“Just the best taco place in the area. Creative, unique, and incredibly flavored tacos. The charred broccoli taco and all their seasonal vegetarian tacos are always incredible. I’d strongly recommend this place to people like myself who love a traditional Al pastor/carne asada taco, they have fantastic meat options and you will be very impressed the veggie options - and you absolutely must come if you are vegetarian/vegan. My only complaint is that they aren’t open enough for how much I crave their food.“

“I absolutely adore Arzimendi! I've been to this location and the Valencia st location in SF and everytime I go, I am reminded of how much I love it. The baked goods are delicious and affordable. “The polenta and blueberry muffins are out of this world. That being said, one day they made polenta and raspberry muffins. I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but I actually like those better. Either way, you have to try them!! Every Friday my coworkers and I treat ourselves. The best ever!!“

“My 8 year daughter and I were referred here from a social worker at Oakland Children's Hospital. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac 8months ago. To say she was absolutely pleased with their selections and overall delicious subs is an understatement. “I had the best red lentils I've ever tasted here. The vegetable wot is especially good, well seasoned greens, cabbage, corn, etc. on injera. And the parking's good, especially for Berkeley. My companion and I each got parking spots right in front of the restaurant.“

“This mac and cheese is perfect- PERFECT. When I'm not in the area, I cry. I got the cookbook for Christmas a couple of years ago and that can tide me over but of course, I'd rather it come from the OG. My absolute favorites are the pesto mac or pizza mac - both of which will rotate on and off the menu. A crunchy top is a necessity. “Service was good and kind. I had lamb meatballs, mussels, carbonara. Lamb meatballs were best lol mussels were just regular tasty but fries came with mussels were better than main menu. We asked more baguette for left over mussels sauce. ServerRefilled a lot of baguette. Carbonara tastes like instant ramen:0 Don't order that.I would recommend lamb meatballs and fries.“

“I like saucy pizza, which is why I like Heshers. We were first introduced to the pizza when we used to come to crooked city cider. Now heshers has taken over the whole building in a prime area of Jack London Square. We came at opening time, 12 PM on a rainy Saturday for a friends birthday. Because it is a rainy weekend we had to change our outdoor plans and this is a great location for a large group with dogs who can hang out indoors. Also great because you order at the counter and don't have to deal with a group check mess. We ordered our drinks at the counter, and some people who were able to try small tastings if they were unsure of what to order. Pizza was ordered at the window in the corner and brought out to us according to our numbers. The staff was accommodating to our large group, and we were the only ones there until a Meetup took over the other half of the restaurant with their boardgames. There are also tons of boardgames in the cabinet that you can play and pinball machines in their own separate area, along with the pool table. Great place to keep entertained while enjoying your pizza, beer, wine, cider, kombucha, or nonalcoholic beverage. There is a water station right behind the cashier. There are two unisex restrooms, straight back. They have the little locks that tell you if they are in use or vacant, which is very helpful. They also do some heavy metal concerts here, which my husband was very excited about when he saw the listings for them. While we were there, the music was not very loud so we were able to chat freely. There are metered parking, free parking streets, or it is a walk down from 12th St. BART. They used to have a free Broadway shuttle, I'm not sure if that's still exists Join their social media pages and you'll be informed of special events, concerts, trivia, bingo, and what not. Our vegan friend is very happy that they have a vegan pizza option here. There is something for everyone! You can help bus your tables by taking empty glasses to the front and the rest of the trash area. There are benches in the front that you can hang out at if it's a nice day out.“

“Literally my FAVORITE place in the world! I have been dining here for over a decade and today was the first time I ever experienced brunch! It. was. DELICIOUS. Everyone is so friendly, there was even live music. Such a special place with so much intention in everything.“

“I've lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and ate at Southie for the 1st time on 2/27. It is incredibly good and a good value. The service is fine dining standard where bottles are presented and napkins folded when a guest is away from the table.The food is prepared with a dedication to quality as well, oysters were shucked perfectly, dishes all were extremely flavorful and tastefully presented.I will definitely be back, it's the type of restaurant that you can stop in for a satisfying snack or a whole meal.Thank you Southie employees for the memorable experience.“

