The New Schnitzel House 1085 NE 79th St, Miami German • $$

“My family went for Sunday Brunch. Started with their perfect pretzel, then their appetizer spread which had a beautifully smoked salmon and crispy latkes. Followed by a chicken schnitzel that was a top 3 for us. Lastly we completed the meal with a sweet potato pancake and French onion burger. We paired that all with a German sav blanc. We were really impressed with the quality of the food. So comforting but definitely executed well. Prices are fair and we left absolutely stuffed. Perfect spot for brunch. Decor was cool and service was attentive and friendly. They also had some nice music playing. We left wondering when we’ll return.Kid-friendliness: Staff was nice and with the booths and relaxed atmosphere. Not too stimulating. Also no kid can refuse a chicken schnitzel.”

“My husband has always wanted to eat at Carbone in NYC, but the waitlist is so long. We were happy to score at 5:30pm reservation while visiting Miami. There is both indoor and outdoor dining. The vibe is that of old NY Italian. We were seated and our server immediately introduced herself. She took our drink order and the fresh bread, fennel and cauliflower were brought out to the table. For an appetizer we ordered the prosciutto and mozzarella. The mozzarella was so fresh it was still warm! It was so good!!! The prosciutto was sliced perfectly and tasted amazing. We shared the lobster ravioli. The ravioli was 99% lobster and stuffed. It was amazing. The sauce was creamy yet light. For our entree we ordered the shrimp scampi that was priced per piece. These shrimp were gigantic! We each had 2 shrimp and it was plenty. We were so full we decided not to have dessert but our server brought out some Italian cookies with a candle for my husbands birthday. This meal is definitely in our top 10!”

“Atmosphere 8.5/10Pretty cool, dark atmosphere - great for a late night cocktail. Best spots are around the bar. A lot of tasteful design elements and details (animals and history). Upscale - stylishDrinks 8.5/10Substantial cocktail menu for every taste. “Very strong baby” is a signature Negroni - was good. Fino Martini however was a bit boring. One of the coolest coasters i have seen - super stylish and high quality. Custom glasses for every drink.Service 8.5/10We had to wait 20-30min for a seat at the bar on a Fr night. The bartender team is cool and friendly. Water served immediately. Would recommend to focus on drinks instead of food, here.20% automatic gratuity, is not my favorite feature, but for this place appropriate.”

It's definitely a great place to have a few drinks and a good conversation BUT the food isn't great. They also have a "last call for cocktails" (first time in my life I heard that) so, you end up with one hour to go before they close and you can't keep drinking what you wanted so it's a 4 out of 5 for me and I'm being generous.”

“We had a fantastic experience here. The food from start to finish was spectacular in taste and presentation. They are happy to accommodate vegetarians, but they will not be able to help you vegans out. This restaurant deserves its Michelin star without a doubt. I find the negative reviews about food poisoning hard to believe when you account for the rigorous demands of maintaining a Michelin rating. However, anything can happen. The drinks were also amazing! Get the refreshing cocktail with mezcal. It is essentially a more fresh version of a caipirinha with a hint of mezcal smokiness.Vegetarian options: The vegetarian meal is not on the menu, but they will tell you all about it if you ask.”

Avocado toast was the best! Perfect combinations. The flavored lattes and coffee are awesome. Not sure how they make their flavors, but taste so real and not artificial. Uchi 252 NW 25th St, Miami Japanese • $$$$

