“First time visiting and we had the omakase. The staff welcomed us like they have known us for years as soon as we walked in. The service throughout the omakase was amazing and the sushi was the best weve had since visiting Japan! Toshisan is passionate and friendly. Cant wait to go back asap! I wish I could keep Toshi Sushi to myself and not tell anyone about it, but they deserve to be successful so I chose to write this review. We are incredibly lucky to have sushi of this quality, at s reasonable price, and in Gardena no less. If you're reading this, dont think about it any longer and just go.“

“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“

“Sushi Island is a great place to eat at! Most of the time, I order takeout and I usually get the same thing every time. I order a combination plate with Japanese style meatballs and sesame chicken. The meal comes with rice, salad and miso soup on the side. The food is delicious and the people who work there are always nice and helpful! I love coming here and will continue to do so. I definitely recommend eating here if you haven't tried it yet. :-)“

“A small family run izakaya tucked into the far end corner of a strip of restaurants. Easy to overlook if one drives by too quickly. Run by an older couple, it has a very cosy atmosphere with authentic izakaya style tapas. The seabream and kohada was very fresh the day we went, the tuna was prepped well. The sashimi was properly cut and everything was exquisitely prepared by the owner chef.“

“I randomly stopped in here to grab some take out. They were only going to be open for another 20 mins. They greeted me with smiles even though they were about to close. While waiting for my take out I noticed just how vibrant the environment was. And it all centered on the two main chefs at the front that night they were very energetic and full of laughs and smiles with the other customers. I will definitely try to come here more if my work schedule lets me.“

“Old school nostalgia in a box. Take out and cash only, phone orders preferred. Lucky i went on a weekday on my last trip to Gardena and ordered up a 10 piece sushi box with the popular items walking up, the lady at the counter handpicked them for me ?No joke, this family owned business has been around since 1962. The California roll is straight bussin. Fresh avos and real shrimp used. Dunno how much longer theyll be around but im happy i got to eat here again 5 stars?Parking: Parking on street or in the back of the building.“

“most people would probably label No. 1 Chef as a hole in the wall but I would rather label them as a hidden gem ?. Been eating here for about 5 years now and it’s still exquisite every single time. I really enjoy the authenticity and proper quality of their dishes. Thank you No. 1 Chef for always keeping your food fresh and delicious.“
“Stopped in after dinner at Sushi Bei. The place have been upgraded a bit since the last ownership. Way less dive feeling (but the old way was great too!).We just had a couple drinks and didn’t sing. The atmosphere was great! A very fun party and people were having a great time.They have many premium liquors and several mezcals (my fave). Looks like they no longer have the private room in the back.I would go back and would recommend!“

“Found this place on the fly and was glad we ran into it. All around excellent sushi spot! The chefs here love what they do and put the art into the chef's choice. Sit at the bar if you enjoy a personalized sushi experience with sake recommendations and off menu items. We were given extra for being first timers. The quality of the fish is fresh and nicely portioned. Overall, place is clean with good service, music, and background media. Will definitely be coming back!“

“This is literally the best place to get sushi ever, I have been coming here with my mom for the last 5-6 years. Whenever we feel like getting sushi, we always either come here or order from here. I have probably tried everything on the menu at least once because we always try to order something different each time. The rolls and the ramen are amazing. I have never had any problems with anyone or anything at this restaurant.“

“Great place to kick back and drink beers or wine with friends. More of a drinking place then a restaurant in my opinion. Great food but a little dissapointed on the sushi. It was Ok.... but some of the ingredients were not fresh and tasted a little bit old. But it was good and satisfactory tho. Will come back and try other stuff.“

“I’ve been to Japan four times in the last five years. I have friends who live in Kyoto and they take me to their favorite sushi spots. They also tell me where to go in Tokyo, where they spend a lot of their time.I never had sushi as good in Japan as I did last night in Gardena. I’m not kidding.The chef is very dedicated. He considers the entire experience from start to finish. So do a lot of other chefs at great Omakase spots in LA.What is different about Sonagi is that the chef is very into choosing his seafood based on the season. I’m not going to spend time going across each dish but you’re not going to get the typical fish here. I’m pretty sure that if the chef thinks some seafood item is seasonally better than Otoro, that’s what’s gonna get served.I’ve never had rice like the rice served in that small bowl. Crispy and perfect. The soup and the desserts were also incredible.They have two seatings, which I’ve seen in a few other places. Everyone at the sushi bar is served each dish at pretty much exactly the same time. This lends itself to meeting people at the bar. It’s almost like a get together at the chef’s home.One other nice touch: Before leaving, guests are presented with a fine stationary printout of each dish and its sourcing.Special place!“