“My husband is from Switzerland and he's been here for 10 years. He was pleasantly suprised by the authenticity of the food ( it was wundebar! ) and we enjoyed it along with the German dark beer. The Apple Strudel and old fashioned vanilla ice cream hit the spot! We were lucky to get a romantic window seat right by the water and off to the back a little, and it was perfect. “This place is one of my favorite in the Bay area. The quality has been remarkably consistent over the past year and every dish I've tried has been very good. The khichari got me through COVID.I am really not a fan of picking up from here because it's always packed with delivery drivers; making parking difficult and talking to the staff quite frustrating. My mitigation strategy is to wait at the window that's to the right of the front door so they see you when they come up.Even though the above is frustrating, the food is always worth it. “Great drip coffee! I wish I had asked what beans they used. My stomach is sensitive so I don’t drink coffee often but this 12 oz drip I got was so flavorful! Also some very tasty pastries, my friend and I got the caramelized onion and mushroom croissant and I definitely want to try the guava one the next time I go. Friendly service and a cute neighborhood spot. Not really a sit down space, but they do have outdoor seating for people to use while they wait or if it’s just two of you. Great place to grab coffee and a bite and then take a little walk by the lake.“

“This is a place of culture.. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was playing as we walked in. Everything was good from noodle texture to individual ingredients. Also dig the layout and interior design of the restaurant. Their exterior design is pretty unassuming, which makes the interior design that much better.Side note: The website hasn't been updated so the prices were a bit higher than expected. Still reasonable considering how bad prices are in Bay Area.“

“My favorite Easy Bay cafes for working during lockdown - #1, Hudson Bay One of the things I miss the most during lockdown is having a place to get coffee and work for a while – yes, I know I’m not alone there ;) So I’m going to share my very favorite places to work during lockdown – i.e., cafes that have a fair amount of outdoor seating (and preferably decent Wi-Fi coverage too). The Hudson Bay café was a fairly regular haunt for me during normal times, and during lockdown it’s running pretty well with lots of safety precautions: Perspex screens, sanitizer, and a window counter if you don’t want to walk inside. Staff members were super-friendly as usual and there’s always good music playing (it’s faint outside, so I could just barely hear The Smiths and The Weeknd drifting out through the side door). One thing to note is that the prices are very reasonable – my veggie burrito cost an amazing $7 (or maybe $7.50) – and it had guac in there too! And it was big! I also had an oat milk latte and a slice of pound cake and the whole tab was around $14. For comparison, I paid the same amount at another place this week for a coffee, cookie and plain croissant. Lockdown Stats: • Seating: There are about 6 tables outside and chances are reasonable that you’ll get a spot. If you’re stuck without a seat you can hang out on a bench outside the library across the street. • Bathroom: Another good thing about going to Hudson Bay to drink a lot of coffee – the bathroom is open! It’s surprising how many cafés have no bathroom availability after selling you a big old cup of diuretic! • Hours: Note that they close at 5 pm at the moment, not 6, but they’ll let you linger till maybe 5:30. • Weather: Hudson St. faces southwest, so it’s often pretty warm, even around closing time! • Budget: As mentioned above, Hudson Bay is one of the cheapest places around (esp. on College Ave.) to get lunch. I’m also giving the Hudson Bay Café 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on this: • Very longstanding independent café and community gathering spot. • Coffee beans come from McLaughlin roasters in Emeryville - another East Bay staple. • Some of McLaughlin’s coffee varieties are organic and most are bought directly from cooperatives or family farms that support communities. • It kind of goes without saying that plant-based milks are available – and raw turbinado sugar too. • The menu is a bit more traditional but there are a few veggie and vegan options. I think they’ll also make veggie/vegan mods to a menu item, if you ask, since everything is cooked to order. • There’s not a lot of info available about Hudson Bay’s sourcing of ingredients – my feeling is that the owners want to keep things as unpretentious as possible. Since it’s lockdown I’m not going to bust their balls over it :D • Waste is minimized pretty well, even during lockdown when most places are loading on the plastic. “This stunning, hidden gem is really the perfect place to host your (smaller) party in Oakland! The room was just right for our 90 guests at my daughter's bat mitzvah, with a glorious sun set over Lake Merritt as we danced up a storm! Highly recommended. Byron and Candi are great to work with, also.“

We used one of those paired with some salami and Humboldt Fog cheese that we had gotten from the deli next door and made an absolutely scrumptious sandwich.Only one minor critique is that they didn't have a slicer or a way to open the bread so I was forced to use my hands when it came to opening them.“
