“The food was good, but the restaurant had kind of a weird smell to it. The service was good, I got my to go order daily quickly. I got a bulgogi bento box and a drink and my total was 22 dollars. I thought it was kinda steep but I was able to make 2 meals out of the food so I guess it wasn't that expensive if you think about it? The breaded shrimp was good, the California roll also and the bulgogi had good flavor“

“This place had so many great reviews and I'm within walking distance - How could I not try it? Staff was attentive/interested in my experience of the food. Menu was definitely interesting. I was glad that one of my dishes was not too cloying by being OVER dressed, but it could have used a little more of its vinaigrette or something to tie it together a TAD more. Another dish was perfectly cheesy, a wagyu empanada of sorts. The food tasted clean, which is always better than cloying. Was it as outstanding or remarkable/memorable as everybody said in other reviews? I didn't have that experience but maybe because I wasn't having any cocktails. :-) A drink and a little buzz can always make a dining experience taste and feel even better. ? I know food prices have gone way up, and I'm a generous tipper, but it came up to almost 50 for two appetizers. I do think the appetizers were fairly portioned.“

“Incredibly impressed with kodo! We found kodo via an Instagram post and immediately decided to book it. The atmosphere & design were relaxing, minimalist, and spa-like in nature. The staff was friendly when we walked in and led us to a beautiful table in the courtyard. They have heaters and are very attentive to offering one to your table. Our server was fantastic, attentive, friendly, gave excellent recommendations and guidance on the menu - and didn't rush us! We're typically fast diners but were encouraged to relax and enjoy our post-dinner drinks. Drinks Lychee Martini with vodka was so light, crisp, and not too sweet. Sake was light and floral and they do an over-pour into a cute wooden box. Espresso Martini was the perfect post-dinner treat for my husband and the Umelicious was perfect for me! Food Crispy Rice - was one of the best crispy rice orders I've ever had, the mixed potato into the tuna which adds a great savory flavor. Croquettes - were a showstopper, you really taste the blue crab, but the fried eggplant marinara was the star for me. Ribeye - perfectly cooked medium rare, good fat, with a great dipping sauce. Risotto - so tasty, consistency semi-similar to congee, the pork belly was cooked beautifully melt-in-your-mouth, and I loved the curry sauce. Highly recommend for a unique menu, super friendly service, and a beautiful atmosphere!“

“Lovely little hole in the wall in Boyle Heights! Obviously this place is very well known for being some of the oldest and most traditional food in LA and it deserves its local fame. Definitely worth a stop for a home-cooked, cozy meal. Owner was also super cute, she knew many regulars by name and was very kind. Parking was not great, area wasn't that great either but no surprises there.“

“Hidden away in the city of Los Angeles is this amazing bar that serves one of the tastiest omakase. Entering the bar, you see a bar top that seats approx 10-12 people, with a open kitchen vibe. My partner and I had a great time. The Sunday crew was very nice and attentive, engaging with the customers and making things fun! The selection of fish was amazing, definitely a different experience compared to other omakase establishments I've been to.Parking was very easy since they provided easy simple instructions on their website :). Will definitely visit again on a Sunday ??Parking: Easy to access garage and the elevator close by. Very nice :)“

“Every dish was melt in your mouth good. Some of the best sushi I’ve had at this price point. Will definitely come back, highly recommend. The shop is a smaller spot and a bit unassuming, but the food speaks for itself. The staff were also extremely friendly, allowing us to move some tables around to meet our groups needs when they weren’t too busy. Really appreciate the visit here.“

“I bought it and ate it the next day. But It‘s very delicious and the ingredients are so fresh??Despite its king size and a lot of toppings, i didn’t spill and easy to eat when I ate it with one hand. Plus, it‘s a reasonable price! I think I can eat it every day.??“

“Sushi being one of my favorite foods, I’ve had it enough to tell the difference between great, good, and mediocre. This restaurant makes good enough sushi for the price, and because they had a pretty clean dining area (got takeout though) plus service was great, I would recommend it for casual sushi lovers. But if you’re looking for THE sushi place, it’s probably not this one.Side note; if debating between a regular cold roll or a baked roll, go for the regular roll. I had both types, and preferred the rainbow roll over the baked salmon one.“

“This place is a GEM! The sushi is so fresh, and the bento box is quite literally filled to the brim with delicious pickles, salad, and rice as well. The owner is really nice, and they are incredibly polite and sweet. Definitely worth it. I hope they continue to do well!“