“7.9/10 Dined on 3/11/24 Originally hailing from Austin, Uchi's Miami outpost serves non-traditional Japanese cuisine in a sleek and upscale environment. Uchi kind of feels like what Nobu was 15 years ago - an innovative twist on Japanese food. At Uchi, however, you won't find seemingly ubiquitous spicy mayo or rock shrimp tempura. We went for happy hour and sampled nearly all of the hot and cold dishes offered. Many were well conceptualized and delicious, but some fell a bit flat. Even happy hour was a four dollar sign affair, so we can only imagine the sticker shock of a full fledged dinner. Overall, Uchi was a very solid meal although the flavors did not soar quite as high as the price tag. See our full review on Instagram @twogaysthreetakes ________________________________ Oysters beet mignonette, orange Sake Tartare atlantic salmon, apple, nori chip Paloma Crudo suzuki, mescal zu, finger lime Walu Walu oak grilled escolar, candied citrus, yuzupon Crispy Rice gyutoro, broccoli, salsa macha, shallot Wagyu Gyoza chili crisp, mango chutney Spring Rolls duck confit, braised cabbage, spicy ponzu Karaage chicken thigh, sweet chili, seasonal pickles Fried Milk vanilla custard, salted fudge, toasted blondie ________________________________ Overall, I enjoyed our meal at Uchi. There were some dishes that were absolutely delicious - the paloma crudo, for example, which featured ultra-fresh sea bass in a light and smoky sauce. The walu walu was similarly excellent and glazed with sticky sweet candied citrus. The charred short rib served over a bed of crispy rice with flavorful salsa matcha was a treat. The wagyu gyoza were juicy and surprisingly paired well with the mango chutney. Not every dish stood out though. The spring rolls with duck confit were minuscule and lackluster for the price and the sauce was far too thin to cling to the rolls. The chicken karaage was inconsistent - some pieces were crisp while others lacked breading and felt soggy. The fried milk dessert was good, but its arrival with the check was tacky and soured the end of an otherwise pleasant meal. -TWP ________________________________ Uchi happy hour is basically just bougie girl dinner. We got half off a bottle of sparkling rosé and a series of small bites that ranged a bit in their quality, but on average were well-conceptualized and featured top notch ingredients. The raw seafood stood out for being extremely fresh and were often paired with an interesting citrus-forward sauce. The crispy rice and gyutoro was also very tasty and well-executed and felt like the best value on the menu. Some other items, notably the spring rolls with duck confit, felt really skimpy for their price and didn't wow us in any particular way. Overall, Uchi offers creative dishes and excellent ingredients, but lacks the value and consistency of our highest-rated restaurants. -JB”

I almost always use the window, but it also has space to sit inside and outside. The attention has been quite good. Sometimes when it is a busy time it can take a while because it is quite busy. Parking is a little difficult sometimes, because there is not much space. But you can park on the street and walk here.”

“I normally shy away from vegan only spots-THIS PLACE PUTS MY HOPE IN TASTY VEGAN FOOD!! I picked up my bestie and told her that I wanted to try this place. Her car was in the shop so she kinda had no choice. When we arrived there wasn't anyone seated-hmmmm, did I mess up? We dove right in. We ordered the croqueta platter, 2 "ham" and one chickpea. And also the yucitas with the garlic cilantro sauce. She also asked for a cafe con "leche". I opted for a Materva-cuz...I haven't had one in years. For our mains she ordered a cuban sandwich which was made with jackfruit (sangwich?) and I chose the piccadillo bowl. I have to be honest-I was here on faith!. All of our food arrived quickly-we utilized the qr codes on the outdoor table. I expected the "ham" croqueta to outshine the chickpea one-nope! I loved the chickpea one. The cafe con "leche" was nice and smooth. I tried her cuban sandwich and it was good-not my thing, tasty, just not for me. The cilantro sauce was DELICIOUS!! We dipped the yucaitas, the sandwich, our fingers...so good. The star of the day though was the picadillo bowl. WOW!!! I opted for a bed of rice also with the cilantro sauce. Given the side options I chose sweet plantains-of course!!! Bestie and I were in vegan food heaven. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. I told our server, Mario (cute as can be) that we will be back. He was so polite and attentive. We both highly recommend!”

