restrictions: I enjoyed the facts that they were gluten free, nut free and dairy free options as there are times I'm unable to consume these if I'm having digestive issues.Parking: There are quite a few food places as well as a smaller Walmart so parking can be a little challenging though we had no problems finding spots.“

“Kilroy's has been our go-to restaurant since it opened! We love the acoustics in the dining room - carpeting, booths, etc., and the food has never disappointed. As a person with a hearing loss, acoustics are very important, and I can enjoy conversation in a booth here along with the good food. Burgers are the best, the roast beef tender, and the onion rings are fabulous. Mandarin chicken salad is my go-to for lunch. Good family spot, too. All ages welcome.“

Also had a half-pound of crawfish, since I've never tried them before. Though if I had to give one complaint, it's that the crabby pho didn't have a spicier option.