“3.5 stars. When you sit down they ask you to turn off your cell phone! I thought that was pretty cool. I did the nigiri omakase and overall it's not bad. There wasn't a bad piece but there were enough pieces that I thought were just ok. I think the most interesting pieces were the smoked fish sushi. I've never had smoked fish sushi. They service is impeccable but overall, I honestly don't think I'd return. It's a lot for $200+/person and I honestly didn't feel it met that price tag.“
“Chef is from Osaka Japan, he made great shari (slightly sweeter side as compared to Tokyo edomae purist style), nonetheless it was good texture, temperature. Most of fish from Japan. Kinmedai was excellent. So was Aji from Osaka. Tuna is from Hokkaido, taste similar to Ohma tuna, but slightly difficult. Chef knows edomae style and textures of fish, either natural or farm raised. Hope he carries more like Awabi, akagai, kohada, and more hikarimono next time. It was pleasant sushi dining experience.“

“10/10 I love a good sushi spot ! This place is hands down one of my fav places to get sushi from it's not your typical sushi spot where they have regular fancy rolls. Someone's less is more and this is definitely one of those it is a very basic hand roll ( seaweed , rice and your choice of fish) but it is so FRESH and quality is there !“

“The staff is welcoming and helpful, making sure that we got our food in a timely manner. It's a lot busyier than the first time we came but that's a good thing to see! We ordered a new paramount roll and a hector, both were delicious! This place has quickly become our new go to sushi spot! Parking- plenty of parking in the front and side. Decor- cute, cozy, but also feels like you're in an outdoor shop in the best way possible.“

“We found this restaurant through Yelp and we were super happy that we did. The sashimi were fresh and perfectly prepared. They have most of the dishes that we usually liked on the menu and some more. There was a mantis shrimp sashimi special on their special menu which we never tried before. We have it a try and it was pleasant enough but we still preferred the live sweet shrimp. The monk fish liver was good but the texture was softer than the ones we had on the past. Our server was friendly and helpful. Overall, I give the dining experience a five star because we left happy and satisfied.“

“Came here with my friends after Sake2Me had closed down their waitlist, but honestly I don't regret it one bit. We had a great time here with their service and quality of fish! The AYCE Sushi price here is $42.99 for the regular menu options. I honestly think that's enough choices for that price. Food takes a bit to come out and comes out sporadically. The quality of the fish was enough to make it worth it. We gobbled up every round so quick! I have to come back here whenever I'm craving good sushi in LB.“

“The food was very good and the price was extremely cheap for a solo diner. The BOGO 50% on premium rolls lets you get 2 rolls for under $25! The service was also very polite and the inside was clean and decorated nicely. Definitely coming back next time I'm in LA.“

“I'm not sure I should say anything but so far sushi Gen is my top sushi place in LA. Chef knows what he's doing and is very accommodating and polite to all my custom requests. Def feels like a hole in the wall but there were about 20-30 people waiting when I got there at 6. The tuna belly and salon belly are some of the freshest and fattiest we've ever had. Parking attendants were rude accepting card before 6 but not accepting it after 6 and only took cash. He said if you don't have cash buy me pastries and I'll let you in -_- ok Bring $6 cash next time, lesson learned“

“This place has the best Unagi in town in my opinion. It’s deserves a Michelin star. This chef is very talented - I’m surprised this place doesn’t have a line out the door.*The lighting is a bit bright for my taste but matches the modern interior/design. I wish it had more of a traditional low lighting feeling.“

“I’ve been to Japan four times in the last five years. I have friends who live in Kyoto and they take me to their favorite sushi spots. They also tell me where to go in Tokyo, where they spend a lot of their time.I never had sushi as good in Japan as I did last night in Gardena. I’m not kidding. The chef is very dedicated. He considers the entire experience from start to finish. So do a lot of other chefs at great Omakase spots in LA.What is different about Sonagi is that the chef is very into choosing his seafood based on the season. I’m not going to spend time going across each dish but you’re not going to get the typical fish here. I’m pretty sure that if the chef thinks some seafood item is seasonally better than Otoro, that’s what’s gonna get served.I’ve never had rice like the rice served in that small bowl. Crispy and perfect. The soup and the desserts were also incredible. They have two seatings, which I’ve seen in a few other places. Everyone at the sushi bar is served each dish at pretty much exactly the same time. This lends itself to meeting people at the bar. It’s almost like a get together at the chef’s home. One other nice touch: Before leaving, guests are presented with a fine stationary printout of each dish and its sourcing.Special place!“