Living in brickell I have accepted that most places focus on presentation of the food rather than the quality. Here all three meals were highly rated. The star for me was the hueco estralledos. He always ensured our waters were filled and regularly checked in on us at a frequency that was not annoying. The food was way above what I expected. Living in brickell I have accepted that most places focus on presentation of the food rather than the quality. Here all three meals were highly rated. The star for me was the hueco estralledos. The chicken and waffles were very filling for my companions and they both said it tasted homemade. Highly recommend this place!Vegetarian options: Vegetarian here. “During our visit to Kendall, we decided to explore the Fonda Sabaneta Colombian restaurant, enticed by its Instagram promotions. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to find a charming mom and pop eatery brimming with activity. Despite the initial 30-minute wait estimated by the warm and friendly hostess, our patience paid off as a few patrons departed, allowing us to be seated within minutes. The restaurant's cleanliness was immediately apparent, and its dining area featured a prominent bar at its center, offering solo diners and couples a convenient option. The décor exudes a distinct Colombian ambiance, serving as a delightful reminder of the upcoming culinary journey. Impressively, the cleanliness extended to the restroom facilities—a reassuring sign of attention to detail. Our gastronomic journey began with a round of Águila Colombian beer, setting the stage for the hearty main courses. Following the advice about generous portions, we dived straight into the Bandeja Paisa and the Carne Asada platter, both of which tantalized our taste buds with their incredible flavors. Our sweet tooth was indulged by the Postre de Nata, a tropical Colombian dessert that proved to be a delectable treat. The staff's friendliness and warm welcome enhanced our dining experience, contributing to a great meal and an enjoyable time. We eagerly anticipate returning to Fonda Sabaneta to savor more of their authentic Colombian cuisine and immerse ourselves in the welcoming atmosphere.”

Uchi

-JB”

“Heard many good things before trying it out for the first time.First impression of the restaurant is odd because windows had like sort of newspaper on their windows; normally when you see that it's either they're not open yet or they've totally closed but we did made a reservation 30 mins prior arriving so it must be open!Upon entering the restaurant, my second impression was like oh no we have a 6 month old baby with us and there's only high chair tables then out of the blue host opens up a shelf door-AMAZING! Don't be put off by the graffitied little building. I believe it was formally a gas station. An eclectic location with amazing food, cozy decor and ambience. You can sit inside surrounded by walls of books (typical movie style, Harry Potter sort of thing) and antique tables that were once personal desks. Nothing matches but everything looks and feels like being in a cozy private library with soft lights. Live music (my friends 6 month baby was loving it!). You can sit outside and enjoy the cool evenings; they have a Dj.Food and wine is exceptional! We had to try their most talked baked empanadas; so we did. (1) Four Cheeses with Smoked Bacon (it was okay but not my favorite), (1) "Bunbury" Prosciutto-Mushroom-Brie (my favorite!), (1) Hand Cut Beef with Chimichurri (delicious but for being an Argentine restaurant; your chimichurri sucks - I would ve expected a little better), (1) Braised Lamb - touch of Mozzarella (delicious), Shrimp Balls (amazing combination of flavours), Bunbury Burger Bites (asked for medium cooked and waiter brought extremely well done even though we mentioned it twice - he didn't care less at all), and Grilled Vacío (this time around he did bring it medium cooked - thank God!).All in all, flavorful and addicting! The portion is on the small side but it's perfect if you are indulging in their many other delicious bites and empanadas. Oh the empanadas are to die for! They have a vast selection of great wines. On the walls, I definitely spotted 3 of my favorite wines which I tried in my trip to Buenos Aires and La Patagonia.Highly recommended! But service was slacking a little!Vegetarian options: Some itemsDietary restrictions: Upon request if availableParking: Good luck it’s Downtown MiamiKid-friendliness: If your child isn’t a picky eater!”

“Our Papa’s Kitchen did two things so RIGHT that I didn’t realize it was missing from so many other places until I came here. I was never too big on lemon pepper seasoning, I usually prefer other spices on my chicken wings. But when my niece offered me to try hers, I was blown away! Delicious! (That’s the first thing) I went right over there! Then, as I picked up my food and was leaving, not only did the cashier thank me with genuine gratitude (so much that I turned to look at her and smile) BUT then I heard a “Thank You!” shouted from back in the kitchen. Wow! These people don’t even know me; they must really appreciate their customers. So unexpected, yet so impressive! Great food and great customer service don’t seem to show up at the same time these days. But that day, in that place, that’s what I got! So worth it!!”