“Best sushi in LA! Everything melted in your mouth! The fish is fresh, the price is affordable, and the service is great! It looks like a hole in the wall - but wow :)) We eat there once a week and love it! Drove all the way from Studio City to have dinner there - 2 hours each way in traffic - so that's obviously what it says :)) Haha Just love it!“

“This restaurant is affiliated with several sushi restaurants in Los Angeles and Westwood. It is located on the 2F of the H Mart Madong Plaza, and they validate parking. It has only been open for a month, and it appears to be building up a following. Madong Plaza is also the home to several restaurants, Daiso Japan, Cosmetic World, Paris Baguette. It would be worth your while to enjoy a meal at California Rock N Sushi and do you shopping. The pictures don't do justice to the presentation and quality of the seafood they serve here. I have eaten sushi in Japan, Seattle, and Hawaii. The freshness of their seafood and presentation are unique and unmatched. The sushi chefs are artists, who are clearly experienced and can create works of art. They carry an extensive menu of hand rolls, cut rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and specialties. We had the Red Dragon and Lemon Rolls cut style, chirashi bowl, teppanyaki, and ama ebi. (If they have ama ebi on the menu, do not hesitate to order it.) From seating to the end of our meal, service was top notch. Although this restaurant is located in Koreatown, sushi is universal. I highly recommend that you take the time to visit this restaurant and enjoy your meal here. I would rate this 6 stars if Yelp allowed me to.“

“Service excellent. Ambiance very geared toward focusing on the food. Overall a great experience with a high level of quality. Our highlight unexpectedly was the Hokkaido sardines. My SO and I literally stopped and stared at each other mid-chew, astonished at how good it was. Initially they thought something was wrong after seeing us freeze, but they then realized we were just stunned from how good the dishes were.“

“Best bang for your buck Sushi in LA! Newly opened- what the staff may lack in experience they make up for with genuine and friendly attitude. Is this the best sushi I’ve ever had? No, of course not! “want to start off by saying that this place is definitely timeless and i understand why it is one of the first ever sushi places in LA. The prices are unbelievable and i went with 2 other friends and ended up ordering a lot of food. The thing with sushi it’s hard to get full usually, but here the sushi that would be 2-3x the price is affordable and delicious. The atmosphere is great and authentic and your surroundings are pleasant and vibrant. Lots of people speaking japanese to the sushi chef and made the experience at the bar feel fun. i wish i got more pictures but we were starving but we wanted to try a little bit of everything. This place is great for family and friends and even a date at the bar for a fun time. make sure to on off hours or make a reservation if you can cause it can get packed in there. Overall it’s worth a drive to the K town area and get full.“

“I always wanted to try Omakase and was in LA for the day. I had the lunch special and it was unbelievable. I have been eating sushi since the early 90s and this was by far, the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend trying this place.“

“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“

“The service is really good. The cooking time is a little exceeded in time but it is because they actually cook real food there. The teriyaki bowl was so delicious, definitely recommended would also recommend the shrimp tempura as a side dish. The only downside is the soda station because it is out of order. so not too many options to choose from when it comes to having a drink …… its still a 5 star highly recommended!!!!!!!!“

“The ramen was a good size. I wish there was a combo of ramen (smaller portion) and a side. If you ate the ramen by yourself you would be too full to eat anything else. I liked that they had happy hour add on 's and that they torched the pork before serving!“

“The fish is fresh. There are plenty of creative rolls to pick from. The staff are prompt. The sake list works (enough variety and not too expensive). My only complaint is the dining room was warm (too warm). Not a big deal, but the only "note" for improvement.“

“Overall, I have really enjoyed the sushis's they have to offer. They taste fresh. I like that the restaurant has dim lighting, it makes your experience feel more secluded. I would give this place five stars but I've been there more than once and the service can be a hit or miss. The staff is friendly but sometimes you do have to call staff over for assistance and we did have to correct our order once. Don't let this discourage you though and head over and try their sushi. I definitely appreciate this restaurant for being one of the few places where you can get sushi near Huntington Park / South LA.“