“I was already in the place this weekend and according to my criteria: The food is 100-100, the attention is 100-150, sufficient availability of parking, the prices are quite affordable, but what I do think should improve is the DJ's repertoire. . I am one of those who believes that when a DJ does not make visitors get up from their chairs, his repertoire does not have sufficient quality. The artist who was (Kate Rozo) spectacular, a nice show and very professional”

We started off with unbelievable appetizers. not only is the past excellent, but their fish was extremely fresh. The penny à la vodka was probably the best they ever had this service. Well they were busy but the Wait staff were apologetic. They knew the menu very well and made some great suggestions. Ambience was laid-back. Everyone seems to be enjoying their food. If there was one thing to say is that the kitchen needs some help with expediting the food. All in all is still worth going to see and enjoying the experience, by the way, they're Barada and tomatoes is a must have. Until next time bon appétit”

Zuri Restaurant 73 NW 26th St, Miami Moroccan • $$$

“Finding a great meal past 9 PM on a Sunday can be quite a challenge, however, Zuri was the gem I was looking for. The decor/ ambiance was multifaceted. The main dining area is more formal, yet intimate, then there’s 2 separate parts to what I’d describe as the “patio”. One part of the patio gives more of an outdoor vibe while the other part is a indoor patio, if that makes sense. Either way, it’s giving Moroccan. They even offer authentic teas(mint tea was fire) and hookah. The atmosphere was nice, calm and the music was at a decent level that allowed people to talk and not yell across the table at each other. The server was extremely pleasant, personable, knowledgeable and made great suggestions based on my dietary needs. I started with the muhammara and it was soooooo good! I started using it as dip for everything at the table. For my main course, I had the fish tagine which was made with grouper that day(the fish selection changes depending on the day). I normally do not like grouper because it never takes on flavor well enough, however, Zuri made me into a believer. The fish was so flavorful, cooked at the perfect temperature and was accompanied by an incredible setup. They even serve the dishes in authentic Moroccan tagine dishes! What an incredible experience. I certainly recommend and will certainly return.”

Dos Croquetas 1555 SW 8th St, Miami Cuban • $

“If you're a fan of croquetas such as myself, "Dos Croquetas" is absolutely a must-try when visiting Miami. Some might ask "what exactly is a croqueta?". In simple terms, they are about the same size of a mozzarella stick, deep fried and usually filled with béchamel sauce, mashed potatoes, cheese, and meat. In fact, the options are endless with thousands of customizable creations. They are a very popular side/appetizer in the Latin culture and are a great quick snack to eat on the go. Located directly on 8th St (Calle Ocho) in between SW 15th & 16th Ave. in the heart of the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, this place has been dishing out delicious croquetas since early-2024. I came here on a whim (during the afternoon of Sunday 3/17/2024 at 1:30pm) as I was craving a small bite and this place absolutely delivered. As far as the exterior of the building, it was quite easy to find due to the colorful array of forest green with a splash of pink and yellow on the awning. The interior brings that same colorful artwork which truly give this place a Miami vibe. Their menu offers not only Cuban craft croquetas (in 10 different flavors) but also sandwiches, sides, breakfast (served until 4pm), and Dulce dessert bites. They also carry craft shakes to cool you off on the sweltering hot & muggy Florida days. Since this was my first time trying their food and didn't want to go too overboard before dinner, I ordered just (1) of the "305". This croqueta had Cuban-styled picadillo , sweet plantains, and queso blanco with their signature dale sauce. Total price, only $2.20 before tax. Service was quick and my snack was ready in just a couple minutes. As far as the taste, this absolutely hit the spot for me. Crunchy on the outside while warm, cheezy, and savory on the inside, this was absolutely delicious and actually tasted like nothing I've ever tried before. They offer so many other delectable croquetas including "Medianoche" (pork, ham, & swiss), "Mexican Street Corn", "Creamy Spinach", and much more. They have very respectable hours being opened Sunday-Thursday from 10am-10pm and Friday-Saturday from 10am-12am. With the exceptional service, prime location, great atmosphere, and reasonable prices, I am giving the Little Havana "Dos Croquetas" a perfect five stars.”
